My number 7 (9) wil possible next... oh oh ...
Neither does SF in my opinion.
Any higher than 8 would be wrong though.
IMHO (for the sensitive guys here)
The only one I would dispute strongly is GE
FRWL GF OHMSS TSWLM GE CR
The 6 best films.
GF TSWLM and GE being the 3 important films for the franchise.
My top 00 seven still there...
:D
But of course TSWLM,GE,and CR are important.
It was merely a decision to shoot CR and therefore needing a new younger actor.
-DN for obvious reasons.
-OHMSS for proving the franchise could survive post Connery
-LALD for proving the franchise could succeed & thrive post Connery
-TSWLM for proving the franchise could reinvent itself iconically for a new generation
-GE likewise for proving Bond was could reinvent itself iconically for a new generation
-CR for proving that EON knew what the hell they were doing post-Cubby and hadn't completely lost it
The only switchover that I don't think moved the needle was TLD. I know Dalton has his fans and he definitely brought a different take to the character, but I don't see anything iconic or exceptionally memorable about his two films even though they are good films. What he tried to achieve, Craig has done better.
Agree in general, of those GF TSWLM & GE had the biggest positive impact.
GF defined Bond.
TSWLM came after the declining interest in Bond and "saved" the series.
GE of course saved it again and might even be the most important of them all.
CR didn't do anything extraordinary at the time, it didn't even sell more tickets than GE or DAD.
If anything it's SF who was important in the Craig era, BO wise, another decline after QOS and a four year gap could have put Craig into deep trouble.
During the later part of Brosnan's run, Bond had become an 'action man' and I believe the series had lost its way. Sure, box office returns were reasonably solid and even great in some markets. However, I believe that it was at the expense of long lasting 'quality', although I realize that is in the eye of the beholder. Bond had become like any other action hero. Machine gun totting and somewhat forgettable. A caricature. This is only my view of course.
I never thought that CR was made to generate massive box office returns. It was too complex and talky a film for that. Too mature even, with all the psychological interplay during the card game and what not. I think it was made to take Bond back to his roots and reset the franchise for a new, steadier and more substantive run. It succeeded magnificently in that respect imho. It's rather unfortunate that after such a stellar start, EON has been shaky at best with its future efforts, box office success notwithstanding. It's almost like they've come full circle and are ripe for a reset again.
That's why I firmly believe B25 will be an extremely important film, like the ones I mentioned above.
More successful with mass audiences, yes.
Better, absolutely not.
Dalton went for a tormented Bond too but never forgot that touch of sophistication, our bartender on the other hand has completely lost that.
I'm pleased it's made it this far.
Wouldn't it be great to get ONE movie every day for spots 10 to 3.
2 a day seem almost too fast as this thread is so much fun and it should go on a bit longer.
I have no objection :-). Someone else cares to weigh in? @BondJames perhaps? I know we have our political differences, but I do like to have you here in this topic :-).
Agreed. Top 10 would've been hugely undeserving.
My guess is it's either LTK, TLD or DN up next. If it's TB I'll be very disappointed.
