I do wonder if there are problems (if only minor) between Amazon and EON. This is the second interview with them were Barbara has stated Bond being made for the big screen experience, it's quite telling that both times were unprompted.
I wonder if EON and Amazon have differing opinions on it?

Producer Barbara Broccoli said there is “a big road ahead” before the character is “reinvented for the next chapter”, and that executives “haven’t even begun” the process of modernising the franchise.

Seems to me "haven't even begun" more than likely speaks to the enormity of the task. Rather than literally not having started actions.

For those of us over a certain age, time is a factor. I’m 60, the way things have gone this may be my last Bond actor; with that said it’s a reason to let them take the time to get it right. Although, time is no guarantee.

    Barbara and Michael are older.

Right, but when they pass on the will pass Bond on. When I pass on , game over; I want as much Bond before that happens.

I think we can safely say 2025 is out of the picture. 2026 is now the "hopeful" year for a new film, and as the months tick by 2027 starts to look more feasible - a film along with the 65th anniversary celebrations and a new bluray boxset.

Why? Going by their usual schedule they wouldn't start work on it until early next year for a 2025 release. Aren't you just been a tad pessimistic? I wouldn't start getting concerned unless nothing starts happening next year. It's really premature to be saying that it's looking like a 2027 release - you would be looking at starting pre-production early 2026 for that - for a late 2027 release.

Patience is a virtue. What is it with all the whining - were Bond fans like this between DAD and CR?

These amazingly long delays between films are hard to imagine. It's not like they don't have a formula for these. Pathetic IMO.

Quantum was 2 years after, orginally was going to be May 2008. Skyall would have been a 3 year gap if it wasn't for MGM's troubles. Spectre was planned to be 2 years after Skyfall - No Time to Die got hit by a global pandemic - there have been extenuating circumstances during the Craig era.

I don't remember it because at least they were still trying to move on. There was news, rumors, a Bond game that played like a film, Brosnan is in, he's out, other casting rumors.

Here now today. is just we don't know what we're doing or where we're going. Nothing has been discussed like its not two fucking years since the last film.

We don't know where to take the character. Then don't kill him off then and paint yourself into a corner.

Do you think Micheal G Wilson will have a credit like Cubby had on Goldeneye? He'll be roughly the same age as Cubby was back then.

It's possible, but there is a big road ahead before Michael G. Wilson's credit is decided for the next film. Executives haven’t even begun the process of making that decision.

In my opinion I'd be less anxious about the wait for Bond 26 had we not waited years for NTTD (most of which was out of EON's control) and had I enjoyed NTTD more

I've got to say, you have a point. They kill the character off, then two years later say "we haven't even started the next one yet".
In fact, when was the last Bond film supposed to premiere? Wasn't it March or April 2020? So we're actually three and a half years down the pike, and they haven't even started on it?
Perhaps the movie Bond really is dead?

They could not have started work on 26 when the entire industry was upended by a pandemic, or after MGM went broke (again) and went through a extensive merger. Amazon just, as of two weeks ago, finished integrating MGM into their apparatus.

Four years almost to the day when they wrapped NTTD- I think it was Oct 19 of '19. OK, I'll give you the Covid delay. But it's not like they didn't know at the time they were gonna need a new guy. They did. So that's FOUR YEARS of knowing we need a new lead. Two years since the release of NTTD. They paint themselves into a corner and NOW say they "Oh we haven't even started but here's a lame REALITY SHOW.'

What? There is no way to defend this pattern of thinking. In the TikTok era, you move fast or you die. Too much multi-media competition. Barb has lost touch of the market.

Based on discussion here regarding box office for Indiana Jones and M:I, is this a good time to ramp up a Bond production?

    Why should they?

They didn't paint themselves into a corner. Whether Bond died or not, they'd still be looking for a new actor and it would be taking just as long.

They painted themselves into a corner. How ya gonna explain he died, and now he's, um, not dead? There's no franchise that treats the fanbase worse.

Reboot. A new Bond in his own continuity, just like Craig's era was.

Are you really going to go and watch a new Bond film and sit there in the cinema constantly saying ‘what?! But he’s dead!! How can he be alive!!!!’?

Out of interest, how did you cope when Felix turned up in CR with two legs?

They knew they needed a new Bond, but they still had a movie to promote and release, and there’s not much point in casting someone three or four years before production, as situations change, they may not be available, and you need a script to cast someone.

How: Bond's tissue washes to sea, feeds on plankton, reconstitutes hisself.

But he may become a behemoth.

It's a good point. Big difference with Bond is the reinvention. It's not Tom Cruise or Harrison Ford. It's Bond. The actor brings themselves to the role but the actor is not the role. Making B26 feel new a la "Casino Royale" or "GoldenEye" is the key to keeping Bond on top for another era.

“Our focus is making the feature films. When we get going on a Bond movie it takes our full attention for three or four years so that’s our focus."

This ^ part, because she is speaking in the present tense. Meaning, there is obviously plenty going on. For all we know there could be a nearly complete script outline and they just need to modernize the language, fashion, sensibilities, character interactions, etc.

I am very happy to wait even 5 more years if Bond 26 will be written and directed by Nolan. Waiting is fine if you are wating for something that's worth waiting for. Now, I am not saying that Nolan is the only one that could make an excellent Bond 26, but I think no one else would have a better chance at succeeding.

All I really wanted to know was whether EON were waiting for the strikes to end to jump into high gear or whether they were in no rush to start the new film anytime soon. I think this comments confirm that we are going to be waiting a long time for the next film if its already been 2 years and they haven't even begun the process yet on Bond 26. I think another 6 year gap is probable, and at this point I'm preparing myself to not see the next film until 2027.
