@ToTheRight , don't dismiss Zimmer outright. He can be very versatile outside of the superhero realm. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I have no doubt that if he got Bond the film will benefit from it.

True. He's done a lot of films and has had a long career. One never knows. He could be the composer to really Bond right if he were offered the gig.

Still can't remember a tune from SF, and I've heard through that soundtrack so many times. Like SP it just feels a bit flat to me, and distant – if that makes sense.
I enjoyed SF's score, but I can understand where you're coming from. It lacked punch but I found it quite good in the details. Newman's strengths are the polar opposite of Arnold's in my view. A combination of the two could create a near perfect Bond sound.

If SF was left alone,it would have just been a weak Bond film score, but the film makes up for it....to add SP has demeaned that very good Bond film, the most grossing ever...
I agree. The same goes for Mendes. He would have been far better off to have stopped with SF, and I'm sure he realizes that. This is why I thought he would come back to redeem himself and go out "on a high". ;)

He fell out with Daniel,so that would be the end to that .
Daniel said he'd "work with [Mendes] tomorrow" during an interview at the time of SP's release. I don't think anyone fell out other than some bickering on set.

Bond definitely need a bit of punch in the scores. Hollow sounds doesn't suit Bond as much as it can for other films. I was excited about Newman doing a Bond score at first, but after listening to his work with SF/SP, one can understand why he's a better match with dramas than spy thrillers.

Regarding a score, I'll be happy as long as we get an exciting one. Haven't had that since Arnold, so there's nothing strange about wanting him to return. Zimmer is not my favourite, but certain scores of his are quite good. I just hope that whoever ends up making the score for Bond 25 makes something that is memorable. Still can't remember a tune from SF, and I've heard through that soundtrack so many times. Like SP it just feels a bit flat to me, and distant – if that makes sense.

Yes , makes sense. I savour very little from either Newman score, yet both CR & QoS to my mind, do have a distinct sound. Like the Bond classics of old these first two re-boot-era films do have their own recognizable sound.

As for Bond theme, blast the hell out of it. Always!

Agree. Arnold found a sweet spot with those two scores. Hopefully we can get something like that with B25. As for the Bond theme, one would love having it played in all it's glory at least once per film, with some hints of it – along with bits of the theme song a few places. Doesn't need to be much, just a little bit here and there.

I don't care who does the music, so long as the Bond theme is used properly. One of the most instantly recognisable themes, and they only use a few bars through the film, and the full theme over the end credits. Isn't it time that the baby and the bathwater were put back in the bath? Yes, yes is the answer.
I couldn't disagree with you more. The use of the Bond theme was perfect in CR and SF, but I want even less Bond theme in the next few Bond films. The Bond franchise will go on forever. Why can't we have a few official Bond films that don't feature the Bond theme at all?

No @bondjames, Mendes is a very smart man and will not return to Bond in this time line. He made one extraordinary film, and one that was sub-par (that, according to rumours, he wanted to leave anyways).

He should be rewarded excellence for salvaging the disaster that SP was evolving in to.

But my intuition tells me SM may return, just not in the DC era...

I agree. A lot of what makes that film tolerable for me is down to the surreal visuals.

I've said this many times, but for me it's not about the use of the Bond theme so much as it is a matter of reimagining it and incorporating it in an interesting way into an original composition. This is something Barry was just so good at.

Martin, Hamlisch (Bond 77), Conti (Submarine) and even the maligned Serra (Goldeneye Overture) did it so well.

Newman did it superbly in the SP PTS.

I'd much rather hear that than the actual standard theme blaring away at full blast like it did in FRWL when Bond was in his hotel. Even Barry didn't do that later in his tenure. From TB onwards he incorporated it into an original melody (sometimes giving it the flavour of the film or the scene's theme, as he did with the 'howling wind blown' version during the hovercraft sequence in DAF). Just masterful stuff.

Agreed, completely. What we need is more unique usage of the theme in the next score. I'd love to see arnold return, though I wouldn't be entirely opposed to newman, so long as he doesn't recycle again. Also as much as I love all of arnold's bond scores (those with heavy bond theme usage and those without), he shouldn't return to tnm/ twine in this regard, though he should use it more than in cr/ qos.

@bondjames: we know Babs seems like a hard, but loyal person; Mendes delivered a huge hit for her, and saved a troubled production right after.

