That would add more pressure, don't you think? Making a Bond film is one thing, making a Bond film in an anniversary year in another, and making one introducing the new actor, in an anniversary year has to be something else altogether.
Ideally, Craig should have been given his P45 after SP. The new Bond debuts next year, with a second film arriving on the 60th anniversary in 2022. I say "ideally", because I think it is time for a severe course correction with a new actor.
At the rate they've been going (since the turn of the century), I'd say we're looking at 2023 at the very earliest for the new Bond's debut outing. Probably more like 2024/2025.
Cubby on the other hand didn't have that problem and could get a new film out in two years whether Sean and Roger returned or not.
On a more optimistic note, perhaps Boyle will get B25 out timely and efficiently without wearing the crew out thus necessitating a "break" post release? Perhaps Eon will get their second wind with this new film, a new slate of fresh ideas for the future, and a motivation to keep Bond on the screen on a more consistent level?
Still, 2022 I think that would be the right date for another Bond film after this delay. Failing which, 2021.
2023 would just depress the heck out of me.
You can say that again!
Please no back to back four year gaps, that's just brutal. I was thinking today that 2022 seems appropriate, because it would be 20 years since someone other than Craig was Bond in a Bond film.
I shall continue to be myself and comment on all things Bond, and if you want to keep sniping at me, that's your choice.
James Bond boss says 'door open' to black 007 with Idris Elba hinted as frontrunner.
Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has reportedly announced that the door is open for a black 007 in the future, once Daniel Craig completes his final outing as the spy.
The Daily Star reports that director Antoine Fuqua revealed the details of a conversation with Broccoli, in which he said "it is time" for a non-white actor to take on the iconic role.
Fuqua discussed who might be next in the running with Broccoli, who's certain the progressive move "will happen eventually", with a reported frontrunner for the role.
Indeed, the director seemed to hint that the actor is currently being eyed as a strong candidate, adding: "Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.”
Danny Boyle will direct the next, Daniel Craig-starring Bond installment, with work having already begun on the script with Trainspotting scribe John Hodge.
Eon productions heads Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli called the director “exceptionally talented” in a statement, while the head of US distributor MGM said: ”We couldn’t be more thrilled than to bring the next 007 adventure to the big screen, uniting the incomparable Daniel Craig with the extraordinary vision of Danny Boyle.”
Craig revealed he would return to the iconic role last August, having previously played Bond four times: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre.
The film is scheduled to reach UK cinemas on the 25 October 2019.

Supposedly, Barbara has been quoted in the tabloids as saying that she would want an ethnic actor to play the role.
I think Barbara has a preference towards being more inventive and new. MGW took a noticeable backseat after 2006 and I think the decision to be more character-driven and auteur-focused has come from Broccoli.
Regardless, if fans approve, Barbara calls the shots. She's not going to pick a bland Henry Cavill type of actor. Idris Elba is probably a little too old. But there are a host of great ethnic actors who can play 007.
I always thought Chiwetel Ejiofor was well-suited to play a suave Bond but with a hint of intensity.
In the off chance that she has lost it and is actually entertaining this idea, does anyone have some credible choices? I agree Idris and Chiwetel are past it.
Idris is one of my favorite actors ; it would be wonderful to see him, or any number of non-Caucasian actors in the role of a suave international spy, but not as James Bond.
One thing that is frustrating is that if someone is against changing Bond’s race, or gender, the charge of some type of “ism” is directed towards them. There is nothing wrong with wanting Bond to remain a white, British, heterosexual male; it’s not an “ism” or. a “phobia” it’s a preference.
Well said,i agree 100%.
EDIT:
@Ludovico beat me to it.
Of course she is. In this world where an offence can be found when kindly told to have a lovely day she's not going to lay out facts of who Bond is and who je's always been. That's just asking for an unecessary headache. Just tell fools what they want to hear but dont do anything more than that.
This really scares me and I don’t want to be racist but it’s just not the character. I don’t know if I could get excited for a bond film if they did this.
Not wanting Bond’s ethnicity to change is not racist; don’t let anyone make you feel like it is .

Highly unlikely I suspect for a variety of reasons but he has charisma in spades and can act when required.
I can’t see where his career would go after Thor so I’m sure he’d be well up for it. He seems well suited to a franchise.
Yeah he seems unlikely to be cast. Unless B25 is a flop and they need a recognised name to get the series on an even keel. He would be the Roger choice.
This. Read it and move on.
Of the know “candidates “ Hemsworth is very high on my list; I think he’s done all he can with the character of Thor; Within a more traditional, fun, Bond film, he’s got everything it takes.
Couldn't possibly agree more!
Precisely. It's the first rule of mass media: give the people what they want! ;)
Just remember Anthony Horowitz and Sir Roger. They were attacked by kids on their diapers having fun on Twitter.
Besides, journalists ask questions expecting an answer to please them or to create a conflict. If Barbara says "we could have a black Bond someday", you title IDRIS ELBA WILL BE THE NEXT BOND. If Barbara says "Bond should be white", you title CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTS BY BARBARA BROCCOLI REGARDING A BLACK BOND.
The things I enjoy about the Bond world - the locations he travels to, the suits he wears, his ability to handle any situation he's in, the thrilling adventures and people he encounters - none of those have to change because the actor has dark skin.
I wonder if some people are bothered by the prospect of a black Bond because they'll feel they can no longer RELATE to the character. That doesn't have to be the case.
And the argument that "it's not the character that Fleming created" doesn't really hold much water considering how much the character HAS already changed, especially in the last 20 years.
Just my two cents.
