    8 confirmed dead now.

Police found a 9th body one kilometer from the shopping mall, they are investigating now if this is another vicitm or the gunman who might have killed himself.

it isn't confirmed either that there were 3 shooters.
the media coverage is extremely confusing at the moment to be honest.
there were reports of different locations but these were proven false. so its just the shoping mall.

you have 6 causalties confirmed in total. in one shoping mall. does that sound like 3 guys with rifles to you? or rather one guy with a handgun?
the more i read about this, the less it sounds like a terrorist attack. not that it matters much at the moment.
also i belive if it were really 3 guys, they would have caught at least one by now

They seem quite keen on the theory that it's far right mentalists as apparently today is the 5 year anniversary of the Breivik attacks but frankly actual facts are very thin on the ground at present.

If they are still on the loose like the Kouachi brothers other attacks must be impending as now they are 'blown' they will want to take down as many people as they can before the police get them.

    Sounds a bit disappointed, no?

Disappointed that there is no solid news yet just speculation? Yeah gutted.

Shouldn't you get back to blaming the British for all the world's ills and editing your first post a few more times until it finally makes some sort of sense Erica?

I aim to please. Not you, evidently. You know, I once knew a gal (or was she?) calling herself Erica. You and her use the same perfume. Just sayin.

Don't know what you're talking about.

    Alan-Partridge-Reasons-07-16x9-1.jpg

Clearly you have some rather troubling issues with a girl called Erica but I hardly think this is the thread in which to explore them.

I shan't. Unless I catch this stink again, then I can't promise you anything. Perhaps a mouthwash would help.

Is there now some kind of proof for 'them' being 'keen on far right mentalists'? I haven't heard about that anywhere else but here. Sounds like BS to me.

There's no proof for anything at present just theories. They're just basing it on the fact that today is the 5th anniversary of the Norway attacks.

Try watching the news instead of crying into your pillow about how Erica shagged your best mate. If you use this thread as your primary news outlet it's no wonder you're, as Le Chiffre might say, a little confused.

CNN just reported a witness claiming she heard one of the attackers screaming "Allahu Akbar" in the washroom of the McDonalds before mowing down children with a gun. I did not hear this on the BBC yet though.

EDIT: There are also conflicting reports of a gunman insulting foreigners and Turks.

    Oh dear.

I've got nothing more to say as you are clearly rather troubled as this frothing little rant shows:

'Oh my.......so sorry, Erica, I didn't know it was really you! OK, so I could have guessed no two people on this planet would use the same nasty stink of crazy xenophobia and Merkel-hate as remedy for their inferiority complexes. But you can't blame me for hinting that you are here, of all places. How could I have known that? After all the nasty things you had to say about "sixbook" and how you felt the mods here are all bossy egomaniacs? Whatever, hope you can forgive me for hinting to Brian you are also here, seeing how you are now so particularly chummy. Another surprise after I read how ugly you've been to the guy only a little while ago. Glad to see you two are so chummy now. Have a lovely day, Erica. And you should really stop gnashing your teeth, that's very unbecoming when one already has a nasty face to begin with. ;)'

Does a well man post this as his profile? Just click on @Campbell2's name above to read it for yourself folks (but quick before he changes it and blames me, Erica, for slandering him).

Definitely a 'before turning the gun on himself' headline in waiting.

Nonetheless apologies in allowing myself to be drawn into this bear baiting and derailing the thread.

It would appear that the the way ISIS uses the internet may be a contributory factor in the radicalisation of this new wave of 'lone wolf attackers'. That the group has a slick media operation of its own & can produce high quality propaganda videos aimed not only at glorifying their existence but recruiting people to their cause. Not being overly familiar with computer matters I feel it should not be beyond the realms of possibility to deny ISIS this platform - to stop them from being able to broadcast directly to those people who wish - for whatever reason - to access this material.

Why so shy, Ambler? Normally you're not the squeamish kind (when you're not pulling a diva act), you even take us on the odd drinking bout with you when it serves the purpose of derailing a thread.

    But back on topic.
Why don't you enlighten us as to how exactly Angela Merkel's 'hubris' added to this act? You would certainly know, just a page ago you were fairly sure about it (and I definitely detected some flapping noises when you wrote that.) Would you be terribly affronted if I called that BS?

Also I still wonder who was 'keen' on giving this a far right spin. Much as I look, I only found one guy keen on something. You. Did I miss something there?

Waiting eagerly for your no doubt erudite answers.

Did somebody shout "Scheiss Auslander"? Did somebody shout "Allahu Akbar"? These seem in contradiction to one another, but both were reported along the way in yesterday's mayhem. Not sure which is true.

Merkel's immigration stance is bound to play into fears of foreigners in Germany. Any country which receives several immigrants from one area, at a time when terrorist attacks are occurring in Europe, is bound to encounter hostilities from within. That's just common sense.

