I agree. Both overhyped imho....one by the critics & the general public......the other by the die-hard fans. Mendes has certainly left his mark. Now let's move on.
5. SF (684)
6. SP (670)
And combining with CBn (6) and AJB (11) for a total of 58
5. SF (962)
6. SP (947)
Median rank: SF (6) SP (7)
Average rank: SF (8) SP (9)
SF has the slight edge but it's too close to call, there's not enough rankings yet
Well, I'd put SF around 13th, and SP around 8th. Not sure if that changes things... :>
@AceHole probably not but I've got your latest ranking as SF 15th and SP 5th
Do it.
Are there really 10 better Bond movies than TSWLM...? Subjective sure, but I don't see it.
Ah, you took my 'tiers' a bit literally then, they weren't in any particular order.
I put SP in the first tier, yes, but it would have to be at the bottom...
Oh ok! Normally when I see a tier list the movies are arranged chronologically which means I don't add it in. I think your last rank was in 2014, do you have an updated one?
1. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
2. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
3. CASINO ROYALE
4. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
5. THUNDERBALL
6. GOLDFINGER
7. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
8. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
9. SPECTRE
10. DR NO
11. OCTOPUSSY
12. LICENCE TO KILL
13. QUANTUM OF SOLACE
14. SKYFALL
15. TOMORROW NEVER DIES
16. GOLDENEYE
17. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
18. MOONRAKER
19. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
20. A VIEW TO A KILL
21. LIVE AND LET DIE
22. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
23. DIE ANOTHER DAY
24. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
DN, FRWL, GF, TB, OHMSS, LALD, FYEO, TLD, LTK, CR, SF, SP.....I believe are all better than TSWLM (in my opinion).
Each to their own, of course :-\"
Think I'd leave out LALD! Does that mean TSWLM squeaks in?!
Not too much difference between the rank in your tier list and the numerical one, BUT the median of Spectre just dropped from 7 to 8...
How do you arrive at those numbers? @w2bond
My calculation is this.
Spectre gets 344 points after 41 rankings, 8.39
Skyfall gets 352 points after 41 rankings, 8.58
However, if I tried to figure on whether SP would be in my top 10 or bottom 10 it would probably edge into the top 10. Probably.
It's pretty futile I must say - exactly because you are comparing such different era's. I give it a go once a year. And then end up changing my mind a few hours after finalizing the list...
To me there are 8 'eras', of which SP has just started another...
DN to YOLT (formal & 'classic 60's' films, lots of British Empire influence)
OHMSS to TMWTGG (gone are the 'innocent' 60's - influenced by Vietnam, 'Free love')
TSWLM - MR (escapist & indulgent cinema post economic crisis, dawn of 'pop-movies')
FYEO to AVTAK (80's austerity, old values vs anti-establishment movement)
TLD - LTK (the Dalton years, obviously - post AIDS awareness, narcotics wars)
GE to DAD (90's affluence & carefree social economy)
CR to SF (post 9/11 paranoia, anti-hero's become heroes...)
SP to ...? (repeat of socio-economic state circa 1976... so another MR on the way :D )
It can't rank the Bond either. But I can try with shorter lists. For instance :
Fan-fiction Bond movies :
1. SP
2. ISON (In Service Of Nothing)
3. SF
And then again, I may swap 2 and 1 sometimes :) Experiment for the sake of it is good sometimes !
I really like LALD. Moore plays Bond rather than Moore. Great plot, score, villain, set pieces, not too much humour and sharks. Sheriff pepper and Kanagas death are low points.
Era 1 -- the balanced era -- DN thru YOLT
OHMSS is a stand alone -- the "wow, this really different era"
Era 2 -- the camp era -- DAF thru MR
Era 3 -- the serious era -- FYEO thru LTK (but excluding AVTAK)
AVTAK is a stand alone -- the absolute crap era
Era 4 -- the sorta-restored balance era -- GE thru DAD
Era 5 -- the drama era -- CR thru SP
SP is also basking in post-release glory here, and it's likely to fall a bit after a few months or years, as happened to SF, and will likely happen to Craig (and has been happening to Brozza for the last several years).
2.SPECTRE.
3.For Your Eyes Only.
4.The Spy Who Loved Me.
5.On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
6.Casino Royale.
7.The World is Not Enough.
8.Thunderball.
9.Dr. No.
10.Skyfall.
11.Live and Let Die.
12.From Russia With Love.
13.Quantum of Solace.
14.Tomorrow Never Dies.
15.Licence To Kill.
16.Moonraker.
17.Octopussy.
18.Goldfinger.
19.Diamonds Are Forever.
20.Die Another Day.
21.The Living Daylights.
22.A View To A Kill.
23.The Man With The Golden Gun.
24.You Only Live Twice.
1) Casino Royale
2) SPECTRE
3) Skyfall
4) Quantum of Solace
SPECTRE is highly fun! :D
Terrible soundtrack! But the movie itself is 10000000000000 light years better than Brosnan bond films imo! Walked out of his goldeneye!
