  • This probably had something to do with having different directors from Goldeneye onwards. Both Glen and Rog stayed too long in situe, their comfort zone. I think Brosnan had the perfect number of times as Bond, four and out.
  • Perhaps the correct choice of word to use for Cambell's effect on the franchise is reinvigorated, particularly so in the case of CR. Craig's first outing was a particularly stylish enterprise, I can't remember when I've seen a more original casting.…
  • Creasy, if I remember correctly the first wave on foot are taken out. Then Bond check's for Silva, he's not there. Late to the party, he's with the second wave, but he isn't aware if Bond survived, untill Bond start's firing at the helo!
  • Some very droll and amusing comments here and I'm one of those who tends to not be all that critical. Anyway, these might have been covered already but, for me only a couple of things jinked in the movie. I do love Bond's run with the Tennyson quote…
  • Don't forget Boysie Oakes in The Liquidator, John Gardner's reluctant killer played by one of the few actors to come close to Connery in his prime. For a gonzo treat check out MGM's 1966 Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die featuring Dorothy Provine as …
  • I always kept wondering about those reflective glass doors/panels that Bond negotiates to observe/reach Patrice. Then when I thought more about Severine, of course she's The Lady From Shanghai! So the noir thing was there all the time.
  • Severine's character was a tragic figure in a fated sort of way, that had been her life. For this reason, she was a far more sympathetic character than we have been used to in the past in the role of the 'sacrificial lamb'. The brevity of her screen…
  • Well played jetsetwilly, a good post sir. Also remember the glass of whiskey on the head of Severine is partially based on the scene in the TMWTGG novel when Bond borrows Scaramaga's gun to shatter the pineapple atop the singer/dancer's head to live…
  • Aye an' Finney had the best line in the film, "Welcome to Scotland!" I laughed...
  • Thanks Quarterdeck I actually managed to find it. There was only 6 strips in total as I did them as samples to show what a John Gardner based James Bond story might look like. If you are familiar with the Titan reprints the last 007 stories were not…
  • Redbelt, the thinking man's martial arts film, cool. "Take him to Brazil"
  • Hey Quarterdeck can you check you're source and confirm it's the correct email. By the way I'm the guy who did the art samples. Want to know more? Just find out if the correct site was bondbook.com or email me a link.
  • Ah Bentley there you are...been looking for you everywhere. Pity about Hunted, haven't seen it yet, but you seem to exibit a fair amount of discrete taste so I'll take you at your word. In case you didn't read my reccomendation in another discussion…
  • No this is a pretty cool film, could have been better, but then Casino Royale could probably've been better..yeh know. The reason why people react is because CR was so impressive, anything that followed would have been less, so less. For me, my only…
  • Hi Bently, thanks for reccomending those 2 other writers for their combat stuff. Peter O'Donnell was a fan of the Quiller books or at least rated them so I must get round to giving them a try. Actually when I say films that Blaise/O'Donnell influenc…
  • Now where was I, oh yes. Before I begin I must just acknowledge Bently how well your intro to this discussion was, very complete. An important point you made was how deep the O'Donnell characters were and how you would like to be their friends. Also…
  • The excellent spooks I believe has influenced Skyfall. Melissa George made one of the coolest little horror films you will ever see. The hardest part of any movie is to get the ending right, this one will blow you away - Triangle. She almost nailed …
  • GMSkarKa try and get a peek at the Bond on Set book for Quantum of Solace. When I briefly studied it I couldn't help but think of Gemma and Craig as M and W, mostly because of the informality of the photos, their relaxed manner. This in itself is a …
  • Hi Bentley, Modesty and Willie would be the hardest to cast, so I'll come back to them. as well as Tarrent and I 've always worked along the lines of figure out who the villains could be. So my picks for I LUCIFER are (and here other Blaise fans can…
  • Bentley your bang on with your assessment and you're right to reccomend new readers start with SABRETOOTH, what an openning to a story! That's the novel that Tara should film first, though I always understood A TASTE FOR DEATH was his favourite and …
  • Lets not forget Revenge based on the Jim Harrison Novella. If you missed it catch it. There was one scene in particular which is very Bondian. Costner's character put's his old friend's domo in his place. Crimson Tide superb and the last Star Trek f…
  • Bravo OBrady. I'm sure you noticed the TWINE connection, the similar menage a trois of Bane/Renard, Talia/Elektra and a nuclear device? So if Nolan references Bond in his take on Batman should we expect the possibility of the reverse should Eon beck…
  • Gentlemen, Gentlemen can't we all just get along? Right in no particular order, Dalton talented guy, probably the first to bring the brooding seriesness that is so evident in our current incarnation. Dramatic yes, but by way of theatre hence somethi…
  • The cuffs, the cuffs - look can we cut to the chase, somebody open a category to deal with the cuffs! Meanwhile anybody notice the suicide mission reference?
  • Remember how Fleming would describe Bond's villains, that's how to process Bardem's/Silva's hair. Hasn't anyone noticed the YOLT/TMWTGG references in the trailers?
  • Dirk Pitt and of course, who could forget Arthur Two Sheds Jackson.
  • This rogue 007 romp is a guilty pleasure for me, mainly to see Connery come back and own Bond one more time. Obviously there some shortcomings in the scripting department and as Lancaster007 pointed out, Galton and Simson were not the most ideal pol…
  • If you study the short image in the costume designer video of Bond and M standing next to DB5, notice the packing crates surrounding them. A storage area possibly within MI6 ? If their security is so severely compromised as I speculated earlier in t…
