Hahaha you have no idea of how much a man i am,and what i have done, which is a lot,and i mean a lot....im never a victim.....you however are obviously born a victim, hence your immediate defensive mechanism...a sign of being,er,unfortunate shall we say ? ...its ok..we are here for you...sshhh now...
A hint for the future....dont be too obvious of your insecurities and react badly to every post...try a softly softly approach...you might gain 0.0001% of respect then...

How observant you are. Your blood pressure must be through the roof. I can say what I want and your reaction says more about you. You have been caught with you emotional pants down.

A man with your reactions cannot possibly be capable of having a relationship with a woman.

A psychological evaluator would have a field day with you.

    Sad Barry.

Yes @barryt007 , you made your side clear, you're a beloved member. I suggest you follow Murdock's advice and not ruin your birthday.

How many of you against one of me. I am flattered by the attention. And I thought James Bond was supposed to inspire manliness not adolescent hysterics.

You've lost all relevancy @acoppola. At first your Timothy Dalton obsession was cute in a twisted gothic-like kinda way.

And then you upped your game with that comment about Babs wanting to destroy Connery's legacy; that just borders on the Norman-Bates-ain't-got-nothing-on-me territory...

But now, with your lame and slightly anti-American tinged slight, you've become nothing more than a 1980s cartoon "provocateur"...

Look chaps, I enjoy discussing Bond, politics, girls...basically anything with you all.

I apologize for bringing up the great Orange One during my discussions with @acoppola earlier today, but in a way, the furor over those brief comments (I think it was one or two at the most and it was in context of what we were discussing - not meant to be a political statement or anything of that sort) kind of proved his point.

At the end of the day, I hope we can stop this bickering and get back to the topic of Bond and whether Dalton is a useless actor in the role in comparison to Craig or not ;)

It's really all good, I hope.

@bondjames I vote Dalton almost useless, if that counts (positive attributes: he looked the part and had the right thoughts; negative attributes: everything else (no presence, no charm, looks like a little boy with his shirt off)...

@peter I await the passionate response from his avid fans.

I personally prefer Craig, but understand and acknowledge that Dalton didn't get the same budget, commitment or vision from EON that Craig did.

Moreover, Craig was able to see what Dalton did which didn't work, and was also able to benefit from other successful spy/reboot franchises such as Bourne (who was also superbly contemplative - particularly at the end of the Bourne Supremacy) and Batman Begins (a masterfully executed reboot from the man who made the concept fashionable). Dalton only had Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Stallone & Arnie for contemporary inspiration.

So I think Dalton is underappreciated. I feel some of that is deserved and some of it is on account of EON.

I still think Dalton didnt have the screen presence of a Connery/Moore/Craig....if you dont have that, you cant be a long term respected Bond .

@bondjames, I honestly think if Dalton had screen presence (a la Craig, Conney), the budgets wouldn't have mattered if the leading man captivated us.

To your point about the films of the Dalton era, they all had leading men who were charismatic... That, along with some high concept storytelling (DIE HARD in particular) was the magic recipe.

Dalton is bad-ass. Did he have screen presence? Certainly. Maybe not quite up to the level of his predecessors (and successors), but it was there.

Dalton's performance was like watching a soap opera actor trying to be Bond. I wasn't seeing Bond with him. He looks good sure but his acting wasn't good enough. It was just so stiff and stagy. I'm sure that falls on Glen too. He didn't have his Terrance Young or Peter Hunt. That's what he really needed.

@barryt007, @peter, I do agree with the screen charisma comments. That is a common criticism of Dalton and there is some validity to it. However, the man really does hold the screen in Bratislava during the Koskov abduction, and when he interrogates Pushkin. He could have been much better than he was, with a little more directorial finessing.

I think they dumped him in a Moore/Brosnan (since he was initially on the list for this film) situation for TLD and then tried something altogether different for LTK, thereby throwing people. His supporting cast outside of Davi was useless for most of LTK as well. If he had a little more quality around him, I think he could have really been elevated. Perhaps not to Craig levels, but certainly better than he ended up being.

Dalton with Campbell (who brought the best out of Brosnan and Craig) might have really been something.

Fair play me olde pal...but could you imagine Craig interrogating Pushkin ?....i know Dalton was good in that ,but Craig ? scary...

@bondjames: all speculative, the "ifs" of the Dalton era. What we are left with is his body of work : lacking charisma and presence, stagey and uptight acting. He played Bond like a pissed off asshole with little charm (but I do like the Pushkin scene as well).

True, Craig could have nailed the Pushkin scene as well. Yusef gave us a small taste of what he could have done with it.

And yes, @barryt007, DC interrogating Pushkin would have killed (and all without the melodramatic swivel and gun pointing at the girl)...

Dalton's swivel was hilariously exaggerated, true. The worst was when he did it in LTK to Pam (during the Q scene in the hotel)

How do you over-act a swivel?? I don't know, but Dalts did it!!

hahaha Daltonbond could swivel...and @peter i see your point,i think Craigbond might have killefd everyone ,including the girl and the guard....haha

The one I don't like is his dramatic cut in front of Lupe at the casino and (pause) "take me to him". It feels overly dramatic.
I think Dalton could do humour, provided it suited him. I always liked the "sorry old man...section 26" line back to Saunders.

The quips and more jokey lines were less successful though. They weren't something that you felt Dalton would actually say.

In that case why did the former head of Sony, Amy Pascal, suggest Idris Elba?

Was Craig proven before Bond ? He was a high risk casting.

I can only look at the facts We are not in the year 1995.

An silly idea by one none Eon Exec....probably a token PC gesture to appear PC to her peers or even 'publically'. Look ar the facts Bond is more bankable as Fleming conceived. All the nations you mention above are non influential and poor.....ie you wont make as much money there....and a black Bond would detract the proven audience that is already there. Oh and Amy Pascal has left Sony, so her silly Elba comment has gone with her.
