@SharkBait, I really like the idea of SPECTRE making demands (and threats of course) for the British to release Blofeld. Would put Bond in a sticky situation, as he facilitated Blofeld's capture and the blood spilled by the SPECTRE agents when the Brits refuse to negotiate would partially be on him.

Someone here also had the idea of the British government using Blofeld's connections and knowledge of underworld crime to their own benefit while he's imprisoned, giving him privileges because of the help he'd given them.

It'd be interesting to see that kind of thing unfold, since so much of the second half of the Craig era has been about Bond, M and the entire MI6 staff proving to their larger superiors in the government that they are viable and useful to the world. Mallory has already faced off with people in higher places who fail to see his side of things, so it'd be interesting to see him caught in the middle of the politics of it all amongst his more powerful colleagues, wanting to keep MI6 together and keep Blofeld locked away forever, but not wanting to go out of his way to sabotage his own government or act in a way that would put his head on a pike.

Something a like of Silence of the Lambs, crossed my mind. They kind of did that in Skyfall, but Silva's capture was deemed to be short lived. Again they would plagiarize themselves and every other movie since SotL
But if they kept Blofeld behind the bars for most of it's runtime, then it wouldn't wholly be like ST Into the Darkness or Avengers and what have you.

Not totally original, but the whole plot could still revolve around the fact that Blofeld has been captured, but Spectre still operating without their original leader.

I simply think Blofeld HAS to go underground again, hide into secrecy again, and become the puppet master again that we only saw a glimpse of in the first half of "SPECTRE". Blofeld needs to hide in secrecy. It's what gives Fleming's character soul, color, charisma and presence. Hence why I was rather gutted seeing Blofeld lying there, being picked up like a big catch for the British government. Never happened before in the Bond franchise, and I'd rather not like to see it again.

Hence why I think Bond #25 needs another SPECTRE-villain, a bit like Largo in "Thunderball", the up-front executioner of the entire diabolic scheme. And Blofeld? Devise a nice plot element so that MI6 thinks he's really dad, but in essence is still managing everything from behind the scenes. An important cameo for Christoph Waltz so to say, and Bond doesn't know anymore he's alive.

Moreover, I think Bond really needs a 'plain, solid, mission' again, without London as main location. We haven't seen Daniel Craig doing that. LET him do that. And perhaps take FRWL and TB into account by creating such a story.

No, but the last two films, SF and SP, had.

I really enjoyed seeing Bond at the home base of London so much in the Craig era, but it is also nice to see exotic things as well, for sure. I think the Craig era has found a nice balance in showing Bond as a man of the world while also connecting you to his roots and showing you first hand what he has to protect back home and why he fights for it so hard.

Sometimes the films will feature so little of London and Bond existing in it that he loses that connection of being a man of British intelligence, at which point he feels more like a gun-toting man without country. Getting to see him back home every once in a while in an era really solidifies him as a British agent and an icon of the nation he serves.

I think the Craig era has displayed this the best, and has really expended a lot of time and effort showing him as Britain's champion and protector of domestic concerns as well as foreign evils.

I totally agree,i remember seeing TWINE at the cinema and seeing the PTS of Bond on the Thames,Vauxhall Cross exploding in part, the millennium dome being involved...I was like "Wow Bond is doing battle in London itself !!"...

Hence the reason I still have a little special affection for that PTS.
  • TWINE to me is easily the best of the Brosnan's. Forget about some overlong helicopter raid sequences and one lackluster American Bond girl.

Make no mistake, Christmas Jones is as dumb and unconvincing as some of the more bimbo-esque bikini girls like Mary Goodnight and Tiffany Case. He'll, even Holly Goodhead, Kiss Suzuki and Anya Amapola on the whole I found rather poorly written or unconvincing due to poor acting.

No, what makes TWINE a highpoint to me is Mr Brosnan. He portrays the most vulnerable and emotionally realistic human assassin in TWINE. It's like a.....prelude to what Daniel Craig later would do much more convincing. Yet after DAD, TWINE to me is a highpoint.

Add to that the other Bond girl, Elektra King, and one can see that the Bond-King relationship is the most convincing of the Brosnan era. Sophie Marcha is a classically schooled French actress, just like Carole Bouquet, Eva Green, Lea Seydoux and Bereide Marlohe. She actually really portrays a convincing Stockholm Syndrome patient.

Hmmm 'Knew all about my shoulder' and pain face overload? Controversial.

Craig much more convincing....laughable. Craig is not a better actor than Brosnan, if anything he got better directors.

As for TWINE, it's the second most flawed movie of the series and only one of two that are hard to sit through for me. The other one, surprise surprise, is SF which is not much more than a rip-off and remake of TWINE with a hint at GE (Alec).

