Eva Green played her brilliantly i feel. The witty sarcasm between her and Bond i thought was very well done and i enjoyed the verbal jousting between the two.
'The Bitch is Dead' - So pleased they kept that in...
Can't imagine why :|
i don't think of her as a villain - even though she was the one who informed LeChiffre that Bond knew his "tell", and also denies Bond the money to re-enter the poker game (so LeChiffre could win)... sets Bond up to get beaten, so he could give up the password to the money he just won... and ultimately, stealing the money to deliver back to Quantum.... she didn't want to do it - but her ulterior motives forced her hand... and i thought Eva Green played her marvelously.. the scene between her and Bond on the balcony after Bond loses it all to LeChiffre is terrific.
I find only a small problem with this: Vesper works for the Treasury, and they certainly can't really know anything about MI6 (M's line "I report to the Prime Minister, and even he isn't stupid enough to ask what we do" makes it seem as though the Craig-era MI6 is far more secretive than any other era's; also, Vesper's line "Your bosses must be pretty well connected" makes it seem as though Vesper doesn't already know who Bond works for, and only during their evening meal does she find out that it's MI6), and the woman at the end of QoS actually works for Canadian Intelligence.
Also, Mitchell was as high up as any mole could be inside MI6 (without actually being M, himself), and if he couldn't leak information, why did they even try?
who knows the real reasons Quantum wanted her for.. it just so happens that the timing was right, and they used a fabricated story about Yusef to get her to go along with their plan in helping LeChiffre win the money back.
No, I wrote my words wrong. I meant to say that she's actually an employee of CI, not some other branch of the government (such as Vesper is).
Nope. They could have been much for faithful in many respects.
You have me at a disadvantage as i have not read the book i'm afraid.
Actually so far in the Craig series no female part was actually that good except perhaps the part of agent Field. But overall it leaves me with the feeling that they cannot for the love of movies write a decent believable female part.
Are you sure you weren't watching the 1967 non-canon version? Because the DC version is pure classic Bond and Ms Green is both beautiful and a wonderful actress. Defo one of the best Bond girls ever. Also her death was the mostg tragic scene in a Bond flick since Tracey's in OHMSS
Hope you enjoyed the brainwashing.
(I know a lot of you will disagree, but oh well. :) )
Mathis! Rene Mathis! So why did they clean him in QOS when Lechiffre reveals that Mathis was HIS good friend?
1. She doesn't come in until about 40 minutes in (it worked for Dr No but I'm not sure it does here).
2. Some of the romance is a bit awkward between Bond and Vesper - ESP the whole "little finger" and "armour" exchange. (would Bond REALLY say that?).
3. Her death, though dramatic, isn't as powerful as it perhaps could have been. By the time she dies we know she's a 'traitor'and therefore we know she's going to die.
Those sound quite harsh but I still really enjoy CR.
I choose to believe that Le Chiffre was setting Mathis up there, because in QoS, Genma says that they found him innocent, and if he'd had any real connection to Le Chiffre, they probably would have hung him.
I think he would if he was really in love, which he was. I thought the romance in the movie was done right and Bond's reaction to Vesper's death was something Bond would've done, "The bitch is dead."
