  • Interesting that Tim, Dan and Laz only started with 7 out of 26, and still have 4 out of 6 left with a lowest pick of just 15. There's definitely something to be said for a more 'real' Bond and a classic Fleming story.

I won't argue with passion gents, but... really?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I thought Dalton had a striking look as Bond, but his acting bordered on the melodrama and he lacked serious charisma. Intellectually I respected his take on the character, emotionally I didn't buy in.

And I never got the sense that Fleming's Bond was always angry, whereas Dalton was. Fleming's Bond took pleasure in women, and, while on assignment, wonderful foods (and wines and spirits). He was quite hedonistic in this regard. Just never got anything like that from Dalton.

In the end, however, I could be absolutely off base, and I should respect your love of the man and his work on this character.

You're not off base at all. And that's coming from someone who likes Dalton, loves the TLD and wanted him to make many more movies before he was screwed over

If TLD sneaks into the top 5 in lieu of Skyfall, I will not be held accountable for my actions.

I just wanted to thank GG for the work he has done here, outstanding effort.
I owe an apology as the task of ranking for me was overwhelming and I missed the deadline, (what an idiot)

Wait. Are you telling me that TLD has still survived? Still?

I look forward to seeing why and how when it finally crops up and we can see the details on voting.

It is obviously held in higher esteem than most people think! I gave it the second highest score, just below OHMSS! Am thrilled its doing so well!

I have a theory that there is always greater support for an actors first attempt. I know the theory is flawed (GL quiting did not help). There is one logic that would say that an actor gets better over time as they become more relaxed within the role (I dont see that myself) and another logic that says that an actor gives 100% first time round and is also free from the burden of review/critique and will not over think the role next time. For me SC is never more Bond than in Dr No, RM give a great performance in LALD, TLD has done well in this vote, we have a thread going on at the moment re Goldeneye being PB's best and CR seems to be broadly recognised as DC's best of the 4 (I know its up for debate)
    just rambling on now...Ill stop.

People complain about Kara, but the only thing that mars TLD is some of the cheap sets and cinematography/lighting. If the film was more artistic visually, it would easily be top five for me

For me that's part of the charm.
It's the 80s and John Glen did a terrific job on all 5 films.

I think TLD has pretty good cinematography. The Bratislava and Vienna scenes bathe in Cold War atmosphere. And those early morning scenes in the desert are beautifully shot as well.

But the jail is some of the worst art direction in a Bond film. The backlighting is terrible. I am reminded of the Arizona jail scene in an episode of Brady Bunch.

That ruins the whole film obviously.

Au service secret de sa Majeste: douze points

    Spectre: ten points

    GoldenEye: acht punten

    The Living Daylights: hét pont

Dalla Russia con amore: sei punti

    Casino Royale: viisi pistettä

Der Spion der mich liebte: vier Punkte (Nobody does it better :) )

    Goldfinger: три очка

Solo para tus ojos: Dos puntos

    Quantum Of Solace: um ponto

My vote so I am rather happy with the outcome I must say no matter in what order the last 6 will appear.

I always used to find the cinematography in LTK (also Alec Mills) a bit on the bland side, but the Blu-ray transfer is so spectacular that it made me appreciate Mills' work in a new light (pardon the pun).

I just don't understand why TLD is considered an elite Bond film here. There's good things about it, but way too much drags it down for me (weak main villains, bad pacing in the second half - generally just a weak second half, and just too many uninteresting moments). PTS and soundtrack are my favorite parts about it. Not trying to put down TLD too much; I just can't understand this high a placement.

TLD is the 80s FRWL and there hasn't been one since.

Skyfall thoroughly deserves its place in the top 5. Delighted.
