Did this a while back, might aswell post it here. As you see the difference isn't big between SP and OHMSS for the top spot, as Spectre end credits are so damn long.

James Bond movie lenghts without end credits

    1. Spectre = 2:21:17
    2. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service = 2:21:12
    3. Casino Royale = 2:20:32
    4. Skyfall = 2:18:08
    5. Licence to kill = 2:10:37
    6. Thunderball = 2:09:36
    7. A view to a kill = 2:08:40
    8. Die another day = 2:08:27
    9. The living daylights = 2:08:14
    10. Octopussy = 2:07:39
    11. Goldeneye = 2:06:39
    12. For your eyes only = 2:05:20
    13. The world is not enough = 2:04:24
    14. The man with the golden gun = 2:04:17
    15. Moonraker = 2:04:13
    16. The spy who loved me = 2:03:57
    17. Live and let die = 2:00:18
    18. Diamonds are Forever = 1:58:45
    19. Tomorrow never dies = 1:55:29
    20. You Only Live Twice = 1:55:20
    21. From Russia with Love = 1:53:48
    22. Dr No = 1:49:15
    23. Goldfinger = 1:48:54
    24. Quantum of Solace = 1:41:59

So based on this these are the current tenures of each actor:

    Sean: 695.43 mins
    Laz: 141.12
    Rog: 873.24
    Tim: 258.51
    Broz: 494.59
    Dan: 521.56

So Dan only has to make one more to be the second longest serving Bond (assuming its longer than 1hr 34 mins).

It would have to be close to three hours long. Check your math.

I stand corrected. I wrote that at 1 in the morning and was seeing 5hrs 21 not 521 minutes.

My maths was indeed wrong - much like your English old son.

My English? Why would you write "math" in the plural in that situation?

Mathematics can be considered as either a singular or plural noun. The British (and proper) way of abbreviating Mathematics is 'Maths'.

I wasn't saying he was wrong 'Math' is American English and perfectly acceptable to use. It was meant as a bit of Anglo-American banter, nothing more serious than that @IncompetentHenchman

(But secretly we all know he is and it isn't.)

To be fair in recent years we've had Bond come out with obscenities like 'cell phone', 'I gotta go' and, without doubt the most offensive line in the series, 'time for a station break' so either it's just me or you don't quite get what you used to when you pay for an Eton education any more.

Perhaps Hannes taught him to say such things?

So have I and I'm younger than this Bond.

And Fleming is careful to note that Bond doesn't own a TV so not sure how much he would've seen of Starsky and Hutch and Happy Days let alone Breaking Bad and House of Cards.

Again perhaps Hannes and Franz liked nothing more than crowding round the telly for a bit of The Fall Guy and TJ Hooker and Bond had no choice?

Do you really need to turn this thread into a bash-fest as well?
We all know you hate SPs Blofeld and the movie itself, even if you say otherwise.

Since we're on to grammar. One thing I've never understood is the typical response to "How do you do?". I admit I never asked my English teacher this question growing up, but always wondered why the response to that greeting is to repeat it. So,

Speaker A: How do you do?
Speaker B: How do you do?

I always thought logically that it should be "Fine thanks? How do you do?" or "Fine thank you. How are you?"

Having said that, I like the traditional response. Classy.

    Silly thought of the day.

PS: Yes, it's 'maths', based on my education too.

And it is adaptation, not adaption.

Also, it is "hear, hear!" , not here, here...

Come on mate, it's called being 'lighthearted' - it's banter, joking around between Brits and Yanks. Are you Swiss? You may not understand.

Dear me you've got it bad. What's a discussion on linguistics got to do with SP?

The asylums are full of people who think they're Napoleon or that SP is constantly unfairly maligned.

The reason I 'bashed' SP by mentioning Hannes is because that is the film that takes liberties with Bond's back story and tells us about his childhood so I was referring to because of the earlier comment that Bond would've watched telly as a kid.

If the debate was about shit editing I would reference QOS and if it was about how Bond should be shown playing baccarat I would moan about the poker in CR.

I know you have a stroke every time someone mentions SP without saying it is the best film in history and fine you like it. We get it. But this is a 'discussion' forum and not 'a being browbeaten by you into agreeing that SP is an unrivalled work of genius' forum.

As for who the the hell cares about correct English? Well how would you Swiss like it if people told you how to make a fondue or hoard Nazi gold?

You are turning and twisting the facts.
You're the one that is downbeating anybody that does praise SP into agreeing that is it crap.
I'm just the only one actually having the guts to stand up against that behaviour.

No I made an aside that Bond might have been taught to say such Americanisms by Hannes during his childhood, part of which, according to SP, we are told was spent in Austria with the Oberhausers.

If you think that is 'bashing' SP you really need to see a therapist mate.

Do people still say "cell phone" in the US? I never hear anyone say "mobile" in the UK any more, it's always just a "phone". I guess it makes sense considering the ongoing disappearance of landlines from everyday life, but is it the same in the US?

Good point. You just say 'phone'or 'landline' these days but back in 97 a mobile phone was a gadget to be in awe of!

At least we can thank Christ that America is the dominant market that we have to cater for and not Germany. Bond saying 'my cell phone' is one thing but to have him saying 'my handy' would be too much. Without doubt the gayest sounding word in the German language.

While we're at it do Americans actually say 'station break'? Isn't it 'commercial break' or 'ad break' either of which I could have lived with. I think TND is the only time I have ever heard the phrase.

Thanks for that @BondJasonBond006 ! I appreciate the work you put into it.

Some points/opinions that I derived from this:

-SP, DAD, SF and TWINE all take around 17 minutes to get started, which is too long. Even though I like them all except for DAD they are too long for something that begins the movie. GE is the absolute limit; go beyond that and you've taken too long.

-Speaking as objectively as possible, the SF and SP titles are definitely too long, I myself felt them dragging in cinema. I also think QOS got a little too long, but that is more because of its design.

-There will probably never be a PTS shorter than FRWL, or a PTS longer than TWINE.

    @IncompetentHenchman

Good points! It seems EON went with Craig from Connery to Brosnan PTS wise. The first two PTS were early Connery short, the second two were Brosnan long. That's quite interesting and I guess it has to do with Mendes choices.

I also prefer the titles (theme song) to be 3 minutes tops.
SF and SP definitely went overboard with close to 4 minutes.

I think the overlong PTS is most felt in TWINE. SF and DAD for example had very long PTS, but at least that is how they were designed to be. For TWINE it has a great boat chase (watched the PTS last night) but having the banter with Moneypenny etc feels like it should be the start of the movie (which was the original intention).

I think the boat chase would have been a great start to the main part of the movie instead, and the main titles coming in after 17 minutes feels a bit weird.

For LTK the album version is 5.16, but the single version is 4.14. I'm sure they used that for their movie edit, as the intros are different.

    4.24 for TND single version

Total PTS length by actor - Minutes:Seconds

    45:22 Pierce Brosnan (4 movies)

    42:33 Roger Moore (7 movies)

    31:03 Daniel Craig (4 movies)

    20:59 Sean Connery (6 movies)

    15:05 Timothy Dalton (2 movies)

    06:06 George Lazenby (1 movie)

Interesting to see Pierce even beats Roger and Daniel beating Sean easily.

Tonight I will open together with @PropertyOfALady a new thread which will cover various funny, interesting and unusual statistics concerning the James Bond movies.
This thread is for length of things, there will be more :)
The new thread is broader and will give you the opportunity to get to know things you always wanted to know about the movies, nothing is insane enough.
