I'm not criticising him as an actor just noting that he looks absurd in those photos

It’s a fashion shoot folks, of course there’s going to be a degree of exaggeration. With some vision, looking beyond the beard and fashion shoot posturing, There is a strong contender in those shots .
    And yes he can act.

Indeed Talos7, agree with your previous post as well. It's an exaggeration, but it gives you an idea to a certain extent. A little imagination works wonders, gents.

Bond with a beard, let's say in Swiss

Just occurred to me that Turner has a Huggy Bear thing going on in that first picture:

I'm perfectly fine with Tuner's look in those photos. I agree that these photo shoots can look overstylized at times, but I can see potential - physically at least.

OK. I admit. He does look Bondian there alright.

    He's got the looks.

Past experience shows that's not enough.

He has the right look, for sure.

I have to confess, the only thing I have seen him in is a small role in the Hobbit films, so I can't speak for his acting chops.

Indeed. He's quite sublime in And Then There Were None

In spite of the beard I think Turner looks alright there.

I kind of miss the days when Bond had a Bondian haircut. Craig's Ivy league, or whatever it is seemed fresh and new back in 2006. I can remember getting mine cut like that a lot back then. By SF it reminded me too much of Jack Webb on Dragnet, and in SP just seemed like a longer version of that.

When Bond does get recast, I really do want a traditional classic looking Bond in his late '30's or so.

Sans beard, he is looking very Bond in these shots; the hair and wardrobe are spot on.
Turner absolutely deserves a strong look including screentest.

If the Bond gig doesn't work out, Turner's career in 'beard modeling' looks secure. ;)

Many actors grow their hair and
/or beards out when not filming something in case a role comes along where it’s needed.

I am wondering if Henry Cavill's confirmed involvement as the titular character in The Witcher series on Netflix may preclude him from consideration after Craig leaves.

Unlikely since it's a miniseries with a limited run.

I have to repeat how much his performance in MI:F significantly cooled my enthusiasm for Cavill being Bond.

He really has! Could still pull off an older Bond, I think – like Connery in NSNA.

    I agree.

As demonstrated on several occasions, even someone like Roger Moore, the most lighthearted and refined of Bonds, could successfully convey intensity and cruelty when necessary-- in fact, those cruel moments were especially memorable because on the surface, Moore was so gentlemanly. So why not get another Bond actor in that style? Not every actor to play the role has to make the "killer" nature of Bond so obvious. It can be a slightly more subtle part of the characterization yet still be prominent enough.

You don't need to look so much like a tough guy to be one. It's something that can come across through behavior.

Indeed. For me, the actor who gets the role should be three measures of presence, one of straightforward gentlemanliness, half a measure of cruelty. Add a large thin slice of lemon peel, and you got the next Bond!

It suggests some of us want a bit more stylish refinement from the Bond actor, but with a killer edge as required and when necessary. By process of elimination, this excludes Hardy.

Turner, Fassbender, Hiddleston, Hemsworth and Cavill can all work for me but I'm open to other suggestions. I can't really comment on Madden until I see the Bodyguard, but I think he's probably not tall enough for my liking (shorter than Hawes from what I can see and that's not a good thing). I personally don't like Norton.
