I don’t hate Newman by any stretch but he really is lesser compared to Arnold.
    I would go as follows
    Background Score:
    CR:10
    QOS:10
    SF:6
    SP:2

Happy with new composer, probably ... upon his previous work, of course. But I wouldn't mind Arnold returning. I thought Boyle was actually confirmed? So not yet, just seems strongly implied. Ok - I hope he is.

    And that is one opinion.
TND resurrected the Bond score ; his next two were very good. if not great. CR was spectacular, and captured the essence of Bond while being fresh. QoS built on that.
Given another go, Arnold would again resurrect the Bond sound track.
Isn’t that a recurring theme of Craig’s Bond,

    Resurrection?

That is some good drugs you are on. CR swapped the musical Bond identity to elevator music, something so generic it could be used on any other movie. No power and no identity at all in both CR & QoS.

Mr Arnold is able to copy Barry very good but has nothing new to add when he can create his own stuff. I do hope that EON invest in a real composer that can bring back some musical greatness.

As for Newman he was even beyond boring, his nomination can only be called politics and good friends because the soundtrack was even less entertaining or impressive than the Craig soundtracks by Arnold..

Both Michael Kamen and Éric Serra's scores were certainly better than Newman's efforts.
Not sure I'd go that far. It's close but at the end of the day SF has some excellent parts that surpass just repeating the Bond theme over and over and over again or laying a 70's porn track over the action.
Nothing tops laying a 70´s porn track over the action.

    I would say:

    CR: 9
    QOS: 10
    SF: 7.5
    SP: 5

QOS is the most impressive Bond soundtrack I can think of since John Barry was around.

I rewatched happy and glorious. In hindsight, it’s really not good. I realize it’s for the Olympics but I hope not to see that directorial style showcased in the short film, in B25.

Btw, did somebody have a verssion of Happy and Glorious without the commentary of the presentators ?

+1 i am looking everywhere myself.
By the way, i would love a bond movie in that tone, not that it's ever gonna happen. Same with the Heineken commercial that Dan did in 2015 with the Boat chase.

I'm a bit surprised by the positivity towards the Boyle/Hodge scenario on here. Personally I'm excited - but the whole we've got a 'great idea' suggests we're not going to get the vanilla, by-the-numbers entry some on here have been clamouring for.

I found TND's score bland and unoriginal, with the notable exception of the PTS. DAD's is just awful. I'm sorry, I hate that score. Too techno form my taste. It gets lost. I don't think he resurrected anything. I like better what he's done outside the Bond franchise.

I think we need something different again. SP tried too hard to be a classic Bond film and much of it didn’t work so well. I think it just doesn’t mesh as well with Craig’s grit.

If Boyle is indeed going to to it (depending on how the script is received, apparently), then at least we should have a stand-alone film with none of the SPECTRE bollocks of trying to tie previous films into it.
    A fresh start please Danny…

Danny Boyle promises his Bond girl with reflect the MeToo era
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/2018/03/16/danny-boyle-promises-bond-girl-reflect-metoo-era/

    Interesting comments.

Bond is a misogynist who regularly takes advantage of women in the course of his work. It'll be interesting to see how Boyle will tackle this idea. Will we betting more of Boyle's social realism? Perhaps 007 has to go to a disciplinary hearing with MI6's HR department after complaints of his inappropriate behaviour.

    That's a joke, of course.

But I'm curious how they go with the next film. Personally, I don't think a 50 year-old Daniel Craig should be depicted having a relationship with a 20/30 something. If he is to have a love interest, the actress should be age appropriate.

Despite all the hype surrounding Monica Bellucci's casting, the relationship with Lea Seydoux was slightly creepy. She was too young for him, her character was basically an echo of Vesper and she was a daughter of a man Bond had tried to kill for 10 years.

I hope that after Spectre that they all realise that Craig just doesn't do light hearted comedy very well'.

I also hope that this supposed wonderful script doesn't involve all the staff in MI6 out in the field. Keep them all confined to their damn offices! :)

Does Boyle know his Bond history? For me that’s a must for all directors directing Bond.

Directed London Olympics opening ceremony in which he came up with the idea to have Dan parachute in with the Queen.

Wonder if he will consider Daniel Pemberton who did the score for Boyles Steve Jobs film.
Pemberton also recently did the work on The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

I believe the offending track in question is 'Ladies First' from GE. While I'll admit that there is a bit of sleaze in it, I've always maintained that it is perfectly appropriate for the scene and to introduce Xenia. After all, hard sex is her weapon of choice. The way Sera segues it into the Bond theme is superb.

The positivity is on account of the huge demand for 'change'. It's been underestimated by EON. Change more and you'll get even more enthusiasm out there in the broader market imho. I don't think anybody has been calling for vanilla or 'by-the-numbers', at least as far as I can tell. On the contrary, there has been a call for a return to form, which means less personal b/s, less rogue, and more of a straight mystery mission done well with superior action and dialogue. That is still the hope although I'll admit it's perhaps less likely with Boyle. At least the end of the P&W era may herald something a bit lighter.

It shouldn't be too difficult for him. Campbell/France dealt with it perfectly well 23 years ago already. Just watch GE and give us a bit of Natalya.

#MeToo is bound to raise it's purdy little head in Bond 25 I guess.

Having said that, on reflection Honey, Pussy, Aki, Kissy, Tracey, Tiffany, Mary, Anya, and Holly were all independent, strong women (at least at the start) who mostly crumbled once JB got his mits in them...and this is only the 60s and 70s. The list goes on.

Melina, Octopussy, Stacey, Pam, Wai Lin, Electra, Christmas, Jinx, Miranda, Vesper, Camille and Madelaine were mostly wealthy or career women.

Very, very few of Bond's women were as helpless and exploited as say Solitaire or Domino.

To fabricate gossip and disguise it as news is one thing, but to fabricate a quote and attribute it to an actual person is prohibited amongst journalists. No journalist worth his salt wants to find themselves in the middle of an injunction. I believe the quote to be 100% accurate.

How many questions will Arnold get about Boyle etc at the 20th March event?
«When asked if his Bond Girl would be befitting of the current climate, Boyle said: “You write in real time. You acknowledge the legacy of the world [of Bond] and you write in the world – but you also write in the modern world as well.”»

His comments were quite general, though. Sure we'll get a strong independent female character, just like Bond films always have.

That's pretty much what I got from the article. I wonder what kind of name Boyle's leading lady will get. A more common name like Camille, or will he go all out with a Xenia Onatopp/Holly Goodhead?

I will concede that the Bond theme is the backbone of Kamen's LTK score, but there's plenty of musical material that doesn't use it. There are many suspenseful, restless cues that while not too melodic (not that they have to be), are fairly compelling and, dare I say it, Bondian-sounding. There's also a love theme, although it's not used too much. But most importantly, the score feels appropriate for the film, Bondian, lively and energetic.

    ---

Regarding Boyle and Hodge's "great idea," while it's true it possibly won't provide a basis for a by-the-numbers Bond film, personally, I'm more interested in the style and tone of the film, and I think that is an area where there can be a return to the traditional, even within the framework of a new story idea.
