I'm not even remotely surprised work hasn't started on another film.
If B26 were to be cancelled altogether, I wouldn't be surprised. I think NTTD was a great final film for the franchise. Besides, the characater goes public domain in 11 years. Doesn't matter. We'll get plenty of Bond movies then. :D :D :D

James Bond will remain a trademark of Danjaq/MGM indefinitely: this isn’t going to happen.

The copyright on Steamboat Willie expires soon, but if you think that means you’ll be seeing new adventures of Mickey Mouse made by people other than Disney unthreatened by legal action, you’re going to be let down! :) Their trademark on Mickey isn’t going anywhere.

Good comparison. That put a smile on my face. :)

Look at it this way folks. When the new film comes out, you’ll no longer be griping about how long it took to get there, you’ll gripe about new dozen things in Bond 26 like minute details of how they got the gun barrel wrong. ;)

I'm already excited to gripe about the gunbarrel, the new actor's gunbarrel pose, the color of the blood etc.

Anyway, might be more fun and less derivative if we discuss things we’d like to see in the next era?

For me, as I’ve mentioned before, I’d really like to see a proper femme-fatale in the vein of Fiona Volpe or Xenia Onatopp, which the Craig-era unfortunately never went for, with Valenka from Casino Royale being the closest we got.

Also I wouldn’t mind visiting Jamaica again.
I'd love to see another femme-fatale too, I wonder if they've avoided doing it because of some of the backlash to Severine's death in Skyfall?
Mmm it's hard to tell. It's been quite frustrating as someone who loves female villains and henchwomen to see them not be used at all or just sparingly in other franchises. I don't know if producers/writers think that it's not progressive enough or that those characters don't have enough depth so they feel the need to have those characters turn good at the end, which I think does the opposite and makes it seem like female villains can't see the job through which is ridiculous. For example, and I'll put in spoiler tags...
Pom Klementieff's Paris in Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One. I thought she was gonna be a really cool henchwoman but then they have this whole layer of her being saved by/saving Ethan, which just bored me, especially when henchwomen are so rare in that franchise.

Yeah that's true mate. There does seem a general reluctance to have Bond women die on screen in recent years.

I still think Nomi would have been a more interesting character if she'd been a double agent and then you'd have Bond vs 007 in the final act of NTTD.

…which I get to a certain extent. Sacrificial lambs can feel wasteful if not done right like Severine as you mentioned, but henchwomen/female villains are on another level and can often be the best thing about a film like Fiona Volpe.

And yeah that could have been interesting for Nomi if done right. I’ve also thought how you could’ve made Logan Ash and Paloma one character, with Paloma being the double agent. Although, at the same time, both those characters were some of the best bits of No Time To Die so I’m also happy the way it was done.

My message is simply don’t be afraid of female villains EON. They’re great and have been missing from the series for too long.

Is it that sexist that there are no female villains, like Bond were allowed to kill bad guys, but not bad women? Like all of the women should work at the good side (again, there's no problem with it), but having a female villain brings out the femininity, and because Bond is not allowed to do what he's doing to men in women?

Actually, Elektra King, Fiona Volpe, they're ahead of their time, showing independent women and just like any bad guys, they're killed, there's an equality.

Agreed, Paloma should've been a femme fatale, remove Logan Ash, I think that character mainly existed to kill Felix Leiter and have Bond his revenge moment (kinda forced).

And Nomi should've killed Paloma, if they want a more girl power moment, like have Nomi and Paloma in a shoot out and fight.

It would've been a classic shot when Paloma dropped the adorable girlishness and switched instantly to dead-eyed hardface. Especially if she'd then shot Felix.

Very true at the rate that EON is proceeding. Which also makes all the hypothesizing about what direction to take Bond in irrelevant at this point. We have no idea what the culture will be like several years from now. Bond bends toward cultural trends as opposed to fan requests.

But they won't make that decision several years from now. The movie will be released several years from now. The decision about what direction to take Bond in is either being made now or will be made very soon.

Based on what? All the indications are that things haven't gotten rolling yet, I'd love to see some movement but it's just not happening at the moment it seems.

Based on the fact that we are already 2 years after the release and 3 and a half years after the completion of NTTD. They aren't gonna wait even more years before deciding which direction to take the franchise in. For starters, Amazon won't just sit back and do nothing. They will start applying the pressure.

Yes, Amazon is like Disney buying Lucasfilm. They wanted a movie(s) as soon as possible to get a return on their investment. Amazon is going to want some type of progress in the next year or two from EON.

Who would've thought that restarting a franchise after blowing it all up actually isn't that easy, regardless of "continuity?"

But why would Amazon even want to wait that long. I agree with your theory that Amazon wants product but I don't understand why they would be resigned to waiting until EON is ready in a year or TWO.

'Blowing it up' made no difference, it would still have required a new direction and fresh thinking even if Spectre had been the last film.

Everyone assumes that Eon is the blockage, but we don't know if there's a reason that Amazon's takeover is stopping them from proceeding, potentially legal.

The tv programme is the compromise placeholder to keep Amazon from pressing for a new film, right?

A bloody piss poor placeholder. Even though I have Prime I have no interest in listening to the James Bond theme blaring over a reality streaming series.

I think the show would be good, I think it's well prepared enough, and of course, there's Brian Cox, who have that Bond villain style as the host to challenge the contestants.
I'm hoping it would be good, and would cover all of the Bond films (we know some Bond projects are always leaving some Bond films and just picking out the iconic ones), hoping here, all of the Bond films would be covered.
