For example, Andor, I've seen critics say that they won't be covering the show because from what they've seen, it gives them nothing to talk about i.e. references, throwbacks, easter eggs. What happened to getting excited about new stories about new characters that don't rely on nostalgia?
Overall, the X-Men are some of my favourite comic book characters, so I really hope, Feige and Marvel doesn't try and cut corners by just bringing back the actors from the Fox movies.
Its worth it, there are shots in the film that make me confident Indy 5 is in good hands.
@MakeshiftPython, no genuine offense intended, but if this is more your speed...
...then I'm not surprised Logan didn't do anything for you.
This all being said, the MCU has already strayed so far from any level of consistency in quality or writing that by this point there isn't much left to worry about it tainting. We're far past that, with shows now making light of Cap's sex life and making a joke out of every character that used to have any edge. The first ten years of films will be enjoyed and cherished for the long form story being told, and everything that came after Endgame mostly forgotten, as it should be.
And as for the second, what a sequence. I love that initial roar we hear emanate from the woods as the serum takes hold and he makes his approach (followed by the fearful "It's the Wolverine!" before he absolutely destroys those Reavers).
Oh that's gold, I knew it looked off. Seems quite obvious now, didn't even realize she was green when I first looked at it.
God, can someone delete that thing?! Eye surgery isn't cheap you know?
@mattjoes, quoting my post doesn't help to reduce its dispersion. ;)

@mattjoes This isn't eye surgery, but it still is a temporal remedy (Hopefully).
It's the general direction the MCU has been going in, where there isn't drama or stakes anymore, and characters that used to have meat to them are just being treated like jokes. Don't even want to know how they're going to screw with Daredevil now, after he had such a compelling run in a good TV show. It's depressing how quickly things fell off in just a few years since Endgame. Who knew that film would also be the endgame for what was great about the MCU?
It still has the problem of still not being funny, save for a couple of moments with Roth and Wong.
It sounds to me you take the MCU more seriously than you should, and probably just need to lighten up.
Haha, that's funny! I loved seeing Connery Bond dancing in the background while wearing the Goldfinger towel suit.
@MakeshiftPython, not in the slightest. I have watched two MCU movies since Endgame, it is that inconsequential and meaningless to me at this point. It doesn't even cross my mind anymore, which is why this is the first time I've posted in this thread in who knows how long. It's just a little depressing at times to be reminded of how the stories that were being told then versus the ones being told now, and how steep the decline has been. It's like running into an old friend you really loved hanging out with a decade back but so much time has passed and they're just a mess of a person. Hard not to remember what they were, and are no longer.
I agree. I’m a fan of most of the characters, but there’s too much world building and no breathing room to enjoy the products themselves individually. Plus a lot of the actors are way too opinionated.
Ford would make a great Thunderbolt Ross/Red Hulk, after the sad loss of William Hurt I can't think of a better actor.
100% (and more) agree!
The MCU is those things now, but didn't used to be. I certainly see more to it than what it is now. These films are as close to Greek myths as our society/culture will get these days. These characters are the beacons we should look to for inspiration, in the best case. And through the stories that were told, specifically with Captain America (who was always my favorite), these stories can transcend their medium and become something more. Spider-Man 2 is the best example I can think of when I think of a superhero story that transcended its genre and its conventions to be something moving, powerful and stirring. It, like the old MCU, had more goals than to act more politically correct than it really was, and to be funny but not actually being funny at all.
But as time goes on, there is more of a doubling down on nostalgia for its own sake in these kinds of movies, and not out of any great desire to tell a good story. And that's how we get films like NWH, that relies on the crutch of older, better films and the memories viewers have of them rather boldly (and interestingly) telling a story of its own. It's a shame people keep eating it up, which tells the studios to shove more of it out. But as we've seen with Star Wars, Disney is highly skilled at diluting a brand and oversaturating it to death.