The anti‑immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has seen some recent gains. Hans-Georg Maassen, head of Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, has said that ISIL/Daesh has deliberately planted jihadists among the migrants flowing into Europe. My understanding is that Riaz Khan, the recent train attacker, lied on his asylum application about his identity and nationality.

What's scary about world affairs right now, is that we are probably going to have to lean heavily towards an Israel fortification type approach, just for self preservation. That's not my preference, but if lone wolf mass assassination sympathizer attacks continue like this, I don't really see an alternative, regrettably, to protect citizens.

The only other approach perhaps is to inflict a catastrophic blow to Daesh/ISIL on home turf, but sadly that will also most probably result in massive loss of innocent lives in that area, because they are so embedded into the population. It will inevitably lead to more hatred.

Moreover, what's the alternative for leadership in that area once they are terminated? There are absolutely no democratic institutions, and post-war 'nation building' has generally failed. Theological approaches tend to be the most able to survive. An alternative might be to come up with some approach to get the rich countries in the area to develop their own coordinated 'Marshall Plan', but I don't see that happening either. It's just one big destabilized screw up.

Ok congratulations this particular attack has very little to do with Angela as he's just turned out to be a common or garden mental case rather than a terrorist. I made the swift assumption (like 99.99% of people, even you my learned friend) that the script was the usual Islamic nutter gone off on one for Allah. I lost my money this time but at the terrorist casino if you keep betting on Islam you win a a lot more times than you lose. You want to go double or quits that the next terrorist atrocity is from Islamists? You put a fiver up I'll put up a fifty, winner takes all. Easy money.

As for Angela's hubris. This time she got away with it but anyone who thinks ISIS haven't taken advantage of the 'come one, come all' borders policy she instigated to send dozens of 'agents' in amongst the genuine refugees is naive in the extreme/a Jeremy Corbyn supporter (same thing really). Again only a matter of time before that bet comes up as well.

The BBC spent the evening desperately trying to avoid saying the 'I' word so this far right connection was a godsend for them.

You evidently did miss something. I understand that you don't consider me a reputable source for this but are you still getting the same whiff of BS since the Munich police have confirmed it

Isn't it the case that a large proportion of Islamist attacks are perpetrated by home-grown radicals? With the internet being such a hot bed of indoctrination, surely it's a little short sited to assume that closing the borders and alienating an entire race of people will solve anything? We're fighting an idea, it's not a physical army that can be stopped at the border or defeated in battle. I wish there was a simple answer, but I really think that vilifying the Muslim people is just going to further their disenfranchisement and breed radicalisation.

My best friend is a Muslim, and the utter shite he's had to put up with recently because of the colour of his skin is really depressing. I'm not making any excuses for terrorists or Islam itself, but is it any wonder that they feel such resentment against a society that treats them with contempt? We need to be building bridges, not putting up walls.

Really says a lot that you only chose to respond to that part of my post. And you're actually wrong; under British law, religious groups fall under protected identities within the Race Relations Act. So discrimination against a Muslim is, by definition, racism. Besides, for a lot of the Muslims that I've met, their religion is more a matter of identity than it is an actual doctrine to live by - like Britain's millions of Anglicans who have never set foot in a church.

Mendes, would you actually advocate discrimination against a person because of the religion they subscribe to?

Undoubtedly true. Pretty much all of them. So far.
With the internet being such a hot bed of indoctrination, surely it's a little short sited to assume that closing the borders and alienating an entire race of people will solve anything?

Isn't it equally short sighted to welcome in without question anybody from a country where this indoctrination and hatred is at its strongest?
I'm not making any excuses for terrorists or Islam itself, but is it any wonder that they feel such resentment against a society that treats them with contempt? We need to be building bridges, not putting up walls.

It's a very nice idea to build bridges. But why is the onus always on us to do that? People are free to practice their religion as they see fit, the law does not discriminate between Muslim and non Muslim, Tesco have an halal counter, the media shrinking fear at showing cartoons of the prophet, my local Subway has a poster saying it doesn't serve pork salami or bacon but turkey variations etc etc.

What other bridges do you suggest we build? Sharia law superceding the law of the land?

Go to a Muslim country and see how far you get asking for a special bacon counter in the supermarket or wearing a bikini on the beach. We have to have total respect for their culture but I just don't see that coming in the other direction. You only have to look at how many Muslims in this country after the Charlie Hebdo attacks were interviewed saying 'yes killing them was wrong but they really shouldn't have made fun of the prophet'.

I'm sorry for your friend and yes saying all Muslims are terrorists is as wrong as it is stupid. But equally stupid is denying that the terrorist threat we face is completely incidental to Islam.

