I just realized that ends of decades normally mark tonal shifts (at the very least) when it comes to Bond films.

1969 to 1971 - marked a significant shift between OHMSS and DAF, as well as an actor change.

1979 to 1981 - marked a shift back to less fantastical and more low key fare as we transitioned from MR to the down to earth FYEO.

1989 to 1995 - saw a major rethink and an actor shift again, as well as a whole new team.

1999 to 2002 - was the only time they didn't really change much, perhaps because Brosnan had only started 7 years prior and so it was too soon to change directions. It could also be on account of Babs still learning the ropes and/or wanting to do the anniversary year film.

2008 - 2012 - there was a definite shift in approach here, at least in terms of going away from the edgy reboot iteration and more towards the classic cinematic interpretation of Bond, replete with traditional supporting characters.

2015 to 2020 - what do they have in store for us this time after the prolonged five year wait I wonder? I'm quite curious to find out as they've been especially tight lipped about everything this time around.

I just read on James Bond Wiki that the only films that feature the Walther PPK with the noise suppressor attached are FRWL, TB, TLD, GE , TND and SP. The site/author explains that DN (in which Bond attaches the silencer in order to shoot Professor Dent) was not included because, though called a PPK in the film, the model that actually appears on screen is a larger form of the Walther (Iam not that much of an expert that I can verify this myself). I found all of that very interesting.

Where was the suppressed PPK in SPECTRE? It's been bothering me trying to remember lol. Do you mean the scene when Bond kills the henchmen behind Monica Bellucci offscreen?

I guess that would be it. I wrote that post awhile back.

Yeah I was just browsing the forum but I felt like I observed recently that Casino Royale is the only film where Bond uses a suppressed pistol-at least that I can remember but then I forgot about that scene from SPECTRE, although it is shot from like a distance, kind of unfocused so you can't blame me for forgetting lol

What Bonjames said reminded me, there will have only been two bond films in the 2010 decade...... that’s terrible.

Remember when it was reported that Bond 24 and Bond 25 would be released in 2014 and 2016? Ahh simpler times.

Remember when people used to say “ ay it’s gotta be a two year cycle”

Now we’re like just release a bond film eventually and don’t sell the franchise or kill the character

Small bit of trivia: I just realized, after 58 years of making these films (as of 2020), B25 will be the first Bond film released in a year ending in '0'. Fancy that.

It's an interesting trivia, actually – also when you consider the films that were released at the very end of a decade - '69, '79, '89 and '99.

They will with B25. It was definitely worth a five year wait for that.

It was probably the main motivation for the delay.

I don't see why people are so bothered by the four month delay. The fact that it took four years to get here is bothersome, but I'd much rather have a four month add-on than a rushed, confused mess of a script just because they had to meet the release date. It's a blessing, believe me. And 4 years and 4 months is not 5 years.

No, I'm bothered by a four or five year delay. If you want to parse the years into months or increments, that's the case for several films in the series that we just round off (for instance TMWTGG to TSWLM is 2 and 1/2, yet we always say 3). The point is that anything past three is absolutely ridiculous and adding any number of months past an already extremely long delay is annoying and unacceptable. This lack of preparation or foresight (as in potential delays and problems) on EON's part is disheartening and avoidable.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yeah it’s not about 4 years or 4.25 years, it’s about being more than 3 in ththe first place

Again nothing to do with the thread.
  • There's this one fighting move Bond has used in a number of the films going back to Sean Connery where he grabs onto a ledge above him and swings and kicks his opponent.

Sean Connery uses it against Red Grant in From Russia with Love

Timothy Dalton uses it breaking out of the Afghan base in The Living Daylights

I'm pretty sure Pierce Brosnan used it against Gustav Graves or his men in the plane at the end of Die Another Day

Also pretty sure Daniel Craig uses it against Hinx on the train in SPECTRE.

That's just off the top of my head, I have to rewatch the films again.

I can't be the only one who's noticed this and it has to be an intentional reference on the part of the filmmakers.

Nope, you're not the only one. Moore also used it twice in TSWLM, and something similar in LALD.

I’ve noticed that for a long time. Immediately when I first saw Craig attempting the maneuver in SP, I thought of Connery in FRWL. Dalton’s in TLD at the jail is also definitely like it.

Signature Bond move there. Just spotted Brozza doing this is TND, on the stealth boat (outside) immediately after Wai Lin is captured.

The first of many hotel receptionists to do that. And they say its men who ogle :)

I mentioned in the Bondathon thread something I saw for the first time in Dr No. During Bond and Sylvia's flirty card game the man sitting to Sylvia's left hilariously over-acts throughout. I've never noticed him before, but it was laugh out loud funny.

"Johnny what have you done with it?!" Her somewhat anxious tone here always gets me. I always took it as a reflection of her trying to impress Bond by showing that she's efficient and on top of her staff.

Just watched the scene () and that is utterly hilarious!

Except that I don't think I'm ever going to be able to un-see it...

LOL I just looked this scene up in Tomorrow Never Dies and I forgot that Wai Lin gets captured twice on the stealth boat. Amateur.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but in FRWL after Bond playfully slaps Tatiana's behind in the carriage, she glances in the mirror and looks straight into the camera for a split second.
