We're still friends, @Dragonpol, don't worry, but then friends arguing over their favourite soccer team. We'll shout and we'll scream, and then I'll buy you a pint. ;-)

    A very nice sentiment, @DarthDimi.

I agree with him, @Dragonpol. Both Darth and I can get passionate in our responses to you, but I think it's safe to say that it changes little between us in the grand scheme as we've got a lot of stuff to connect over. In a way I think it's important and interesting to discuss these things, because not communicating is what leads to all kinds of problems in society where groups isolate themselves from discourse that could cause a rethinking process on each side when it comes to certain matters.

I try to be invested in the argument without getting cruel, so I hope I didn't cross that line this time around, as these are delicate matters. You're one of my favorite people around these parts, so I didn't intend for it to come off like that. I save my more fiery responses for those who haven't earned my respect yet, which you managed to do quite a long time ago. ;)

No, no offence taken or given from my side also I hope, @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7. :)

That's what would really haunt our interactions together forever.

I am an avid reader of ghost stories and as Halloween and autumn get closer I go reading this genre avidly for weeks on. Over the year I made myself a nice stash of ghost and horror stories. Anyway, what struck me recently re-reading this thread is that the characters in these stories are far more skeptical than those year who claim to have seen a ghost. If you read The Upper Berth by Marion Crawford for instance, this is what the narrator and main character says after his first encounter with what appeared to be a soaked corpse appearing out of thin air in his cabin: "Still I doubted my senses, and pulled myself together. It was absurd, I thought. The Welsh rarebit I had eaten had disagreed with me. I had been in a nightmare."

And one would agree that a walking drowned corpse is far less ambiguous an encounter than say some sensation of being tapped over the shoulder, a light going off and on or a whisper. And then, before further investigating the matter, he says this: "I abstained from Welsh rarebits and grog that evening, and did not even join in the customary game of whist. I wanted to be quite sure of my nerves, and my vanity made me anxious to make a good figure in the captain's eyes."

Now that would be, I expect, the proper attitude of someone wanting to find out what is truly happening from a situation that appears supernatural. And you need to make sure of your own rationality.

Maybe not a chance of it, but do I feel the specter of fate at our shoulders?

A professor in psychiatry here has claimed in a newspaper article that ghosts do not exist in the real world. I am impressed.

Are you going to hedge your bets and kill yourself in the hopes you can haunt him beyond the grave to prove him wrong?

How grotesque! I hope none of the ghosts sexually assaulted her, as I don't believe there's any way for her to receive justice when the perpetrators are on the other side.
