he has possibly the dullest voice and delivery of any actor ever

I'm looking forward to the show. 5ft 10 (Madden's height) potentially excludes some taller actresses (like Debicki) and even actors as villains, which is something I'd like them to avoid.

@bondjames It is a solid series so far, with an absolutely killer opening scene in the first episode. There are some narrative inconsistencies, but they may actually be plot points they return to at a later date.

Madden actually does have reasonable 'Bond chops' in this, but as you said, he is rather diminutive. That presents a major problem.
I'm very much looking forward to it @Roadphill, and must check out Line of Duty as well.

Here is the latest photo of Madden standing next to Luke Evans and Tom Hiddleston - it's from last night at the GQ awards. Chadwick Boseman, Jeff Goldblum and David Haye are the others in the photo. Even accounting for camera angles (Hiddleston is a couple of inches taller than Boseman but doesn't look it in the photo), height will be an issue.

Now imagine him next to someone like Debicki.

Hardy is too old to ever be cast as Bond. It's like the discussion about Elba. Academic only.

Might as well be discussing whether Jason Isaacs would make a good Bond. I'd have preferred him over Brosnan, that's for sure.

Jason Isaacs would have been a great Bond in his prime.

Could Bond ever be Jewish though - would the Fleming purists approve?

It's not exactly written in his face. Unless Bond goes full frontal nudity, Bond won't be Jewish if a Jew plays him. That's also why I've got no problem with a homosexual actor playing Bond.

Just putting this out there but it's not just Jewish men that are circumcised.

Yeah but the character of bond isn’t circumsized

I'm sure you've got plenty of proof.
I can just see this hitting the media circuit soon enough. "Should the next Bond be cut?"

He's reportedly Craig's height. 5ft 10. They should go taller next time imho.

    Evans has a certain style.

We don't know that. Lots of Christians are.

As was Roger Moore in real life. He discusses it in his autobiography My Word is My Bond.

I have to admit that the photo lineup with Madden puts the kibosh on him being adequately tall enough for Bond. Oh well, back to Turner as my main candidate then.

Not saying for Bond necessarily. But he has a good presence - you notice him. I thought his character in the Hobbit or whatever it was, was very well played - lots of ambiguity.

pierce has really grown into his looks. a great face.

Grown into his looks? Is that a euphemism for "old age?" ;)

This is what Pierce used to look like:

He certainly didn't need to grow into his looks! I doubt he's ever looked more handsome.

Let's face it - there's no younger British actor that looks as good as Pierce did back in his prime! Sure, it's a slightly superficial observation, there's more to Bond than his face, but Brosnan played Bond, he's one of the 'chosen six', so it's not unreasonable to compare future Bond actors with past ones.

    Future Bond actor advert:

Bond actor wanted. Reasonable height. Acting ability helps. Doesn't need to be too good looking. Just enough to make Barbara Broccoli go "ooh, I like a bit of rough!"

    :P

I disagree. I think he looks better and cooler now than he did as a young man.

Connery looked great in his 20s and then went through a difficult patch before emerging rejuvenated in older age.

Rog looked great in his younger and middle years and then lost it in later life. In terms of looks, that is.

Brozza has aged well is what I'm saying. And I personally think his face is more 'interesting' and characterful now.

I didn't even remember he was in The Hobbit. Now that you mention it, I do vaguely recall his presence. I'm not the biggest fan of his acting, but the guy has a decent rugged look.

Brosnan was always a very good looking fella. That was never his problem. I prefer young Pierce frankly. He had an edge in all the 80s shows I've seen of him, and particularly The Noble House and The Fourth Protocol. Much as I like Dalton these days, I think Brosnan would have nailed it had he been cast after Moore.

I never understood the appeal of Owen.

@bondjames why would Bond's height narrow the casting choice of villains? Surely villains, whether brutish enforcers or Main villains can be taller than him.

Technically it shouldn't @Ludovico, but a lead actor's ego may preclude taller villains, and furthermore EON may not want him to look like a midget next to them during photo shoots and the like.

Haven't all Craig's villains been approximately the same height, slightly taller or slightly shorter than him? It can't be a coincidence after 4 films. I'm pretty sure the same has applied to other actors in the past. Let's see with B25 - I bet you the same holds true. It will impact the Bond girls for sure.

I think Bond villains should be superior to Bond. In intellect for the main villain and in strength for the main henchman. Or both if the main villain is a capable fighter. So I don't mind at all a taller villain. Or a taller M.

It could just be camera angles in that shot above. Here is one of Hiddleston and Goldblum from the same evening, and the difference isn't as pronounced as above. Maybe the first three were standing on some kind of platform.

Bottom line though is this guy isn't the biggest. I saw him in Bastille Day aka The Take and he was noticeably smaller than Elba, who is about the same height as the taller fellas in that photo above.

For all the jibes Turner seems to get for sporting too much manly face-furniture, Hiddles doesn’t look what one would call very Bond-like with his beard and flowing golden locks. Just sayin.

He's been sort of incognito with that look while hanging out under the radar in London for the past year. As you surmised earlier, he's probably reinventing himself.

Madden might be a bit short but acting wise so far he's the best suggestion imo. And while I don't find his face very Bondian he looks more like Bond than a lot of actors mentioned now and in the past as possible contenders.