Although I'll grant you 'Mr White, of course!' is no better than 'knew all about my shoulder.'
  • Hello everyone? @TheWizardOfIce included off course ;-). Feel free to read my latest essay about Bond #25 on Spy Command Essays and Spy Command Blog.
image-bond-25.jpg. I used a bit of imagination in creating the Bond #25 header ;-).

Lots of thanks to Mr Bill Koenig. I am curious what you guys think of it, since it goes into depth of some scenarios. It took me a while to write, and probably my English is a but rusty in some parts. Have fun reading. Any comments on Bill's blog would be greatly appreciated.

Craig is pretty much the same in all his movies. He has ONE face expression and does the pain face perfectly. I haven't seen anything that suggests he is a better actor than Brosnan, Dalton or Moore.
Tell me one movie of Craig (outside Bond) where he is as good as Brosnan in The Matador, The November Man just to name a few.

Craig is fantastic physically though. Running, sweating, fighting, there he is better than all the others, even Connery.
Also he shines in Spectre were for the first time he actually is fully believable as Bond, probably because he copies Brosnan and Moore to some extend.

What is going on with this place lately? I'm going to stick to the Originals Thread and the Game/Stats threads for awhile.

Why are you saying that :-)? This is merely a poll topic. Trying to figure out what the forummembers really want, with some clearly defined poll options. It's interesting to look at the statistics so far and if forummembers are really tired of Daniel Craig or not. So far:

--> There's currently a majority of 66,0% who wants to continue the current Bond timeline that was initiated with "Casino Royale", with or without Daniel Craig (options A] & B]).

--> Looking only at the return of Daniel Craig, regardless of continuity (options A] & D]), there's a majority 64,2%.

--> Option C] -a brand new reboot with a completely new actor to play James Bond- is fairly impopular. On the whole, forummembers aren't at all enthusiastic about the prospect of a new Bond actor.

CONCLUSION: Basically people really want Daniel Craig to return. And there's also the feeling that the current Bond timeline shouldn't be swept away with another reboot.

CURRENT RESULTS (So far these are the results after 53 people have casted their choices):
    A]...56,6%..(30 voters)
    B]...09,4%..(05 voters)
    C]...26,4%..(14 voters)
    D]...07,6%..(04 voters)

Please make sure you only vote once. If you want to change your choice, then please amend it properly with a clear post stating your wish to change.

To make things a bit easier, here are one more time the four poll options:
A)...CONTINUE the current 'Bond Universe/Timeline' that was initiated with the 2006 reboot "CASINO ROYALE". Daniel Craig RETURNS as agent James Bond 007 for a 5th time.
    Further consequences of option A):
    - The 25th film and other future films will be LESS HEAVY on character background, chronology and continuity
    - (Some of) The other actors from the MI6-family RETURN: Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear (Jeffrey Wright)

B)...CONTINUE the current 'Bond Universe/Timeline' that was initiated with the 2006 reboot "CASINO ROYALE". Daniel Craig RESIGNS, and a NEW, 7th actor takes over the Bond mantle.
    Further consequences of option B):
    - The 25th film and other future films will be LESS HEAVY on character background, chronology and continuity
    - (Some of) The other actors from the MI6-family RETURN: Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear (Jeffrey Wright)

C)...DISPOSE of the current 'Bond Universe/Timeline' that was initiated with the 2006 reboot "CASINO ROYALE". A brand-new reboot will be initiated in which a NEW, 7th actor takes over the Bond mantle.
    Further consequences of option C):
    - The 25th film and other future films will be DEVOID of character background, chronology and continuity
    - (Some) Actors from the MI6-family RETIRE: Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear (Jeffrey Wright)

D)...DISPOSE of the current 'Bond Universe/Timeline' that was initiated with the 2006 reboot "CASINO ROYALE". Daniel Craig RETURNS as agent James Bond 007 for a 5th and final time.
    Further consequences of option D):
    - The 25th film and other future films will be DEVOID of character background, chronology and continuity
    - (Some) Actors from the MI6-family RETIRE: Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear (Jeffrey Wright)

Munich, Layer Cake, Dream House, Defiance. All better than the above bargain basement DVD Brosnan films you mention above. Along with the superior acting of DC.

@suavejmf, 'The Matador' is fantastic, one of Brosnan's best roles. All the DC films you listed are fantastic, sans 'Dream House' - that one was pretty terrible and isn't a good showcasing of any acting talent.

I quite liked it. Brosnan is an ok actor. Never exceptional....including the Matador (in my Opinion).
  • If he has not quit by this point, I think he stays. $150 mil for two films is a LOT of money.

A or C not the other ones for sure. Also if it is A I don't want to see a skyfall or SPECTRE, I want to see a film in the style and tone of Casino and quantum, that's sort of serious dark and suspenseful bond film.