He had/has nothing more to give to the Craig era, but I can’t believe that Babs sees no value in him— he was a warrior for her.

I could definitely see her bringing him back for the intro of Bond 007.

Interesting thought @peter. I had never considered that possibility before. If he wants it, she would probably consider him for B26, you're right. It could make a marketing splash too.

@Ottofuse8, I agree. Much as I'd rather Arnold not return, if he was to, I'd prefer if he tried to compose more interesting melodies in order to incorporate the Bond theme into. I have never been satisfied with his attempts in this respect, although he tried to do it during the Brosnan years.

David Holmes is composer of couple Steven Soderbergh movies and did also music for that '71 movie. Soderbergh also working before with Thomas Newman.

Or there will go for Yann Demange or Steven Soderbergh as directer of Bond 25 / 26, possible Thomas Newman wil stay as David Holmes wil be a producer of the title song and he and the directers think Newman is better composer of the two.

The goodnews be if David Holmes work on the title song, this time it can be part of music much more then with Skyfall and Spectre. Second Biggest failer of Thomas Newman.
Biggest problem i see is his first failer because he presser of making new music, inspecialy if David Holmes, producers and directer have disagree. Yann as directer and let David Holmes let doing his thing be better option, whyle Soderbergh have made more movies.

What Bond 25 need is David Arnold with Soderbergh and David Holmes mix. So focus can be on the script and trust him enough show some respect for Newman work. Or Newman stay, with Soderbergh and no David Holmes.

Any chance Villeneuve can do a fun, entertaining Bond, without personal dramas? Don't know any of his films, or his style of filmmaking; just feel Bond needs to be more fun again.
I've not seen it from him, but I think he is very versatile and so will be able to do whatever the producer/co-producer (and actor) ask him to do. They are the ones who will dictate where this goes for now. I don't think it will be 'fun' in the light hearted old school sense because that's just not the way they've developed this iteration of the character (this is the Craig Bond after all).

B26 is where the real shakeup occurs tonally, for better (in my view) or for worse.

@bondjames This is one of the things that has really frustrated me about this era. They are completely shackled to one style and tone.

The series always worked better when we had regular shifts in tone, it helped keep things fresh. FRWL-GF. YOLT-OHMSS. MR-FYEO...I think you get my drift. To have four, and now most likely five films that all roughly have the same tone is too much.

What felt fresh as a daisy in 2006 with CR now feels very, very stale.

    Great post. Agree entirely.

@GetCarter Thanks, appreciate that and I am glad someone agrees!

@Dennison I would personally like to see something of the tone of Thunderball or Goldeneye. Not full blown 'epic' in the vein of YOLT or TSWLM. As much as I love those two it would be too jarring!

Denis Villeneuve used Jóhann Jóhannsson for Score on 3 movies previously, when it came to Blade Runner he opted to go for Zimmer

    Denis said:
"The thing I will say is that making movies is a laboratory. It’s an artistic process. You cannot plan things. Jóhann Jóhannsson is one of my favorite composers alive today. He’s a very strong artist,” Villeneuve told Al Arabiya English. “But the movie needed something different, and I needed to go back to something closer to Vangelis. Jóhan and I decided that I will need to go in another direction"

But if it is Villeneuve who is confirmed Directing I would put my money on him to return to Jóhann Jóhannsson for Score.

My feelings are the same. There are a wealth of reasons as to why Spectre disappointed me but one of them was that it was the perfect opportunity to go a little more over the top, a little lighter and they didn't take it. There were touches - the couch landing, the old Italian driver, the crater base and Goldfinger's car coming to pick them up. But they had to weigh it down with foster brothers and Madeleine Swann saying 'I love you' and decisions between love and duty - it felt like a film trying to break free into epic frivolity - but being restrained by attempts to plumb emotional depths. I actually liked Craig's performance and felt that he was aiming for Connery cool and if the narrative had let him he could have got there. The end of SF is perfectly set up to lead into any direction toward DN or TB or OP - yet they went for more of the same.

I know that B25 will be more of the same too. So my expectations are more tempered than after SF's exhilarating ending. I'll enjoy the hell out of B25 and I'm grateful that Craig is back for one more - but I'm really curious to see where they go from B26 onwards.

I'm exactly the same. I can't wait for them to throw down the marker again and show everyone what they're made of. B26 (hopefully during the 60th anniversary) is the one I really await with interest.
