If you could lose a few movies in the franchise, which films would you leave out?

No brainer. Moonraker and Die Another Day. Although I must agree with Dimi, this thread is quite blasphemous. Whether you like a Bond film or not, the 22 official movies are part of and belong in the series. I've never seen so many people who profess to love a certain thing be so quick to be so negative. Too many hypocrites running around here...

(Die Another Day)

Why:

Starting with FRWL is not realy a problem, it wil settle Mi6 there relation with spectre. Blofeld said about take revenge on the death of Dr no you can see as something happend in the past.

With removing GF we go straight to Thunderball, TB look much on Dr No and FRWL and with removing Dr no it wil look more of frech movie and the FRWL looks are less of problem. Also the actor who playing Felix in TB wil be more on this place with no Dr no and no GF.

The problems about Blofeld i see more as a problem of Yolt. To at OHMSS after Thunderbal, Bond wil not see him earlier in OHMSS as Eon whant in the first place.

GE skip 9 years forward and whyle TLD is from 1987, you can also imagine it be from 1986 + 9 = 1995. In 9 years happend a lot.

The CR Cinematopgraphy and part of the storyline fit easy with Twine. With skipping Die Another Day 7 years have past: the Mi6 bulding be/is rebuld and we see at the beginning of CR Bond must get some trust back. The atack on Mi6, the death of Elektra and Robert King and 7 years lost years we a good reasen for Bond and M not feeling right. But i at Die Another Day between () with DAD you stil feel the same, but then also DAD be a result of the happenings in Twine. Moneypenny and Charles also not very well in DAD, stil 7 years have past since 1999 and Moneypenny and Charles quite. Bill Tanner Sr past a way and his son take over. The new Quatermaster (The offical meaning of Q.) not be so succesfoll and be fired in the mean time. After 19 years of absent Felix be back to bring Bond back on track and reasen for his absent be that James Bond not be seen for a whyle in America til 2006 and Felix having a private Life. In other words he take his job back because he feels he mist it. The last time he whas there be in AVTAK, the last mission Felix meet Bond be in TLD.

Nice fan fiction. Other than that, none of the previous movies are connected to Casino Royale.

But dropping DN, @M_Balje, is a thought I find hard to swallow.

YOLT and OHMSS should be reversed to restore proper Bond/Blofeld continuity, but neither deleted.

DAF can go. I've always hated the ambiguity of Blofeld's "death." Blofeld escaping in YOLT, yes, but Bond sloppily not finishing off his archenemy? Awful!

TMWTGG can go. I know people love Christopher Lee, but the plot makes no sense. The best shot in the world needs to kill people via a rigged fun house? And the second "golden gun"? Ugh... The original novel should be adapted to film someday.

I'm tempted to let TND go, but the Paris character gives Brosnan's Bond a sorely needed dimension. It can stay.

DAD must go. It adds nothing to the franchise.

DAF for being a horrible followup
MR can stay if the space sequence is dropped
AVTAK has too much wrong with it to salvage
TND is more about action than about Bond
DAD for, well you fill in the blanks

I don't view us as hypocritical in the least. Because we want better things for the series by eradicating the bad eggs doesn't mean we are blasphemous. Granted, some people like MR and YOLT and even DAF, but there is an overall majority vote on films that fans want taken out. Among them are usually MR, YOLT, DAF, and DAD. I mean, the fact that all of us took the time to post and discuss in this thread shows our love for Bond, even when a few of the films leave a sour taste. Just because I feel this way doesn't mean I hate the franchise. You have to examine all the bad eggs to appreciate the shining golden eggs after all.

Looking at some of the other posts, what alot of you are basically saying is all spy films made after bond took inspiration from it. Austin powers, yes because ITS SUPPOSED TO, its a comedy parodying bond and other things, and i love all 3 austin powers films. Jason bourne, no. Jason bourne is an assasin on the run from the goverment who can't remember who he is and has/had a girlfriend who he cares about. Bond is a british secret agent who knows exactly who he is, who has gadgets, and (apart from 2 exceptions) doesn't have strong feelings for women, preferring to just sleep with them. Hell, in terms of combat and realism bond took inspiration from bourne in the last two films. MI, maybe, can't make my mind up on that one. But what about that new film, tinkor tailor soldier, did THAT take inspiration from bond??????? i don't think so.

but what about others like goldfinger and TSWLM that some of you are suggesting, I think overall they would be among the most popular films and in a public poll/majority vote would be no where near the bottom
• It's only a bit of fun after all. Obviously, no matter how much any one individual feels a need to omit any release from the franchise, it simply can't happen

We've had 22 of them now and with six different actors in the role. Bond films and actors will be here to stay, we may not like everything that happened at some time or another but at the end of the day there won't be much anybody can do about it. Erasing any titles from the series may seem unforgivable to some and necessary to others. It's good to see there are those who treat the franchise as sacrosanct and others who feel tossing one or two of them into the trash on the way out wouldn't do any harm whatsoever

It's been a good thread this

Well, I really like all 22 Bond movies, and I wouldn't want to see any of them disappear, but if I had to make that choice, here are the ones I'd trash:

-Goldfinger
-You Only Live Twice
-On Her Majesty's Secret Service

They refer to OHMSS. Also, arguably, LALD.

I'd drop GF, YOLT, OHMSS and DAF. I would then get Connery to do OHMSS as his fourth film (after DN, FRWL and TB) while he was still interested in the role. The other three could then happen whenever, with whoever EON wanted in the role. I could see Moore doing DAF, for instance.

Drop GF, YOLT, OHMSS and DAF but NOT GE, TND, TWINE and DAD?! Wow! That's amazing! Each to their own of course but it's incredibly hard for me to fathom how anyone could think that the horrible Brosnan films, or atleast his last three are better than some of Connery's films and the fantastic OHMSS!

I'd drop all the Brosnan films with maybe the exception of GE and I'd also say farewell to QOS. Every other film I'd keep as I like them all for different reasons. After the Brosnan flicks and QOS, DAF is my least favourite but I wouldn't go so far as to drop it. I like the scenes with MR Wint and Mr Kidd and with Bond and Tiffany in her apartment along with certain other scenes.

I must say too that an OHMSS with a lean Connery around the age he was in Dr No and FRWL would be very tempting...

I guess I'm expected to make a little list involving DAD, QoS etc. and to say how horrible they are. but that's been done hundreds of times.
If I had that godly power of wiping out some films from existance, it would be heartbreaking. I consider myself a true Bond fan and would defend even the average films against the negative comments of some non-Bond fans. Why? because I love that whole universe. So some films which are low in my list, still have some good scenes, or characters or even heck! a good title song. Not every entry can be perfect, so I would leave the series just as it is. Would I take out some scenes or characters? well, that would be another story.

I think that all of the movies are worthy they stay, put if i had to i would choose, DAF, MR and AVTAK.
• DAF & DAD. With TND hanging on by a thread.

Many of the other bond films have little bits I'd change, but the world is still a better place for them existing :-)

Is it possible to drop "most" of a film out but leave in certain scenes. E.g. The fight between Bond and Franks in DAF or the confrontation between Bond and Dr K in TND.

Why do you want to lose that fight, it's one of the most well - choreographed hand to hand combat scenes in the entire franchise!

You misunderstood me. I meant LEAVE IN that scene but take out the rest (or at least most of) DAF
