DIE ANOTHER DAY
Gun-barrel! Triumphant opening chords to the Bond theme. This music had me cheering in the cinema.
I don't even mind the bullet.
SPECTRE had a yellow color timing in the PTS, this one is graded blue.
Considering I usually rank this one last, there's much I love about DAD.
Zao has kind of has Elvis Presley hair in the PTS.
Although Pierce was pushing 50 here, I'd say he could have been Bond until 2008 at least.
This is a great PTS, IMO.
Pierce always looked good behind the controls of vehicle.

Great Arnold track here.
I suppose this character is intended to be reminiscent of Kerim Bey. Of that type of Bond ally, I'd say Mathis is more successful. my favorite is Topol's Columbo. Great character.
Controversial opinion here:
I like Brosnan's outfit. The printed blue shirt, dark slacks and shade.
The Jinx intro scene. This makes me want to watch NSNA.
I've always liked that look myself. What's so bad about it?
I think his shirt gets a lot of negative response, but I always thought he looked cool.
I think Tim was the coolest looking Bond (then Sean, although I love Sean more). To me he looked like a sly fox and more like Hoagy Carmichael than the other actors-- am I wrong??

Beautiful shooting throughout the PTS-- the Rock, the jump.... However... there were three 00-agents on board the plane. Yet four land on the Rock...
Doesn't 004 (who's about to be killed) look like Pierce Brosnan????
I love 004's assassin's face. I love him clipping the message to the rope. Love how he "cuts the line"
Tim's intro: top three? Top Four?: Sean as one. DC in CR as two... Laz and Tim have to battle out the third... Laz is perhaps more iconic, but Tim's is quite cool-- won't decide tonight (but think that Hunt got it more right-- actually a lot more right, not taking away from Tim's intro).
Quite honestly, this PTS is shot wonderfully. Love when 004 begs for his life with a scream, the framing, the music and the SFX.
Tim hasn't said a word yet in this PTS, but he is more amazing in his first few beats, than another Bond is in his entire run (I do apologize, just MHO)....
On the van, practical stunts looks sooooo much better than CGI.... And out comes the knife...
Seeing Tim on the jeep is like seeing DC on the train in SF-- awesome personified.
Yes, Tim bringing out the knife, stabbing the canvas-top of the jeep tearing it open and crawling inside is wicked....
I love Tim's head butt- that's nasty.
Loving this PTS: it's ohhhh so boring here, Margo, there's nothing but playboys and tennis pros... If only I could find a real man...
Tim's first words: I need to use your phone.... -- great!! I wish he didnt rush Bond, James Bond (but I like it better than GE's)..;

Hearing this phrase, old man, and Bond slips loading the bullets into the chamber-- his discomfort at hearing "Old Man", a reference to Grant? Bond's near-death? His untrustworthiness at hearing this??? Anyways , I always read it as such....
Koskov's escape... Barry's music... Tension.... Very good... "Girl with the cello" Bond's eye snaps open- his conscience.... Fleming, Fleming, Fleming....

This is timeless stuff so far...

"Our man here"... "Good to work with you again , Mr. Bond"... and yes, Dalton is Mr. Bond (more than Rog was in LALD)...
Good humour: "piping natural gas into western Europe" vs "I thought Christmas only came once a year"...
Pipeline to Q is a slick sequence... And Barry's music.... damn.... although don't like seeing Q pop what I think is heart pills...
Music transitions into Bond theme, "cheer up Saunders, the mission is a success and still yours"....
I honestly think I have a Bond-type Morning Glory.... TLD is starting to climb
Great moment. The message is a fine little bit of intrigue. What does it say? We won't find out until later.
I also remember Carl Rigg, the actor who plays the assassin, from 1985's The Holcroft Covenant.
I always loved it. Pure Fleming brought into the late '80's. Tim was the first "new" James Bond in my lifetime, so I embraced every moment of his tenure. Also I had been reading up on Bond and Fleming, thanks to Rubin's James Bond Films book, Raymond Benson's Bedside companion, and absolutely applauded the fact Tim was brushing up on his Fleming for the film.
I saw 7 times in the cinema that summer of '87. When the VHS versions came out in March of '88, my Dad had won a copy from a radio contest. I watched the film one every 2 weeks until LTK came out.
Magnificent. Dalton was a fantastic Bond. Smart, resourceful, daring, but also human and very relatable. The film is terrific. Intrigue, adventure, romance, great action and a wonderful showcase for Dalton's Bond.
I believe it's been said a few times around these parts that Dalton was a better fit for LTK than TLD. I'm not convinced. Both films show different sides of Dalton's Bond but he's at home in both. He was superb.
It's nice to hear of the result of Bond's mission being a part of this world: as we move in on Universal Exports, we hear a newspaper man yelling "Russian General Defects. Famous Russian General Defects!"
It's nice to see Bond after a mission has been completed-- he's delivered Koskov, BUT, he's still on the case, seeing if he can solve who the "female assassin" was... I like that.
The ghetto blaster-- a little humour left over from Rog's era-- not too offensive.
Moneypenny... a little wooden, but I love Bond giving her a firm pat on the bottom. The last time we will see this (RIP).
Bloody Americans...
I like Necros. Because the actor who portrays him (Andreas Wisniewski), is a dancer, but also was 6'4 and built well, he has a perfect blend of menace and beautiful physical movement. Fleming would have liked him too, I think. Necros is almost asexual in this. He seems to be more interested in killing than anything else (and he does it very well and efficiently!).
I don't think anyone's impressed with Koskov, are they?
Bond purchasing Bolinger-- very nice touch...

When the meeting is adjourned and Bond packs away his cigarettes, he gives a nice look to Koskov-- your story stink and I'm not buying your B.S...
Necros's attack, starting with strangling and dumping the chef's body into the freezer is damn violent-- a big change from Roger's days...
Exploding milk bottles-- I still love that.
Well planned, well executed escape!
Tim had some nice play with Desmond, didn't he. The gadget scene was short and flowed quickly.

It's great watching Bond putting the pieces of his case together: Koskov, Pushkin, Kara, the bullets in the rifle... We know he's onto something but he's not telling us just yet , or anyone else... until...-
Meeting Kara: Bond's put together that the defection was a fake, and now he's going to use Kara to find out why, all under the pretence that he's Kara's escort.
Not quite sure I ever believed Kara could escape from the phone booth that quickly...
In my old age, Bond relenting and getting the cello, is quite a nice scene between these two... Against his better judgement and training, he gave into her request. Something I can see Fleming's Bond do too (I think it was the novel YOLT where Bond is described as having a hard exterior, but inside was soft and drawn to women with a broken wing)...
Ah... somehow the Aston is able to drag a shed with it...
It's also nice to see that some of the driving was done for real; watching Tim react to the explosions happening all around them...
Over all, I'm not a fan of gadgets saving our hero, and these gadgets with lasers and skis, it is rather convenient, isn't it? Q's quite prescient, isn't he? An Aston loaded up for winter conditions!
Escaping on the cello case never really bothered me-- fun little ride... and they've nothing to declare!
