I'm not really a gun person to be honest, but I do recognise Bond's gun by its size and the look of it.
Would that be too closely tied to the character to retire it?
I'm afraid the smoking and "man's man Bond" is what we can forget. Like it or not, they aren't going to jump back in that pool any time soon, what with the current climate and all.
I must say though, if Bond had never driven a car in the movies before and I had to pick a brand today for him to drive, it would still be Aston Martin. They really are perfect for each other.
Although I do like the new Lotuses: the Emira is wonderful.
Cubby had to promise Fleming to use only the title, not the novel as such. And I think, EON will keep their word (at least until Disney or another studio buys up EON and tries to wrench the last of drops out of the franchise). Also it would only make sense if they go for a period 50's style Bond. Apart from the fact, that movigoerts, who are not ardent Fleming connoisseur, might go "Another TSWLM movie? We had the movie. The one with Jaws, the Pyramides, etc.".

I hope it’s an ethnic actor to see what your reaction will be.
Yes, probably a bit click baity. We have similar versions of this story with Elba. This one below was from earlier this year and uses exactly the same quotes from him and BB...

Anyway, as is the case with Bond most of the time, I suspect if an actor is being talked about in the press this early they likely won't get it. Like I said in another thread though, I can definitely see Elba being cast as M...
Or they might reflect after 45 or so years, a remake isn't unexpected. Amazing restraint, even.
If there's any film I would dig a second version of it's Never Say Never Again.
Wouldn't it just be a loose remake of TB in that case?
I really don't understand what is so hard to grasp here. I've had heated discussions with a friend who also can't get his head around Bond dying. They will just reboot the franchise and a new Bond will be introduced, as has always happened. There will be no reference to Bond's death and no continuation, and I'm sure most of us would want it this way.
Bond 26 will serve as a new film that doesn't address what went on in the previous film and it'll probably act as if nothing happened, business as usual.
New man, new timeline. Simple
A bit like NTTD, OHMSS wasn't exactly a small scale Bond adventure. It's long, has a good few locations, a number of high stakes action/chase sequences etc. DAF to me always felt a bit more 'grounded' as a plot during its first two thirds. Bond is investigating a diamond smuggling operation at the beginning, not the big baddie that is SPECTRE. A lot of the film feels strikingly 'film noir'-esque in how Bond goes about his job, as is the case with the characters, the dialogue etc. It slowly becomes more fantastical the more Bond gets involved in the plot, which is also the case with something like DN and LALD...
Ok, the tone is sometimes off, and there are some weird choices... but a Bond 26 that is broadly more low key but willing to embrace those fantastical elements might not be all that bad if done right...

What's the insinuation here? That's quite a ridiculous assumption based on my comment.
Yes, he's been suggested on these forums in the past as a potential Bond. I think he's a good choice. He reminds me a lot of Craig and Elba as an actor. My only issue with him is perhaps he'd play the role a bit too similarly to Craig when they need a fresh take on the character. Still, they could certainly do worse.
In the scene, some very dangerous men surround him and ask him to come outside with them.
He's surrounded, and you see this character's brain doing the math: what are the chances of survival...
During these few moments, I definitely was taken out of the film and a very conscious thought buzzed through my head: that's what James Bond should be.
I didn't see an actor, or a skin colour; all I saw was a a scene bursting with one man's charisma, style, genuine alpha male who is charming, handsome and dangerous...
Denzel is one of the greatest film stars ever, with talent to match. He was only in his early 30s during this project... My god, if the producers could bottle up what he had (and still has), and inject it into the next guy...
This kind of charisma and charm and danger and masculinity is something one is born with. You can't "act" these intangibles... They're innate.... Connery and Craig had this (the others had "something", just not as complete as Denzel, Sean and Dan)....
I just haven't seen these traits in some of our "top contenders", and probably why I'm actually quite high on Sope (with reservations (one, I worry he'd be too close to Craig; two, he's not as polished as an actor... But he is magnetic, alpha, natural and great physically))...
"Idris Elba is too old to be cast as Bond." says fan forum moderator.
And @Creasy47 is certainly owed an apology... I have no idea how his comment was misconstrued...
