Which is what they did—basically—with Waltz denying he was playing Blofeld.
More than one. A lot, in fact. Whedon chopped a lot of Snyder footage. He also reshot nearly every Superman scene.
Some for better, some for worse.
The end for DC? Justice League stumbles at the US box office .
In the aftermath of dismal reviews, Justice League has underperformed at the box office in its US debut, with the superhero team-up movie grossing far less than studio Warner Bros had earlier projected.
The film grossed $96 million over the three days, against early tracking suggesting it would gross between $110 -$120 million.
It's also the lowest opening weekend of the Extended DC Universe, comprising of films including Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, and the first to not clear $100 million in its opening weekend.
Internationally, Justice League grossed $185 million across the three days, with the UK contributing $9.8m of it – a 4% increase on the opening weekend of Thor: Ragnarok three weeks ago. It's a different story in the US, however, with the Marvel rival clearing $122 million in its opening weekend on the back of strong buzz and glowing reviews.
It has also been suggested that the film will likely experience a significant drop-off in audiences in its second week, mimicking the trajectory of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . That movie dropped a steep 69% in its second week at the US box office back in March 2016.
According to Deadline, Justice League will need to ultimately gross $750 million worldwide to break even, with sources telling the site that the film's production and promotional cost is at least $450 million.
Justice League's fraught finances have been a matter of concern for several months, after it was revealed Warner Bros had spent $25 million on reshoots which commenced this summer under the guidance of Joss Whedon, who stepped in following the departure of original director Zack Snyder.
You might get an extended cut but the chances of seeing a Snyder cut are very slim.

It's still crazy to see films have a $94 million opening domestic weekend that is deemed underwhelming.
Justice League: $281.5 million
Spider-man Homecoming: $256.5 million
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2: $252.5 million
Logan: $247.4 million
Thor Ragnarok: $231.8 million
Wonder Woman: $228.3 million
Still, way below such films as BvS ($422.5 million), The Avengers ($392.5 million), Age of Ultron ($392.5 million), Spider-Man 3 ($381.7 million), Captain America Civil War ($379.5 million), Iron Man 3 ($372.5 million).
That's the thing, the Box Office landscape for these type of tentpole films operate on OW numbers North of $100million.
I remember how much of a big deal it was when spider-man back in 2002 grossed an OW domestic number of $115million. 6 years later Marvel Studios release the first of their cinematic universe by relying on their B and C list characters with their leading actor being a huge risk to boot (RDJ). Iron Man went on to earn an opening weekend of $99Million.
Compare that with a movie with a budget north of $300Million and based on A-list iconic characters that's supposed to rival the Avengers and Yeah, an OW domestic number of $94Million is embarrassingly pitiful.

JL is on course to lose millions.
I read several days back that JL will begin to turn a little profit once it passes the $700 million mark, not sure how true that still stands however.
Bottom line too much bad press has pushed the audience away, viewers have lost any faith in DC.
Yeah it's crazy. It's also the reason why studios don't take the time to make enough smaller and mid-sized films that essentially died out in the 90s. It's a crying shame but then again I suppose that's what Amazon and Netflix are for to some degree.
Some minor spoilers!
I have been waiting for a JL live action film since I was a kid. Unfortunately the movie was a 7/10 for me. Don’t get me wrong, Zach Snyder cast all the right actors/actresses for the roles. The costumes were stunning and amazing. There were some promising shots in the film that were god like...
For example the red skies were amazing, kinda gives a preview of the world DS and SW live in. Loved it. The ending shot of Batman with his batchopter was also one of my favorite shots. Got me pumped for a solo Bat film!
Now I managed to talk to a guy who did some of the visual effects for the film, basically for those who don’t know about “Mustache Gate”, Henry Cavill had a mustache throughout the filming process. He was in Mission Impossible and they said he wasn’t allowed to shave it. So they had to reshoot a good chunk of the movie when Whedon came aboard. The lower part of Cavills face was pure CGI. The first half of the film is Snyder and the second half is pure Whedon (minus the Superman ending and post credit scenes).
My problem with this film is that it really needed an extra hour just to flow better. I actually think “Suicide Squad” was a better film.. Yes JL was better than BVS but the problem is that the entire plot fell flat, I didn’t feel like there was really any real danger. They are literally in a remote part of Russia, to me they should’ve had SW take over Gotham, should’ve showed Parademons killing innocent bystanders. They needed to show that the end of the world threat was real.
I would’ve rather they waited till say Feb-March 2018 just to perfect the CGI and to add an extra hour to the movie. I would’ve gladly waited.
Instead we got a rushed movie with some really crappy CGI.
The whole movie just felt off. We deserve so much better.
Another thing that sucked for me is that the team pretty much couldn’t even handle SW, Superman shows up and kicked his ass with ease. I was expecting way more. Once again Batman became a bystander to a threat he couldn’t even remotely handle. This is one reason why cutting Deathstroke out of the film sucked. Seeing Batman take on Deathstroke would’ve been a great little side story for Batman. How can they go from the warehouse scene to this?
So I blame the writing, the directorial change, CGI deadline and cutting out the eight leaked deleted scenes.
We only get on DC movie next year and that’s next December (Aquaman). So much for DC’s place to release 2-3 films a year. Ben Affleck is always rumored to leave.

Deathstroke and Lex talk about forming a legion of doom team!
Gotta say that Deathstroke costume was insanely badass.
One of the highlights of the film sadly. It’s looking like the legion of doom will be in Suicide Squad 2 possibly or maybe that will be the plot of the Deathstroke solo film? I doubt they will include that for the plot of a JL2. Also wonder if they hope to add Shazam or GL to the team. Possibly both.
I am more excited for the legion of doom than a justice league 2.

Do you know whether there will be an alternate or extended cut of JL?
According to the guy I talked to, there will be deleted scenes but no extended cut.. He said they are currently still working on the VFX for the deleted scenes and perfecting them so expect the VFX in the deleted scenes to look better than the VFX in the film.. Sad.
That is a shame and more of a shame that we won't see a Snyder Version of the film, from my personal point of view I wanted to see Snyders vision.
Oh well. At least we have Cyborg and Captain Boomerang movies to look forward to from DC.
It is unfortunate. For every good thing Whedon contributed to the film, he also contributed something pretty poor.
After seeing the deleted scenes list from Snyder's film i.e. the stuff that the studio/Whedon cut, I would have probably preferred if they had just saw it through with him. But unfortunately, once Snyder left and a huge chunk of his work was left behind, it never received the proper post. It's very unfinished, and it would cost WB more money to release it.
