Great news as this is one I'm really looking forward to.

I hope EON/MGM/Annapurna/whomever do the same with B25. It's tiresome to wait the whole two weeks after UK release. I know they've used the time to try to build up anticipation for the film stateside in the past. It worked for SF but flopped dramatically for SP so perhaps they'll go for the coordinated release as well.

@JamesBondKenya, I actually reside mainly in Canada these days, although I did live in the UK for many years as a kid and went to school and uni there (saw most of Brozza's films for the first time in London). I've also lived in the US (on work), Singapore and Nigeria. Parents moved around a bit when I was younger.

Black Panther is inspiring people to adopt black cats from shelters. This is good news for domestic mini-panthers everywhere.

I need to see this, this might actually hold me over until Bond 25. But the idea of it being similar to Bond is linked to this movie... Now EON/MGM/Annapurna or Whoever Distributes is going to feel the pressure to top this when Bond 25.

On a lighter note, what does everybody think about that Pray For Me song?

I honestly saw limited similarities to Bond and don't understand where the media got this idea from. There a few scenes (interrogation, casino, city night shots, gadget handout) which are reminiscent of Bond and SF in particular, but apart from that not much else. Moreover, there is overt CGI use in BP, and I'd strongly prefer that the Bond team stay away from that in the next film (they've already used it too much in the last one in particular).

Very good lyrically and has an excellent beat. Evokes the character well. Certainly significantly better than the woeful whiny tripe dished out for B24.

I saw similarities in the first half of the film. The second half of the film was completely devoid of anything remotely like a Bond film.
But Shuri basically being the Q of the movie was a big connection.

@Agent007391 true. I suppose Coogler's statements about what he was going for prior to release plays into it a bit also.

In France, it's at 2 442 053 seats sold, which puts it (so far) in third place, after Les Tuche 3 : Liberté, Égalité, FraterniTuche (5 267 908 seats) and Fifty Shades Freed (2 555 399 seats). But that could change.

Wow. I'm loving that. The longer the better for this one as far as I'm concerned.

Black Panther is currently at $931Million. Is tracking about $70+Million opening weekend in China. It will cross a $Billion by this Saturday and be number 1 for the 4th week running.

Unbelievable. This one took me by surprise I don't mind saying. I didn't see it coming and would have lost all bets.

@bondjames One of 2 very big surprises in recent months - the other being Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with $930 million World Wide on a $90 million budget.

Indeed @DaltonCraig007. I would have lost that bet too. I was recently able to pick up a copy of Jumanji (don't ask how) and will give it a viewing tonight. I'm curious to see what the big deal was. It totally stole SW 8-TLJ's thunder over the holidays.

@bondjames I very much look forward to your review afterwards, I think the film fits right into what you are asking for other big blockbuster franchises (a certain spy franchise in particular ;-) ).

Yes, to be honest I thought BP would be lucky to touch $700million but with the cultural hype that went into overdrive from January and Jumanji's inexplicable impressive BO I knew BP would do well and HAD to do better than Jumanji but still, I didn't expect a $Billion to be on the cards and within a month and all the records it's broken....the film my dad always wanted to see when he was a boy and now me at 33 get to see it with him and share it with my daughter. This film means a lot to me and I'm so glad it's a critical and commercial titan.
