• After the wonderful use of the gunbarrel in both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, I wish the one of Skyfall will celebrate the fiftieth birthday of the saga. That's why I hope a gunbarrel a la Dr No : mention to Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, plus a position a la Sean Connery, and last but not least no PTS.

I'd really really love to see the title sequence following the gunbarrel, with an instrumental music, but not the James Bond theme. An instrumental a la From Russia with love. What do you think of the idea ?
I could dig that. Except I would prefer to use the James Bond Theme.

Looks as though someone created a 3D model of the barrel. Very nice!

I just realised that we might get a Gunbarrel sequence shot by Roger Deakins!
Indeed. Here's the first shot:

Fabulouth.

• Well, with this new video I think it is safe to say the gunbarrel sequence will definitely be back. Where in the film-- who knows? Hopefully the white dots will be the first thing we see after the MGM/ Columbia logos.

The completely new gunbarrel design at the end is curious. Is that the new design we can expect in Skyfall? It appears to be a cleaned up version of the one seen in Quantum of Solace.

I made this today in honor of the confirmation of Skyfall.

Enjoy!

What do you think Skyfall's Gunbarrel Sequence will look like?
Well yes something like that but it should be in the beginning before the new James Bond movie like before. Not end. We can use on The beginning of Skyfall. Another Thing it has to Daniel Craig performing it. Not like what happen in Dr.No to Goldfinger doubles. It easy to do it.

Every gunbarrel contains the following things:

The QUANTUM OF SOLACE gunbarrel contains all of these - six elements that make it recogniseable as a James Bond gunbarrel. The fact that it is located at the end of the film (as opposed to the beginning) does not make it indistinguishable as a gunbarrel. Therefore, it is unconventional, but not "non-traditional".

no it didnt they completely used a diffrent gunbarrel- it was greyish metal not the classic cool black look...they better use the Brosnan era gunbarrel

i think they should make a whole new barrel or go with the style from CR (though i wouldn't mind seeing a Bob Simmons throwback)

I wish the QoS gunbarrel could have been better. I like the way you slowed down Craig's walk.(HE IS MOVING WAY TOO FAST! Daniel later said he was nervous when he filmed it).
I don't like the Brosnan music to it.
I prefer the old school gunbarrel (Simmons-Dalton) with the red wash coming down like it used to in the old days with the classic music from the other films of this period. MR, TLD, AVTAK pick one. :)>-

Craig also said they really wanted the aggregation to come through, hence the fast walk. I believe in all, the sequence was filmed twice. It should be redone, if only for the fact this 'aggregation' is not needed anymore and shalln't have been there to begin with. Bond should be afterall, be effortless.

Indeed, they're using the gunbarrel a lot in the latest trailer (two at the beginning, one at the end) and the 50th Anniversary logo, so it's fair to assume it will be back at the start of Skyfall.

I wouldn't count on that. As you said, it's like a cleaned up version of the QOS gunbarrel and I think it's just for the trailer. Like for example in the CR teaser we had a gunbarrel almost identical to Brosnan's, but got something entirely different in the film. I hope we'll get a more classic gunbarrel in Skyfall than the ones in CR and QOS.

One very important question remains unanswered: Will Daniel Kleinman return? So far Mendes has brought on board all of his usual crew. Does he have someone for that job too? Because if he does, I'm afraid Kleinman won't be back.

EDIT: Here is the gunbarrel from the BOND 50 trailer. It's ok for a trailer, but I wouldn't want it to start the films...

I thank you for my new wallpaper! :-bd
• I have always thought this about the QOS gun barrel.

When they made CR it was part of the story and made complete sense. When I saw QOS I was a little dissappointed that I didn't see it at the start of the film. I have been a fan for 13 years and counting and I felt part of the tradition, as you all call it, was going to the wayside.

However, after seeing it a second time, i began to think there was a reason behind the placement of the barrel. See, QOS is a sequel to CR. I personally classify it as more of a 3rd Act to the larger story that begins in CR. So it seems to me that the opening gun barrel of CR also applies to QOS in a much more subtle way. To me, having the gun barrel at the end was their way of saying, we know Bond films need this, and even though it doesn't really match the tone we are saying with CR/QOS's story, here it is anyway.

Maybe (but no). Its placement in CR showed you this was Bond, its going to be a Bond adventure. In QoS, like you said, they were continuing the story from CR. The reason they put the new gunbarrell at the end of QoS was to show you 'Bond's beginning is over. Done. Settled. Time to move on with [what would be Skyfall]. So it was a way of returning to the norm. A separate plot would follow, and it would be a (relatively) traditional Bond flick.

I'll be glad if SF will have gunbarrel at the begining after variations in CS & QoS!

Yes, hopefully we will have the classic Gun Barrell logo. But also, I would like to have Daniel Craig keep walking away after he has fired the gun, like at the end of QOS... That would be rather cool. And please no 3D bullett.

I really loved seeing all 6 Bond's in the gunbarrel in the Blu Ray trailer... I would really like seeing that in the film, coupled with the 'Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli presents' line aswell.

In the trailer, it looked like craig 'bumped' in to the gun-barrel before turning round and firing, looks like he overshot a little. Might just be me though...

Yes. It was terrible editing from when they overplayed the Brosnan gun barrel on top of his. No idea how nobody noticed it before releasing the trailer. Somebody needs to be strapped to a gold table wi a laser beam pointed towards their crotch.

Bring back the traditional gun barrel that worked for 30 odd years! Nothing new or fancy just Craig walking and then firing at the screen, followed by a cracking stunt filled PTS with no relation to the plot of the film, cue applause from the audience!
• Personally, I thought the QoS gunbarrel was too quick - it was at the wrong speed and it looked as though DC was in a rush to get to the bog! It was over before we knew about it!! The gunbarrel is one of the key elements - let us savour it.

I think QOS's biggest downfall with me was the lack of a gun barrel sequence at the beginning. The sequences are important and necessary to ones attitude toward the film: they energize you with the feeling that "this is Bond film, get excited!" So I hope, and think the Bond 50 trailer is good evidence, that the GB will be at the beginning of the film in the traditional way.

Honestly, QOS would be much higher on my list if just the GB was at the beginning.
