Would also love to see Dubai in any shape or form, but then you have to deal with people putting Bond and Mission Impossible into another pointless battle.
I think he should meet some people who are from there and get a bit of local flavour. Like going to Shanghai and just basically talking to an ex British agent; or going to Norway to speak only to a Frenchwoman. He didn’t seem to know anyone in Jamaica either.
For all the times Craig’s Bond has been to Italy I struggle to think of any Italians he’s met (It’s unclear where Mathis is supposed to be from! :D )
I certainly have no doubt Bond could use the location to great effect, I only mentioned MI because this place has been a breeding ground for those kinds of battles in the past. I'm sure the Bond franchise could make great use of the place, and in a way that truly is its own and no just a retread of MI: Ghost Protocol. It would be cool to see Bond bumping heads with the richest of the rich in a decadent party, where he has to avoid rolling his eyes at the excess on display, or see some of the culture in snapshots as he makes his way on his mission. The place is a spectacle, and I can't believe the Bond films haven't taken advantage of it yet. Perhaps MI using it to such renown scared them off.
Perhaps they're careful of how their buildings and city are depicted. In MI it was just a cool stunt. Almost an advertisement for the city itself.
LOL. Giannini is so Italian, and clearly not French, that they had to write a joke into QoS.
@007HallY, good point. The studio and producers would very much have to play it as they would with China, so as not to offend those too sensitive about how they are depicted on the screen.
Plus, the region provides ample opportunities for interesting plots, but just like China and Hong Kong, they probably can't go and film there and then do a bracing commentary on the war crimes committed in Yemen or something.
Not officially. But I thought that the PTS jump in TSWLM was filmed there.
Yes, that's right. Bond was meant to go to Canada in TB as part of the search for the stolen Vulcan bombs but he got the location changed to the Bahamas instead. In MR Q shows the footage of the fuselage of the crashed plane that came down in the Yukon, which is in Canada. That's all the connections I can come up with but, no, Bond has never been there in the films so we might see it in a future Bond film some day.
Yeah this would be the issue. I like the idea of a Bond film showing the seedy side of Dubai, you’ve got everyone from Daniel Kinnahan to Russian oligarchs holed up there at the minute, so there’s a lot they could use as inspiration. But I can’t imagine the UAE letting them film anything like that there. Makes them look bad and could put off potential tourists.
Maybe they could go old school and set a sequence in Dubai (maybe just a PTS) but film it at Pinewood? I think some of the recent examples of that (Shanghai in Skyfall, NTTD’s death scene) look really good. A decadent super rich party on the top floor of a skyscraper or something. But they wouldn’t even be able to send a crew over for some establishing shots, so the whole thing would be so tricky to pull off convincingly that it might just not be worth it when there’s so many other locations.
I would also like to see Canada in a Bond movie.
Admiral Chuck Farrel in GoldenEye was also part of the Canadian Navy if I remember correctly too.
As for other locations: I like Argentina very much. Moonraker has the Iguazu Section, which is one of the most spectacular places I've ever been to, but even without it, there are some stunning areas to that country. Buenos Aires has beautiful areas. Patagonia has both deserts and glaciers and the country certainly has enough political history to put a plot there, to put it mildly. Main problem would probably be that - depending on how you do it, it could be too similar to the plot and the locations of QoS (which was shot in Chile and Panama, but whatever)
I posted some beautiful locations of my country in the "Places that could have been a villain lair thread" but someone responded to me that he don't want Bond to be there because he hates our President and called him a mass murderer. I'm really sad when I've read that.
I didn't mentioned him here for his confidentiality, as I don't want him to be put in shame. I'm also thinking about his privacy, and I don't want to create some troubles. I'd just let it passed.
Me and my wife are here for a week vacation I feel like the pan handle of Florida gets no respect it is gorgeous here and Jaws 2 was filmed here
I think 007 should come here for a bit
Perhaps a more offbeat note, Paraguay’s Ciudad Del Este is a known trafficking/laundering hub in the region sitting at the crossroads of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. This city could be a key component in any kind of illegal smuggling/trafficking plot.
Seoul would be cool too, there’s loads of brilliant Korean actors who’d be good in a Bond film.
Argentina is a good shout. I’d like to see him go to Colombia one day too. A spiritual successor to LTK could’ve made a great Craig era story, a more critical portrayal of Bond would fit right into a Sicario style commentary on the drug wars.
Edit: I too have been championing for Argentina for a while now. A film that has slowly become one of my favorites, Robert Duvall's Assassination Tango, made such delightful use of Buenos Aires.