I definitely agree that we are too timid when confronting the teachings of Islam. I think that simply responding to every attack with platitudes that "terrorism has no religion" obviously ignores the fact that terrorism usually does have an explicitly religious motivation, and as long as we ignore that then we're never going to be able to challenge the ideology head on. It's very easy for someone to say "you ain't no Muslim bruv", but the reality is that, as far as the Islamists themselves are concerned, they are as Muslim as they come.

However, I do understand the reluctance, particularly among those of us on the left, to direct fire at Islam as an abstract concept, because it's inevitably siezed upon as justification by every racist in the land, and it's people like my mate who suffer for it. I don't wish the justify the practices of Sharia states or the text in the Koran, but it is true that the overwhelming majority of Muslims in the West just want to get on with their lives in peace.

The truth is I don't know what we should do. It's clear that we have to do something to challenge the ideology that is poisoning the minds of young men across Europe. But I really believe that division and hatred just plays into the hands of the people who wish to cause us harm. If we turn away Muslim people who need our help simply because of their religion or where they come from, then they're going to look elsewhere for a sense of purpose.

You mentioned typing at a bus stop a few stops back!
Forgive, I did not know, that many of your ravings were created in such conditions Bravo!
Friend Ludovico posts from his lair in the dusty musts of Castle Dracula, others maybe steal time from work, but you I thought, were like most of us, feverishly pounding away on home desktop or laptop.
Me I pretty much wait till I get home to my trusty desktop. I don't even like typing on a lap top and I've given up trying to type on the cellphone when out and about, other than text messaging. Considering the vital nature of message board posting, the smart phone challenges and mobile limitations do not seem appropriate for the gravitas of the task at hand.
I can't imagine @graves or @BondJames hammer out their lengthy missives from anything other than sturdy stable locations...but you ripping out your patented rants and ravings from a bus-stop. That is awesome!
But I am not home much at the moment, going thru a demanding work phase, so I don't post much, but I wonder what is this bus-stop method you use that overcomes not being home.
Lap top? Tablet. Just wondering. Any particular brand or preferred keyboard?

Also what are you guys going on about re Erica Ambler. There is no way that you and the famous former member Erica Ambler, one of the giants of the old Mi6 days, who now posts else, are the same person.
I am confused. Ambler is a Bond Board God of yore. One of the smartest, sharpest guys you will ever "meet." You are no slouch yourself but you and Ambler are not the same person?
As for the terrorists. Yes I will weigh in. We are at war and under attack. So we have to fight back.
We need border security and we need an concerted intelligence effort.
The ground and air wars against ISIL forces are helpful but they don't address the domestic issues.
The terrorists are being whipped into action by web postings. From an intelligence perspective, and I'm sure M and Tanner would agree, the puppet masters and their web networks must be identified and destroyed
We are Bond fans. We know this. You got to take out the generals directing the attacks from afar. Its precision intelligence and espionage work.
The double O section need be mobilized once targets can be identified.
I am sure this work is going on now but it needs to be continued with conviction.

    Thank you, @Ludovico.

Now, let's talk about respecting everyone's opinion. I need to respect the opinion of a Jihadist that I am to be slain like a dog for being an "infidel" - or in my case even worse, an "antitheist" - because if I don't, and if I call Islam dangerous, retarded and an unpleasant tumour that has to be cut out immediately, I'm branded a bigot and in some cases sent to court where I might actually be punished for, indeed, bigotry and racial slur.

The Bible is no better. The Old Testament is one of the most horrible books ever written. Yet we condone its existence and publication because of its historical value. Tragically, many on this planet still read the Old Testament as a practical guide for how to behave in our modern society. So basically, they submit themselves to the violent, ignorant, misogynist and scientifically illiterate "wisdom" of - to quote Lawrence Krauss - "Iron Age peasants who thought the Sun revolved around the Earth". The Old Testament of the Christian Bible is, by the way, also the source of Islamic "truths". It's a profoundly inspiring list of rules and guidelines for, amongst other things,

    1) how to beat your wife to a pulp or stone her to death in case she was raped
    2) and for how to slaughter people of a different persuasion till the last one died

That first thing is silly enough to make any sane person realize he's dealing with a horrible remnant of the days when people chewed raw meat and threw the bones behind them. Sadly, in many Islamic countries, the practice of killing women like they are termites is considered good practice, defended by the law (!), even in 2016, which is a horrendous thing if you think about it past the headlines on CNN. However, the second part is even more interesting because the Old Testament, the very foundation of "modern" (notice please that I'm not sure that word is properly used in this context) Christianity and Islam, does a lousy job demanding respect for everyone's opinion. No, those who disagree with you should die. Most Bible belters will, of course, refrain from killing people; they only enjoy killing their own offspring by denying them proper medical treatments in case of severe illness because sticking needles in your body, receiving other people's blood and swallowing compounds obtained through genetically manipulated organisms, will send them straight to hell. (Indeed, it's better to send a 6 year old child who's never had a chance to grow up and think for itself outside the barbaric clutches of its stubborn parents, to heaven, than it is to have it properly cured, allow it to live a long and fruitful and hopefully secular life, and then join the rest of us in hell, where we enjoy hot chilli peppers on a daily basis, have demonic sex with devilish babes and are kept warm, even during those cold winter nights, by the fires of doom.)

