40 people have given full rankings for all 24 Bond movies including Spectre.

I have analyzed the rankings and compared Skyfall to Spectre as a first step:

28 rate SF in Top 10
28 rate SP in Top 10

15 rate SF in Top 5
15 rate SP in Top 5
you can say SF and SP are evenly loved in general and by a clear majority.

21 rate SF higher than SP
19 rate SP higher than SF
This shows again, that neither SP nor SF get a clear preference.

9 that rate SF Top 10 don’t rate SP Top 10
9 that rate SP Top 10 don’t rate SF Top 10
and again, the same amount of people have either only SF or SP in the Top 10

19 that rate SP Top 10 also rate SF Top 10
3 neither have SF nor SP in Top 10
a vast majority has at least one of them in their Top 10 or both and less than 10% have neither in the Top 10

I will add further full rankings to my Excel list and report if there is any notable change to these findings.

If someone has an idea what further could be analyzed just tell me.

The reviews for SP here are a lot more forgiving than the ones from pompous critics.

I'll probably put it around 7th or 8th, can't really be sure yet - I am of the opinion that you can't put a new entry into your ranking until at least year has passed and you've seen it a few times. Benefit of hindsight and all that.
QoS for instance is now quite a bit higher than I would have ranked the week after seeing it. SF is actually quite a bit lower...

Its number 11 right now with chances of leaving The spy who loved me out of my top 10.

    Still debating on that one.

You can slant these rankings anyway you like. @w2Bond has done some unbiased work on this, and it is clear that Spectre, although a popular film, is nowhere near SF.

I don t have an agenda with saying this as I love them both.

Hmm. I didn't see any slanting in his compilation of the rankings. It seemed an extremely objective look at numbers only.

I hate to break it to you, but w2bond's calculation was some time ago.

Spectre gets 344 points after 41 rankings, 8.39
Skyfall gets 352 points after 41 rankings, 8.58

The less points the better so Spectre (at the moment) is above SF.

I will give the full ranking of all Bond movies shortly.
I have no agenda as well by the way, but would never call your assessment slanted.

If so, that is good news. Maybe you noticed that I put SP at no. 2 and SF at no. 3 in my latest biased ranking?

Well you started with the "accusations" :))

I have to apologise to you though, I accidentally mixed up your rankings of SF and GE!
    nah..would never do such a thing :))

Well 3rd viewing in, and I still love Sp. So that's a good sign for future viewings. I think though I will leave it a no. 7 in my rankings. That's fair enough for me. I always try to pick out a small moment in a Bond movie that stays with me. In SP it has to be the trip in the rolls to Blofelds lair. Madeleine whispers to Bond "James, I'm scared!", and he takes her hand and gently squeezes it. Not quite up there with the shower scene from CR, but liked it!

I admit that I hate GE almost as much as @Birdleson hates Spectre. Which is worse in your opinion?

I respect you both a great deal, so I would not call any of your votes "worse" than the others.

But it escapes me that Spectre can be rated 24th.
With GE I can at least understand that if someone dislikes Brosnan that he would rank it that low and the other 3 as well therefore.

@Thunderfinger is cool and all, but the GE hating is simply a front: I've seen his place, it's filled with nothing but old cans of food and all of Brosnan's films (literally: all of them), posters, and a few cardboard standees of Broz.

Agree about the GE title sequence, maybe the best ever. As for the rest, good lord it was just a tad above DAD. But different strokes and all that...

I've still not seen SP (so can't rank it) but I did just take a look at its ranking on the Rotten Tomato website's James Bond countdown.

Folks, on that website, SP is rated lower than DAF! Clearly, these critic reviews must be reactionary -- SF fans venting their frustration. While I'm no big fan of SF, I refuse to believe that Logan/Mendez/Craig could have possibly delivered a worse Bond movie than DAF! I know DAF has its fans/defenders but most Bond fans (including myself) rate it the bottom of Connery's Bonds. Let me remind us of what DAF is...

DAF is the first self-parody, slap-stick Bond. Even Moore didn't step into self-parody until MR & OP -- and even then didn't fully embody it the way DAF does until AVTAK.

DAF is the movie in which Bond places his ID on a man he just killed, which causes Tiffany Case (the first, in the end, dumb/ditz Bond "girl" who spends too much time in a bikini) to exclaim, "You just killed James Bond!" To which Connery replies, "Is that who that was!? Just shows no one is indestructible."(!!) In other words, Bond, in this movie, is a world-renown celebrity! Gangsters in this movie utter lines taken straight from Bugs Bunny cartoons.

DAF is pure slapstick self parody. SP is worse than that!? Just goes to show the ridiculousness of "respected" movie critics in general (especially Bond movie critics) & the Rotten Tomatoes rating system in particular.

Not exactly hard to discredit pompous critics expecting every film to be SF. SP seems like a decent hit with fans and not so with critics. I wouldn't have it any other way.
  • SF for the critics, SP for the fans, but IMHO neither is a classic like FRWL or GF.
