It was never possible to waste Clive Owen, there was nothing to waste.
he has possibly the dullest voice and delivery of any actor ever
Here is the latest photo of Madden standing next to Luke Evans and Tom Hiddleston - it's from last night at the GQ awards. Chadwick Boseman, Jeff Goldblum and David Haye are the others in the photo. Even accounting for camera angles (Hiddleston is a couple of inches taller than Boseman but doesn't look it in the photo), height will be an issue.
Now imagine him next to someone like Debicki.
I can just see this hitting the media circuit soon enough. "Should the next Bond be cut?"
Evans has a certain style.
As was Roger Moore in real life. He discusses it in his autobiography My Word is My Bond.
I have to admit that the photo lineup with Madden puts the kibosh on him being adequately tall enough for Bond. Oh well, back to Turner as my main candidate then.
Not saying for Bond necessarily. But he has a good presence - you notice him. I thought his character in the Hobbit or whatever it was, was very well played - lots of ambiguity.
Grown into his looks? Is that a euphemism for "old age?" ;)
This is what Pierce used to look like:
He certainly didn't need to grow into his looks! I doubt he's ever looked more handsome.
Let's face it - there's no younger British actor that looks as good as Pierce did back in his prime! Sure, it's a slightly superficial observation, there's more to Bond than his face, but Brosnan played Bond, he's one of the 'chosen six', so it's not unreasonable to compare future Bond actors with past ones.
Future Bond actor advert:
Bond actor wanted. Reasonable height. Acting ability helps. Doesn't need to be too good looking. Just enough to make Barbara Broccoli go "ooh, I like a bit of rough!"
:P
Connery looked great in his 20s and then went through a difficult patch before emerging rejuvenated in older age.
Rog looked great in his younger and middle years and then lost it in later life. In terms of looks, that is.
Brozza has aged well is what I'm saying. And I personally think his face is more 'interesting' and characterful now.
Brosnan was always a very good looking fella. That was never his problem. I prefer young Pierce frankly. He had an edge in all the 80s shows I've seen of him, and particularly The Noble House and The Fourth Protocol. Much as I like Dalton these days, I think Brosnan would have nailed it had he been cast after Moore.
I never understood the appeal of Owen.
@bondjames why would Bond's height narrow the casting choice of villains? Surely villains, whether brutish enforcers or Main villains can be taller than him.
Haven't all Craig's villains been approximately the same height, slightly taller or slightly shorter than him? It can't be a coincidence after 4 films. I'm pretty sure the same has applied to other actors in the past. Let's see with B25 - I bet you the same holds true. It will impact the Bond girls for sure.
I think Bond villains should be superior to Bond. In intellect for the main villain and in strength for the main henchman. Or both if the main villain is a capable fighter. So I don't mind at all a taller villain. Or a taller M.

MAX PAYNE 3
My goodness he does look small.
Bottom line though is this guy isn't the biggest. I saw him in Bastille Day aka The Take and he was noticeably smaller than Elba, who is about the same height as the taller fellas in that photo above.
Well he was this ,so his height is perfect :
Haha, good point!
Haha! Goldblum must be any talk-show host's dream guest :))
