I find the Corinne/dog chase theme to be one of Barry's very best.
Mine too. It's a classic, and dare I say it is Barry's crowning achievment.
Until recent times, I always considered it a good score. But I really get it now. I think it might just be the best one of them all.
As far as Bond goes it's the bench mark and as far as an action score I don't think it's has a rival. The ability to create melodic, memorable and exciting music to accompany a film it has no peers.
That coupled with also being able to deliver on the atmospheric tense elements as well as heatbreaking romantic cues it just astounds me how right Barry got it here.
Bond scores while still quality were all downhill from here, no slight on them it's just a masterpiece and likely to be ever rvialed again.
It's one of the strongest reasons that this film is held in such high regard and has endured better than most of the films that followed it.
Lion In The Winter is another favourite as well.
What's great is that the score is just as awesome by itself, as it is during the film. The romantic scenes are well accompanied - as always w/ Barry - but I also feel like the action gets boosted immensely, so he ticks all boxes. I forget how much input he had into "Where Has Everybody Gone?" but I love the snazzy sound of it too.
I must have played it at least 200 times in 1987/1988 alone.
By now it must exceed 1'000 times, that's quite certain. So it is probably even the most played album I have ever owned.
AVTAK has danger, romance and the added bonus of the title track blasting out when the needle first hits the groove. It's an exciting soundtrack.
FRWL would be a key one for me because I love that film so much. 'James Bond is Back' is absolutely amazing. I love Spectre Island - I really wish they'd kept that as Spectre's theme throughout the Connery/Lazenby era. It's distant, sinister and mysterious. Love it. Actually the sense of exotic mystery throughout the soundtrack adds to the atmosphere. Of course it has the wonderful 007. And I like the crooning of Matt Munro. I recognise this is purely subjective - but it's one of my favourite soundtracks because I'm transported to that wonderful film every time I listen to it.
I keep them in the car so I can have Bond playing two and from work!
The Barry score I've played the most is probably TLD.
Non-Barry: LALD, FYEO and GE.
Those are the Bond OST's I listen to the most.
Agreed. That was a nice touch.
I can empathise with the organisation of CDs! I did a similar thing with iPod. Had three playlists. One with all my favourite tracks in order of their significance to me - one with just instrumental songs - no title tracks. And the third an exercise work out playlist I stupidly called 'Gyms Bond'. It has all the tunes that get the blood flowing - OHMSS title track, You Know My Name, Bond 77, Golden Gate Fight, James Bond is back, Live and Let die and for that final push I have 'Dawn Raid on Fort Knox' - it has the building pace and urgency, I love the instrumentation used on this.
'Dawn Raid on Fort Knox' is one of my favourite Barry tracks!
I was playing it in the car once and my wife proclaimed, "This is boring..."
I almost punched her.... X(
