    BREAKING NEWS

In a letter distributed to cinemas worldwide EON PRODUCTIONS/MGM/SONY PICTURES have asked that the GUNBARREL for the latest James Bond film SPECTRE be shown just after the adverts and before the trailers. A spokesman for the films production company said in a statement "with the gunbarrel slapped between the ads and the trailers we know that the Bond fans will turn up early to see it and as a result will also see all the other exciting films that are on their way, and know that they don't have to wait another 3 years to go to the cinema"
    I sincerely hope you're joking.

I should have added a :-) to the end. yes. I am joking. Well I hope they don't get any ideas!

Film is locked down by now. However, what you say could influence Bond 25.... :)
  • I love this one! Would be great if Daniel shoots two times!!:

I have always said that the music used in the FYEO gunbarrel was the best. I would love to hear it in the cinema.

No it wouldn't. Bond should only ever need one shot.

    Agreed!

    Seconded.

Provided the barrel is at the start...I wonder what will Newman do music-wise, the more traditional DU-DU-DUUUN explosion on the dots or the rising sting a-la TND/TWINE after the shot? Personally the former would be one hell of a HELL YES moment at the start of the film.

    The former is preferable.

Agreed, I much prefer the former rendition (hope Newman will do his own orchestration rather than rehashing Arnold's this time also).

Know I'm expecting far too much - but hope they don't cock-up some of the other Gunbarrel aspects also: the graphical gun-barrel design on the past couple has been bloody awful, the walk/blood - way too quick, the final pose from Craig rather stiff (exception: Casino Royale). I really don't understand why they needlessly feel they must tinker with something which was already pretty damn perfect!

Gun barrel sequence in the middle of the film, such as the middle of Act 2? =))

I agree I hope they have the Maurice Binder design of the gunbarrel. Changes from film to film for the gunbarrel should always be subtle in my opinion.

Binder created perfection. They should stick with it.....forever.

I don't think Kleinman will want to repeat the same modern Binder design and animation that he nailed nfor the Brosnan era - I think this will be a different design a-la SF probably, but more glossy allowing for the classic Binder reflection design to the incorporated.

In other words - sort of a cross between the Brosnan and the SF barrels.

A-bloody-men to that. The DC gun barrels are crap. They need to go back to the Brosnan barrel.

Along with the use a gun-barrel always wears down..!..so the gun-barrel has to change.

A small YT edit I made which is essentially what I want the gunbarrel to be. Hopefully though, Kleinman will pay more respect to Binder's original design.

It's delightful how much Bond fans debate about the importance of the gun barrel sequence being at the beginning of a Bond film. That's true geeky fandom. Count me among the masses that would be more than a little pleased to see it at the start of SP.
  • I have no doubt that the gun barrel will be at the start of the film. I just hope Newman gives a rousing Bond theme to go with it.

Something like that but with the blood dripping slower.

About the gunbarrel being at the beginning...if it ain't broke don't fix it. They might as well remove the PTS, or the main title sequence to the front or back.

Imagine the uproar if the Star Wars opening crawl was added as an epilogue at the end of the movie!

    The Gun-barrel fiasco was unnecessary.
I hope EON has learned its lesson.
  • the gunbarrel sequence is no where near as exciting to watch at the end of a film . At the beginning is where its meant to be.

I also think they should leave just a couple of seconds of black screen between the logos and the dots to build anticipation before the music blares into action. I thought the fan made barrel was over far too quickly still (unlike the company logos which preceeded it).

It has to be! Even Disney said there will not put their logo before opening crawl - only LucasFilm, for the Star Wars fans.

Ending scene of Skyfall along with the gunbarrel made wanted to scream and clap my hands in cinema like haunted - it was epic, but made me automatically sad because of the end of the movie - after gunbarrel you are sharpened up for Bond, and then movie ends...

I don't mind Mendes and his dramatic entrance into series with Skyfall opening scene as Bond comes out of the shadows, but now is the time to get back on the track.

If they don't put the GB at the beginning i'm going to mail EON an envelope with Anthrax

    Hahahaha Gunbarrel Fiasco?

I highly doubt Eon is even remotely aware of how seriously some of us take the position of the gunbarrel.

I'm sure they know some people won't like it, but I don't think they mind.

Yeah, hopefully the GB will be at the beginning of the film. However, what I liked about the QOS-GB, was, that after the shot, we saw Craig walking on to the left. That would be cool IMHO. And the blood should drip down more slowly, not as rushed as it was in QOS and SF.

Wilson was about it before Quantum came out (that's when he said it would "probably" be at the start).

Broccoli was asked about it after Skyfall came out. She said it would "vary from film to film."

I'm sure they don't think of it as a fiasco. But I think they know the issue exists, at least on some level.

that's exactly what I would say. A pause with black, then all of a sudden, duur durr daa daa!!
  • If this is going to be craig's last, it better be at the beginning anyway. It's what makes a bond film entrance so exciting, and sets it aside from any generic films.

Absolutely. it just didn't seem right, apart from CR, not to have it in its proper place!
I fear that if it isn't at the start of SP then we're not going to have it there ever in the future films.
