....or Eric Stoltz
We already had Roger Moore and his quiche, no need for any more ;-)
Anyway, people I know getting bored of me wittering on so thought I'd venture on here to see what the opinion was among fans with regards potential new Bond actor. Particularly in light of media stories about Tom Hiddlestone, Aidan Turner and now James Norton.
In my opinion (for what it's worth) James Norton too young and too obviously middle class looking. Tom Hiddlestone too rangy and lacking in latent threat. Aidan Turner too young and too swarthy.
So what's the general consensus that Fassbender would be good? It's possibly a reductive idea of Bond but Fassbender gives me the authentic impression of a guy who can pull off an unsettling stare, spend a few hours drinking, then have a fight with a guy he's just met before stealing his girlfriend for the night.
That's what forums are for ....to piss people off.
But I must stress that my first choice is Daniel Craig. If only he could do just one more, hopefully go out on a high. Only Lazenby and Dalton went out on a high.
Welcome to Mi6! I like that first post, BTW.
I personally feel that NONE the often mentioned candidates: Hiddleston, Aidan Turner, the new one Norton, etc etc are quite James Bond , for pretty much the reasons you mentioned. Hiddleston....maybe I'd accept if he were actually cast. I might even be pleasantly surprised once the film came out. My first impression of him, though, makes me think he'd be better suited for Sherlock Holmes in a classic Peter Cushing style. As for the rest I do think they look far too young, even in their thirties to convince me they're actually James Bond. Aidan Turner, although he seems to be a popular choice on the forums, looks too much to me like he'd be hanging out with the guys on the HBO series Entourage, rather than walking in the famous 007 gunbarrel. But I haven't really seen him in anything to fairly judge.
Fassbender, on the other hand I think I could embrace as Bond. He's pushing forty...which Bond should be, and has a good style about him. If he were cast I'd probably be extremely happy it wasn't one of the others and optimistic about the series' future.
Ehhh...10 years after Craig first played Bond, we're still doing this?
Or after Moore before that?
Agreed. Norton had my attention as well, but he seems a bit too young. I prefer my Bonds seasoned.
Most likely whoever gets the role won't be someone we've been talking about. In '86 it came as a total surprise when Tim was cast. There was Pierce, of course, but I do remember Entertainment Tonight specifically announcing that Finlay Light had been cast in The Living Daylights. I actually believed it until Tim was announced that August.
If I'm honest I'm not really a fan of Craig doing traditional Bond. It just doesn't feel organic to me and feels incredibly forced. That being said SP is my least favourite Bond performance from him. He's far more believable and engaging when his performance isn't cracking obligatory quips or doing the "I have to smirk because I'm James Bond".
Timothy Dalton remains my favourite Bond but I felt he was far more visibly uncomfortable doing the traditional Bond stuff then Craig. That said I'd much rather have the Craig Bond from CR\QOS back and him playing to his strengths. They may as well have stuck with Brosnan if they wanted the flippancy.
I can't think of any current actor who strikes me as a Bond candidate. I think I'd quite like a complete surprise left field appointment like Mendes hinted at. Someone whom is absolutely not on the radar yet once cast you'd think 'ah of course, yes he'll make a great Bond'.
Yep. Craig excels when he has CR/QoS material to work with. The humour and overall characterisations is perfect and credible to his talents. It takes a special kind of actor to deliver the brutality, class, sophistication, humour and charm and for me, Connery mastered this and was/is the sole practitioner of such dynamic acting prowess in the role.
I think Dalton does a better job with traditional Bond than Craig does simply because Dalton didn't have to work with noticeably overt material that made being flippant stand out too much. TLD and LTK still had a Bond that was a connoisseur and had a degree of sophistication that's synonymous with the character and had Dalton pulling off a far more genuine believability being such a man when compared to Craig.
He'd be great, but Ben Whishaw hasn't quit yet.
I like Dalton and his films. He is a great actor. BUT....he lacks the star quality and presence that Craig has.
Everyone deserves love. Even Tom and Taylor. I think they will get married and have a baby before the release of Bond 25. Then I'll come back to quote this post B-)
So I agree, Hiddleston is probably the next Bond.
