Craig has only killed the Main Villain once. Connery, not much better with two (out of six or seven, however you want to look at it). Roger; killed them all but that one time. Pierce went 4 for 4; he’s the champ statistically. (Roger, numerically). George: 0 for 1. Dalton is 1.5 for 2.

How do you kill half a villain? (I assume you treat Koskov/Whittaker as "1" and joint villains but still it's a funny statistic)

Looking at the Bond Meter thread to pick one that hasn't been watched or marked yet this year.

So here goes THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.

I've always liked Tim's gunbarrel and the Barry score here. Very traditional. Tim has a great pose, IMO.
    Nice opening shot as well.

I love the music as the agents sky dive. Great shot.
This actually is probably my favorite PTS in the series.

    002 effed up immediately.

004 has the standard issue 1987 MI6 haircut like Tim's.

    NOOOOOOO!

    Timmy D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 My hero.

The Blu-ray is sharp, but the colors on the 1999/2000 SE DVD are how the film looked in cinemas.

    HOLD ON YOU"RE DEAD!!!!!!

I should get a black outfit like Tim's here. He looks great.

Why it's Michel Julienne from FYEO!

No Roger nod from Tim here.

Ah, Belle Avery. Recently produced THE MEG. Saw an interview with her promoting that film on Youtube.

    Great opening.

    Hey driver, where we goin'?

    Comes the morning............

I wonder if Sam Smith was inspired by the falsetto here for his Bond song. Nah.

Thus tune is fun to jam to on the guitar. D minor, G minor and so forth.
My girlfriend hates this Bond song.

I think A-ha should come back for B25.

Tim looks great in black tie. I once received a pair of opera glasses/binoculars for Christmas thanks to this film.

Great locations here. Complete cold war thriller.

"You're the first" received a huge laugh from the audience.

Ice chase sequence. I remember Tim wearing a very similar black leather coat in THE INFORMANT. I'd almost think maybe Tim kept that jacket from this film. Roger used to keep some of his Bond wardrobe.

Joe Don Baker is great. He pounds Dirty Harry's Andy Robinson in Charley Varrick. I should get another copy of that movie.

    Why it's Fekkesh!

I noticed Dalton, after shooting Pushkin puts his PPK inside his opened shirt. It looks like Bond wears his shoulder holster underneath his shirt as opposed to just underneath the beige jacket. Odd.

I love the Barry score here.

Now we're getting to the Afghanistan setting sequences.
Although the pacing slows here, I love this section of the film.
Great score as the plane lands for Bond and Kara to be taken to the jail cell.
The Blu-ray zooms in on this scene a bit as the film version and previous DVDs had displayed a boom mike in the shot.

    I love the jailbreak scene.
Bond gets pounded here for a moment. I DID NOT TELL YOU TO GET UP!!! LOL.

    Again Great Barry music.

Now some sneaky Bond. I love scenes where Bond is sneaking around in the dark in some sort of disguise.

Kamran Shah is one of my favorite allies. Great character.

Pretty intimidating bad guy. Especially since Charley Varrick is no physical match for him.

He's pretty intense in that film. Been ages since I've seen it.

Well another viewing of DAYLIGHTS under my belt. I remember watching my VHS copy once every 2 weeks until LTK was released. By then I must have seen the film at least 50 times.

I have that special edition dvd. Do you think it's a better copy than the bluray?. I never take out those dvds since I got the 50 blu ray box set.
Someone also told me the OHMSS blu ray is not as good either.

I think the colors are far superior on the SE DVD looking very close to the way the movie looked in the cinema. The Blu-ray, though is crisper and sharper , but too toned down.

The best example being the sunrise shot immediately following Bond and Kara's kiss at Kamran's. In the cinema and SE DVD it has a beautiful golden sunrise desert hue. In the Blu-ray the colors are pretty much lost looking almost grayish.

The framing is slightly closer on the Blu-ray- losing a tad bit of image. As Bond and Kara are escorted away to the jail, there was a boom mike in the shot. That has been corrected on the Blu ray bu zooming the shot in closer. I personally prefer to see the wider angle as it was in the cinema.

I actually think the OHMSS Blu-ray isn't bad, but again the SE DVD for that film looks closer to the cinematic prints I've seen.
When Lowery did the restoration for the 2006 UE DVD's they completely changed the look of the PTS beach sequence giving it a blue/purple tint. I thought it looked awful, but the Blu-ray version fixed it slightly.

Lowery made changes to some of the other films as well:

TMWTGG as Bond is on the boat following Andrea there was a strobe lighting effect in the original film that was removed for the restoration.
The gunbarrel dots in previous VHS and DVD;s were a bluish white similar to the DAF gunbarrel tinting. This Bond is the only one I've never seen in 35mm on the big screen, so I can't say for certain, but I'd assume the bluish dots were a one off for this film.

AVTAK The morning shot of Stacey's mansion after Bond tucks her in originally had a shaking motion to indicate the earth tremor which wakes Bond up. The tremor was taken out of the Lowery restoration, making Stacey's mansion simply look like an ordinary establishing shot.
Perhaps those at Lowery were n't too familiar with VIEW's plot-line and thought the shaky camera work was due to print quality?

The audio tracks: various DTS stereo surround sound made changes as well. The cat's meow/ hiss in the PTS of DAF is completely different than in the original mono track. In LALD after Bond escapes the crocodile island and is setting fire to the farm, the funky bass line is practically gone in the stereo version.
When Bond first encounters Domino underwater as she gets stuck in the corral, the bass line playing the Bond theme melody is subdued as well. This is why I almost always go with the original mono or Dolby audio tracks when watching the Bond.

I think there may be a thread on here somewhere that discusses the changes and differences in DVD and Blu ray editions.

Thanks for that, lucky I kept the SE's. I know there's articles pointing out differences but IIRC it's a paid article.

OHMSS has unusually high standard of cinematography for a Bond film, that will not be met until SF.
Color grading and wide shoots at times make it feel like non-Bond film.

@FoxRox AVTAK might be one of my fav "lazy afternoon" Bonds. So watchable and fun even if there are parts that miss for me in places .

It is super watchable and a ton of fun. It’s not the most well-made Bond by any means, but it’s still very entertaining and deserves some more love.

Barry's arrangement of the theme song when Bond is carrying Stacey down the ladder is so powerful. Love it!

Awesome! Have fun with it! Wish I was off but I’m still happy I woke up in time to squeeze it in before my obligations.
