Ghosts also, in their incorporeal state, need to harness the energy from their environment to act, which I've always found strange, like they're meant to be batteries.

Maybe someone should start a, "Do you believe in extraterrestrials?" thread. Could prove interesting I think.

I was just about to do that. Should I go ahead?

    Go for it!

How about we don't? I was probed by aliens where the sun don't shine years back, and just thinking about it gives me traumatic flashbacks. I still don't walk quite right, all these years later.

Sorry. I've already created the thread.

I was thinking about this thread this morning, the greasy spoon is the only time I get to read comics like the Sun etc and I saw some adverts where you pay a prem rate to call a psychic !! the fact that these firms make a profit and can justify advertising in the manistream media really sums things up

Don't worry. I have a thread on just that subject coming up soon. :)

Okay, I've got something interesting here. Lately I've been talking to one of my overseas friends via Skype call and just before Halloween whenever we'd talk on her computer, I would get a loud burst of static come my way. And this only happens when we skype. When we've talked on Mobile or Facebook call nothing happens. And this is the only person I've skype called that this happens with. So what do you think? Technical error or ghostly viewer?

Aside form the static, You can hear my friend make a confused sound and me taking a breath.

And I have been to Berry Pomeroy Castle, allegedly the UK's most haunted castle and, from one booklet I've read it has an aura of malevolence. I saw no ghost, heard no ghost and it looks like a charming place.

  • Just thought some of you might like to know: I’ll be spending this Saturday night in a (reputedly) haunted house.

Here’s the set-up – on the third Saturday night of every month I get together with a group of friends for a musical jam & potluck. Usually we get together at somebody’s house and the location varies from month to month – but one of us doesn’t have room in his home, however, he DOES have a personal connection with the fellow who owns “The Bordello” in Oakland CA…so once a year we get together a place that is known to be haunted according to True Believers in the paranormal. Here’s a link…

    http://www.hauntedplaces.org/item/the-bordello/

As I’ve previously stated, I am neither a believer nor a disbeliever, but I’ve been here several times before and the place definitely has a vibe. If you don’t hear from me after Saturday night, you know where to look……..or DO you???
  • @BeatlesSansEarmuffs, if during your stay you feel a slight stiffness coming on...say, in the shoulder...just remember, it will be due to the succubi...no doubt.

I suspect you haven't followed the link, @Hero. Here's some of what it has to say: "Old house built in 1887, former saloon and brothel with very active paranormal activity. Everything from chairs being moved to figures of men and women sighted around the house. Not too bothersome but definitely present. History records suggest a bar fight leading to a stabbing in the saloon in the early 1900’s. Also, because this building was right on the water at the time (before the 880 was built) sailors would often come to the bordello for drinks and “fun”. This would eventually lead to what is known as shanghaiing of sailors. They would be dragged down to the basement and shipped off to work on other ships.I wouldn’t doubt it if some died down there. I personally do not go into the basement alone because it is scary as all hell. Cold cement walls and a small cellar in the back. No thank you."

What this description fails to note is the cell in the cellar. At one spot, the cold cement making up three walls of an enclosure are set off by a fourth wall of steel bars, and a barred door that can be locked. It's a cell for imprisoning shanghaied sailors before they can be spirited off to the nearby ships that have "purchased their services." I've been there, I've seen it, and you'd better believe I didn't go alone. Here's a brief report from someone who rented out one of the upstairs rooms for awhile:

    Laura | April 11, 2015 at 4:12 pm
"I rented an apartment in the old bordello in 2002-2003. Definitely a spooky/charming place. Overall my unit felt pretty cozy, but the hallway was super spooky. I always felt like I was seeing people in the hallway. Tools used to go missing and show up in random places. I also used to receive mysterious presents (sequins and pieces of sparkly costume jewelry). They’d show up in my apartment from nowhere. I scrubbed and painted every corner of that place when I moved in, so I know that they weren’t there to begin with. Overall impression of the place was that it is occupied by quite a few spirits, but they are all quite friendly and happy to share the place with new tenants."

Anyone out there care to take up residence?

Why is the supernatural so mundane? And are these ghosts clothed too?
  • So let me get this straight: the ghosts leave people jewelry, as opposed to stealing which is what some of the living dead are inclined to do. I think I'll take the ghosts over my fellow "lifies," thank you.

The fact that this thread continues I think is testiment enough to how far we have to go to sort ourselves out. Global warming is the last of our worries.

To be fair I wrote the first thing that came into my head, then looked further up the page and saw Irish stuff was mentioned, how about that?

You'd best start believing in ghost stories, Mr Brady... You're in one!

I certainly haunt myself more than any ghost would or could ever hope to, so there's that.

If a paranormal plain is in existence I live with the solace that I will one day be able to haunt/prank/possess and in general terrify all the annoying people I've had to put up with in my life, past, present and future.

I had some Ghost Tabasco with my lunch just now. In fact, I had a lot of Ghost Tabasco with my lunch. I'm seeing ghosts and angry faces and colourful butterflies everywhere. :D
  • Sounds like you've been having too many of the khaki-colored cookies that my friends brought to The Bordello last night. (This is California, remember. It's legal now.) I only had one; saw no ghosts. Maybe I should have had three or four along with @DarthDimi's Ghost Tabasco.

This stuff is addictive. I'm ghosting out half the time simply because I'm drugging myself with capsaicin. My intestines aren't too fond of this habit though so I'm going to have to stop chasing the chilli.

A similar thing has happened to me every time I attempt to watch Spectre. I put it into by Blu-ray player, but each time it is shot out back at me (I have several cuts from this) and an apparition that looks a lot like Christoph Waltz appears next to me, cackling wildly while shaking his finger in my direction.

I went to the store after a while to get a fresh copy of the film, but the same exact thing kept happening. I am confused and fearful of why this has occurred. For starters, Christoph Waltz isn't dead, so why is he appearing as a ghost in my bedroom (it could just be ghost that looks like him, but that's a stretch)? Secondly, he's a two-time Oscar winner and should be out celebrating that fact, so what business has he got haunting me and my attempts to watch my Bond films? I know he isn't happy with his work in Spectre, but I like it and would enjoy viewing it at least once more without him popping out to give me a fright. What should I do?

FYI I am fully aware of the situational irony posed by me trying to watch a film called Spectre but being unable to because a specter is haunting me.
