The great MI6 Community JAMES BOND Advent Calendar

Soon the advent season begins and therefore Christmas isn't that far away either and before you can say James Bond we'll have 2017.

I would like this to be a place where we can make Christmas greetings (to each other) talk about the Christmas season, what it means to you, if you connect it with something Bond or whatever comes to mind.

From December 1st to December 31st this will also be an Advent Calendar :)
On each of those days clips about something Bond will be posted. Furthermore photos, articles or whatever comes to mind.

I would like this to be a shared experience, so maybe we can get volunteers that would be willing to post something on a given day. Of course I would start it off on December 1st. I'd say the first 25 that come forward can have one of the Advent calendar days. If there should be more than 25 we can expand it beyond the 25th. Nobody should be left out.

I feel after this year we can all use a bit of friendship, a place to support to each other and have some fun.

Thank you for your time and best regards From Switzerland With Love, Jason Stephen Bond.

Wonderful! And that reminds me of St. George. Lovely if he popped back in, too.
    Thanks, Jason. Yes, I volunteer.

My only suggestion is can we please keep all politics off this thread. Not even to crack a joke, please. This could be a fun, cheerful haven for the holidays - I'd like that. :)

Not to put a downer on it, but why can you not get a James Bond calendar anymore? I used to get one every year! There was one good one that used unused Bond posters, but now all you can get is a Daniel Craig one! But I'd rather a Bond one! Anyone know if you can purchase a decent one?

I remember that calendar! Wish I had kept it, but I'm sure it's long gone now.

This thread is right up my alley as I absolutely love the holiday season! I love seeing homes decorated for Christmas, trees, lights, the classic carols, the old TV specials and movies. Also, December is a great excuse (like we need one) to watch OHMSS again.
Last year I moved across the States to be closer to my folks as there had been far too many Thanksgivings and Christmases when I just couldn't make it over for the holidays. Like The Fonz on that one Happy Days episode I was spending my Christmas Eves alone.

About a week before my move last December, I was lucky to get a response from Sir Roger Moore on his website. Every month or so he answers a handful of fans' questions submitted to him on facebook and the Sir Roger site. I thought it would be amusing to ask, being the holiday season, which James Bond he thought would make a great Scrooge. Also if there were any villainous characters in classic literature he'd love to play. He responded by saying he was resisting the temptation to make a joke regarding a certain Scot, but that he probably would have liked to tried the role himself, as the character goes thru changes in the story. He also added that Alistair Sim was the actor he most identified with the role. It completely made my day that he responded- a great early Christmas gift!
Come to think of it, I can picture Tim in the part scowling "Bah, humbug!" .
Glad to have found this thread, and I do believe this marks my 1000th post!
  • Working all Christmas this year. In the UK certainly when I was young for many years ITV played a James Bond film on Christmas Day it was always the film I would look out for.

    First of all, congrats @totheright.

Then again, I have nothing new to add here: great idea. I'm looking forward to the 1st of December to see how all of this unfolds. I'll try to do a thing every day, starting with Dr. No and ending with Bond 25, and with TB and CR with a double and triple special posts (one for each version).

As long as we are only 10 people, picking one or two dates is ok. That still leaves 6 to 11 free dates if we expand the Calendar to the 31st. And if suddenly hordes of potential participants should materialise we can always forgo the second date :)

Dear friends, the first door from this advent calendar will show you some things that are responsible for turning me into the life-long James Bond fan I am and always will be.

Two clips from The Living Daylights, which I saw in 1987 at age 13. TLD was a life-changing experience. The world seemed to turn differently when I left the cinema.

The clips recap perfectly how TLD effected me emotionally and influenced my interest in film and music and history.

John Glen did a fantastic job capturing the romantic, yet dangerous adventure feel that TLD gives you.
John Barry provided yet, another masterpiece of scoring.
Overall this sums up James Bond perfectly for me. Living the romantic, dangerous, adventurous life, going to exotic places, accompanied by a beautiful woman, trying to save the world or at least make it a bit better. And know that because of this film I became a para-scout in the military. It was the ultimate motivation for me to make my dream come true.

Listen to the music in those clips. Testament to the genius Barry was. And needless to say TLD has always been and always will be my favourite film score.

Personally I so love the whole Afghanistan sequence in TLD. It gave me goosebumps back then and I wanted to see the world. Also I went to my history teacher and demanded that he tell me about Afghanistan and the Mujahadin.

The clip: Mujahadin and Opium from The Living Daylights

The clip: Hercules takes off from The Living Daylights

Here is a small glimpse into my James Bond display at home. It's something that is important to me, I want to be surrounded and accompanied by that stuff, daily.
So this shows the top of my bureau writing desk which is just above my computer screen I'm sitting at writing and posting this stuff :)
    full.jpg

A direct consequence of my encounter with the film TLD in 1987.
Also of note: Timothy Dalton is James Bond for me, always was, always will be. He is the definite version of Bond.

    Really great start, @BondJasonBond006!!

Guess what, I turned 13 in 1987! :D And, yes, I was totally shocked with TLD, still one of my favourite Bonds and films of all time.

I've already seen AVTK on cinema, but the 25th Anniversary definitely converted me to this glorious Bond-fever! And, now, here we are... :D

  • I want to open my own windows - if you don't mind - offering you guys a new bit of trivia about any movie every day until St. Stephen (which is also a holiday in Catalonia, the zone of Spain where I live). So, here goes a bit of little known trivia about Dr. No:

Do you remember Jess Franco, probably the king of Euro-schlock? Well, he made a statement that proves his admiration for Maurice Binder:
"There's more cinema in Dr.No's credits than in Ingmar Bergman's complete filmography"

    This is my first contribution.
