Arsenal have already lost. Chelsea 3-0 up. Arsenal denied of a clear pen in the first half to make it worse.
I'm thinking of what consequences of Arsenal not getting CL football next season. They have no chance keeping up with the other big teams on an EL budget. Liverpool and Sp*rs will have plenty of cash from their CL campaign (and qualification) that allows them to strengthen massively. Chelsea too by qualifying. City and United have loads of funds too.
Arsenal meanwhile are left with owners that won't spend and a "self-sustainable model". Although a positive thing given the state of football in 2019, it won't take the team anywhere. At all.
I don´t think the long term consequences of this ne result will be massive. There is no doubt that intelligence and know how when it comes to spending money the right way is more important than the cash itself. I hate to bring up Tottenham as an example in a time like this... but still. You can have a good season even without spending massively. What is most important for Arsenal I feel, is patience.
I think I have to disagree with this, at least slightly (in terms of money). It's no question this was Arsenal's biggest game in what… a decade? It's been reported that their transfer budget could be as low as £40 million without CL qualification. On top of that analysts from the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust expect Arsenal to make a loss of around £60m this season. That's a massive impact on how they can continue to build their squad, as £40 million is what the other teams around them might cash out on one player. That's how crazy the market has become.
£40 million might be enough to find some up and coming talents that can be an addition to the key players in the squad, but still, the gap up to the teams above will only grow bigger. Meanwhile you also have clubs behind Arsenal that are likely to spend just as much…
Also, as you can read by the comment section, teams that finished behind Arsenal but will likely have a bigger budget includes United (The Times reports £250m), Wolves, Everton, and Leicester.
I watched some of AFTV fan cams after the game, god that channel gets banter, there were some seriously unhappy fans
Yeah, there are understandably a lot of unhappy fans now; not just over the final but also the state of the club. As for AFTV I really don't care for all the regulars. I remember several of them being very #Wengerout, but when he announced he was leaving his position, they were full of praise.
I do feel for the Arsenal fans that spent so much money to get to Baku
Questioning Emery at this point is pointless, I feel. The starting eleven and substitutions in certain games can be criticised, but not much more than that. The issue is the squad really, and the way things are run in the club in general. I almost feel for the guy and the mess he's agreed to work with.
I feel for those fans too, but the worst thing is UEFA's decision to hold the final in Baku in the first place. Arsenal had a disadvantage too, having to leave Henrikh Mkhitaryan behind in London, as he felt UEFA couldn't provide the protection needed. Also, a video posted on social media saw Arsenal fans wearing shirts with Mkhitaryan written on the back stopped by the local police. Incredible.
Who's going to win Liverpool or Spurs?
I don't think either team can be underestimated, Liverpool have been playing some very good football this season, but I'd rather see Spurs win.
Oh dear
Terrible news. José Antonio Reyes was part of the the Invincibles team as well. RIP.
Was just checking Reyes wiki page I thought he was more prolific for Arsenal than the stats shown. I can't remember was he a replacement for Overmars?
Overmars left in 2000, didn't he? Reyes signed during the 2003–04 campaign. Can't remember much of the details around the signings around that time.
I remember Overmars going to Barca, my memory is vague with other teams players signing and leaving around that time
Same here. Even with Arsenal really, as I was only a kid back then.
…and thank you Liverpool. Made the weekend better there. :-bd
The rejuvenation of the Dutch team is clearly further on the road as the English team.
The English should do something about those so-called fans who riot and a clearly not fit to be let of the Island.
