You know, @QBranch, I played both DOOM and DOOM 2 again a few months ago and wow!, old games though they are, some levels are irritatingly tough to beat. ;-) I can safely say that DOOM 3 (the BFG edition) is easier than those early 3D-ish games.
Need for Speed is another great oldie. That and Carmageddon, two of my favourite "car driving" games. Well, along with GTA Vice City, that is.
NightFire was supposed to allow me to drive a car too. Well, no. Because I'm a PC gamer and it turns out my kind is frequently served a watered-down version of the console games.

I've been wanting to get myself an N64 (and this and other titles) for a couple of years now, I just worry I'll have to sink too much into it to be able to play it on a 4K TV (and whether it'd even be worth it. I recently got a PS3, too, and the games look pretty rough on it. Not sure what other cables or whatever I might need to fix this. Might just be incompatible with such a TV, I'm not sure.)

This may help you out with your 4K TV.
You were talking about WW2 games earlier. You might be interested in Blade of Agony, a fan-made Wolfenstein sequel built on the classic Doom engine. They recently updated it adding a third and final chapter.
As for Doom, I must say prefer Doom to Doom 2 myself.
Oh lawd. I played the first mission, focusing on the main objectives. In the previous game, enemy draw distance topped out at 500m. That means, any tagged enemies would disapear beyond 500m. Here's a brief clip of how I took out Ronald Payne, of the the mission targets...
500m? Haha.... 1405.9m. That's more like it.
It's mostly more of the same, which is a good thing, as the previous game pushed the series in an interesting new direction. Bit of a Hitman 2016 influence to the world. The biggest difference being the vastly improved distance.
Thanks for the tip, @mattjoes!
Will do, Xbox has a deal on for 3 months Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for only £1, so could not resist.
My eyes lit up when I saw the Star Wars games (I already own Battlefront I and II) there are loads of games I have never played before and some good ones.
The last few years I have hardly done any gaming so this pass will bring me up to speed for sure.
Meanwhile, the PlayStation Store had some crazy sales these past couple of weeks so I bought a good 15-20 new games. Most of them were indie titles but still, can't wait to dive into them.
I think Squadrons is a free PS Plus title this month but I'm not big on the space combat angle of the games. I hated the game modes associated with it in the two Battlefront titles (though those games were so damn fun and very atmospheric).
Its only because its Prime day I thought I would see if there were any deal. Not had a Playstation since PS2, though thats a good deal there mate. I had Xbox Gold Pass for years which gave us 3 free games a month of varying quality, online gaming etc.
Xbox Game Pass has a large catalogue to choose from, its the first time I have bought this Pass.
My console is an Xbox One X, not upgraded to the new Series X as yet I cant justify buying it yet. My current console has 4K Gaming, 4K player etc.
PS5 I can understand purchasing, a few mates had PS4's so I am aware they were lagging behind Xbox One X's regarding 4K in some area's.
Indeed, the 4K playback is a lot better here but nowhere near the heights of the newer Xbox consoles, apparently. Seems Xbox is the way to go for a proper 4K player between the two.
Is that down to PlayStation focusing more on streaming, I suppose later down the line if physical media is reduced further it wont be so much of an issue. I have a vast physical media collection though I realised recently I buy mostly digital copies of most media now, digital has become cheaper and its so convenient.
My 4k TV is 50 inch and has HDR so its decent though had it maybe 4 or 5 years now and tech has moved on quickly.
I will buy another TV down the line though will stick with this for now as its perfect for my movie room plus it was much more expensive than it would be now, and it took me ages to set it up, mounting it, adding all my devices etc.
Mine's 65" but sometimes the output options don't scream proper 4K/HDR to me. Sometimes I think I overthink it, or maybe it's just bad eyesight or something.
It could be the media content, I am always suspicious of streaming services with regards to 4K content, I am not convinced Disney+ always give me 4K also they advertise Dolby Atmos on some films and it clearly is not Dolby Atmos, living in the UK may be the reason that happens.
Oh, absolutely. It's why I avoid streaming when it comes to "quality" in the visuals. I'm sure most of it is packaged and sold as 4K but is merely upscaled and not true, native quality.
Sounds like the early games. The original Sniper: Ghost Warrior* was very linear, with a lot of clipping issues. I remember looking down the scope of my rifle, and edging over a wall to shoot, but the game would think that I am still behind the wall, so my bullets wouldn’t hit their target, but the enemy could hit me in return! That would happen frequently. The 2nd Ghost Warrior, looks like the same template as the first.
This new sandboxy style, introduced in Contracts, was a step in the right direction. Contracts 2, with its greater distance, goes even further.
* There was an earlier on, Sniper: Art Of Victory, on pc, but I know nothing about that one.
The game is gorgeous, playing the performance ray tracing mode (60fps, with ray tracing but a lower resolution), the writing is spot on, and the game is a blast to play. Managed the platinum trophy on first play through, took about 15 hours.