Islam, however, does condone and in some cases even endorse killing people whose opinion it clearly doesn't respect. Why then am I so careful about which words to use in class, lest I be branded a racist for saying anything at all that goes against the insanities of Islamic doctrine? Because in this PC society, we have grown so weak that we rather behave like minions under the delusion of still being safe and in charge, than to be faced with another round of hippy protests or be called a racist by Ben Affleck because you warn people that more terrorist attacks will follow as a consequence of things not being properly handled. Being accused of racism happens everyday. I'm a "racist" because I don't think embassies should be burned down over some cartoons. I'm a "racist" because I expect my students to sit in class, Ramadan or not. I'm a 'racist' because I know that supreme deities don't exist and if they did, I wouldn't want to live in a universe controlled by them. I'm a "racist" because... I have an opinion. And since it's not respecting theirs, it's a malicious opinion in some way, to be punished by death or, at the very least, by a legal accusation of bigotry... and yes, there are some judges who will take this seriously believe it or not.

Let's be honest, some. opinions. are. wrong. Some opinions needn't be respected. Those who preach intolerance, are the first to cry when they are met with that very thing, intolerance. Am I the pot or the kettle? I don't care. I know one thing though. I believe in the freedom of the mind FROM THE DELUSION OF A UNIVERSAL CREATOR WHO TELLS ONE GROUP OF MORONS TO GO AND KILL THE REST OF US.

Ah well, Christians had their crusades and the Church got away with it. Now certain Muslims have their crusades. Who will be next? The Scientologists? I'd love to see that. Tom Cruise and John Travolta leading the war against the very medical treatments that might have cured J - okay, that would be too low even by my standards.

Post of the year mate. I'm with you all the way.

About time the sane stood up and said 'you're all mental' instead of pussyfooting around trying not to offend these morons.

At some point in history people had to let go the concept of a flat earth as being inherently ridiculous despite all their ancestors believing steadfastly in it. We are at that point now with religion. Don't be scared of turning your back on what your parents indoctrinated you with because they themselves had been indoctrinated as had their parents before them and so on.

It's time to finally make the break and we atheists need to stop being so shy and start calling out people as idiots for believing this shockingly written drivel (the bible is so riddled with holes and inconsistencies P&W might have written it FFS).

Everyone has a right to their beliefs and that shouldnt change. What should change is that you openly get ridiculed if you admit to believing in a magic being up in the sky who created everything and will look after you when you die - because dying really sucks doesn't it? So it's nice to delude ourselves that there's a heaven? Grow the fuck up and stop behaving like a toddler. When you're dead you're dead and that's it. What makes people so arrogant to think there's something special about us humans that makes us different to a chicken that has its neck wrung and ends up in an ASDA value chicken and leek pie or a hedgehog that gets splattered across the A47 from Swaffham to Norwich? We're made of the same bone, offal and gristle and we end up just the same as your pet hamster did when you buried it in the ground in 1987. So stop wasting your time with praying and get on with the fleeting moments of existence that you have been lucky enough to have been granted.

You know how we all laugh at those Channel 5 documentaries about people who have sex with their car or who collect milk bottle tops in their garage or who are scared of jelly? Well that's what religion should become - just an amusing freak show (like it isn't already?) for a bit of mindless entertainment on a Thursday evening while you are waiting for the news at 10.

Everywhere you look the world is currently dying from the cancer of religion and you know what they say - laughter is the best medicine.

Obviously I'm not saying an absence of religion would cure all the problems in the world but it would be one hell of a base to start from.

Why don't you enlighten us as to how exactly Angela Merkel's 'hubris' added to this act? You would certainly know, just a page ago you were fairly sure about it (and I definitely detected some flapping noises when you wrote that.) Would you be terribly affronted if I called that BS?

With the internet being such a hot bed of indoctrination, surely it's a little short sited to assume that closing the borders and alienating an entire race of people will solve anything?

    Muslims aren't a race.
You raise an interesting point. You cannot change your race. You can change your beliefs. It's a choice.

The genius of Islam. It is a race, a culture, a religion... It is infinitely malleable when it needs to be. The sooner people start treating it as a fucking joke (along with all other ideologies) the better. Saying, 'I have a mate who's a Muslim and it's really hard for him' is besides the point. We live in the 21st century. If you believe in fairy stories you have to accept that people will treat you with justifiable contempt.
