Rich Douglas has a new gunbarrel concept out.

I like the use of Dr. No's electronic sound in the background. Perfect for Skyfall?

    No. Just.. no.

I wasn't saying it was, I personally think it would be more appropriate back in Brosnan's era.

I actually don't mind that - i mean, being that it's fan created... i like the subtle use of the DR NO electronics, you can tell they are there, but they are not overpowering..

its "okay" for a gun barrel... but the arrangement of the music i think befits a trailer better.

the gun barrel music needs to be perfect... that was too 'fan created'.....

It would have been far better without the electric 'whirrrring' sound in the background at the beginning. I like the added tempo though.. maybe a little deeper.

It wouldn't have shot up my list but I definetly would've liked the film a bit more.

I just found this on Youtube, I think it's a good gunbarrel.

My perfect opening for Skyfall would be a combination of the gun-barrel intros from OHMSS and CR in the traditional opening spot with Craig in his tux.

I don't like the music on that last one. It sounds too "fan created," to borrow the term from @DaltonCraig007. Everything else is really well done.

IMO, all the GB needs is to have Craig dressed up in SMOKING, Not a normal Suit.

    IMO, Craig should don his blue speedos and do this in the gunbarrel sequence ;

I know it's a video game, but I've always liked the Nightfire gunbarrel (console version).

The teaser poster has me wondering if we'll see Craig in a Simmons or Connery gunbarrel.

What if, and this IS ONLY FOR A COMMERCIAL, we start with a black screen. Then an explosion goes off, a crack of light in a circle begins to reveal a spiral, and as the light intensifies we see the shape of the bullet, in slow motion, with the explosion fading, pushing out of the barrel, speeding up now. The camera stays in the barrel as the bullet flies out. The bullet barely misses Bond with his back turned, who, in slow-ish motion, turns and gives us our gun-barrel.

    Its a commercial.
    Its a commercial.
    Its a commercial.

    :)

Kind of like the QoS Sony commercial where Craig is just exploded for 30 seconds straight. That kind of commercial.

The gunbarrel needs to be at the start. Knowing Mendes' bond-fandom, it will be. When you ask someone "what it James Bond", they will always whistle the James Bond Theme, used in - yes - the gunbarrel. It's thé ultimate trademark, as demonstrated by Skyfall's teaser poster.

I was happy with the gunbarrel where it was in CR and QoS (yes, though okay, it was rushed) but for the anniversary, I'm sure they will have it back at the start. Will be nice to see it where it belongs!
  • I actually completely support the Gunbarrel at the end of QoS. It marked the end of the story arc that re-introduced Bond to modern times. Yeah I know this was the idea with Casino Royale's gunbarrel too, but I still think it works. I almost wish Casino Royale just didnt have it.

I will wet my pants if the Gunbarrel appears at the start of the Olympic ceremony FILM footage on the big screen and tv's!!!! ;)
  • I have a theory to why the gun Barrel will be at the begining.

    1. The opening action sequence will be 11 minutres long. This seems far to long to wait for a gun barrel.

    2. I beleive the music credits will roll when bond has been shot and falls into the water.

These are two reasons why i think it will return. Im not certain about number 2 , but its just a thought.

I'd love it to be in the vain of the CR one as that was quite clever and it's woven into the story, so it doesn't feel like an 'add-on'.

casio royale one was clever, but i was dissapointed. Having the gun barrel at the begining is far more thrilling. Its a great atmospher in cinema when the gun barrel rolls on with the bond music. Nearly all the fans want it back at the begining.

But its where it belongs. Its been there for nearly every bond film, and it shouldnt change.

I have been hoping for it to return back to its traditional style. If it doesnt, then its no bond with a capital B for me. I dont know how anyone could want it not to return.

Exactly. Watching a James Bond-film should also be some kind of 'rollercoaster ride'. At least, that was how I grew up with Bond as a child. I still can recall the first moment of my first ever Bond movie in cinema: Maurice Binder's gunbarrel with the thrilling music by Michael Kamen for 'Licence To Kill'. I was 8 years old then, kinda shocked, but instantly awake and goddamn curious about this 'weird' intro.

That's what a gunbarrel is doing with our minds.....especially when you are a kid. The same for me in 1995 with 'GoldenEye', 1997 with 'Tomorrow Never Dies (Best of Arnold's gunbarrel-music) and lastly with TWINE (1999).

After that I felt quite disappointed in 2006 with 'Casino Royale'. The opening started to become a 'normal', generic action thriller opening, devoid of that 'Bond-ride' I was expecting.

You know what I'd love to see? A crisp and clear hommage to Maurice Binder's first ever gunbarrel. This design:

And I have a feeling Danny Kleinman knows, just like the music department, that WE Bond fans are in desperate need of that typical 'Bond-ride', kickstarted with that old Binder-barrel. That makes me feel almost 'horny' of happiness.

And I also think the kids of 2012 should get that thrilling Bond-ride-feeling also.....

What i am hoping for, and would be a dream come true. Is the gun barrel opens at the begining, but with the new casino royale look. But then I would like it with a gold tint to it, to celebrate the 50 anniversary. a golden gun barrel would be amazing, dont you think?? Maby the swirly parts in gold.

Also, the aopening gun barrel represents it more as a bond film, and not just some typical action adventure. It should never lose its place. It makes sence bringing it back aswell, because quantum of solace had it and the end, before it was a continuation. Skyfalll is a whole new chapter.

Are they filming a fresh gun barrel for each film now?

Other than the fact that the gb belongs at the start, SF will definitely have this as its the 50 year anniversary, it's been a 4 year wait, it's supposed to be Bond with a capital B and the best way to kick off the movie is to have the gb, which I'm sure in many cases will be received with cheers and woo-hoos from the audience, welcoming Bond as he should be back onto cinema screens.

That's exactly how I interpreted it. CR/QOS were about showing how a rookie agent named James Bond evolved into being a professional. They could play around with the gunbarrel in this instance. I liked the CR gunbarrel where they put it. And it will be back in the beginning, that I'm very sure of because I haven't let it's prior placements jade me into thinking it was messed with without purpose and reason.

For you, me and other Bond fans: yes. For ordinary cinema-go-ers: no. We understand this arc-thing. And frankly, we Bond fans would have loved the ending of OHMSS to be part of the pre credits sequence of DAF. But frankly, I think the larger audience recognizes Bond, with the capital B, with that famous gunbarrel-trademark at the start.

Moreover, I think the story-arc from CR-QOS should have been clear from the actual plot, the story, the narrative of the screenplay. How Bond turned into the smooth agent should be crystal clear from the story. The gunbarrel at the end of the movie is simply....silly for me....and is IMO nothing more than an failed experiment that actually distracts the ordinary audience. Even Bond fans at first were not very happy with it......only after the reality kicked in we learned to accept this 'end titles gunbarrel'.

    So, GUNBARREL. BACK. AT. START.

  • I asked Tony Lewis if the gun barrel is back, but he said ill have to wait to find out. lol.

But i think it iwll be, ive just been worried about it, because it means alot to me.
