It's a shame to hear that Mark went from being a respected critic to a despised forum troll. How the mighty can fall...

Surely I can't be the only one who loved the IMDb Kermodes? Harmless, as well as funny in their absurd fascination with flared trousers, Wellington boots and Police Academy Movies. And those "film analyses"! I hesitate to even call them trolls.

Just me? I'll be on my way, then.

Edit: okay, maybe in some way, they were disruptive to the community in adding those fake movies to the database. But they weren't aggresive in message board conversations. They were, well... always reasonable and sensible.

I never visited the IMDb boards, so this is all over my head. I was just trying to make a joke about this nutty (and awesome) bloke:

Hello, everyone. This is ringfire from the ghost town of IMDB over in the next county (or is it parish?). ...I am confident that fellow IMDBers like pking and shark and jay-dubya pepper and others will vouch for me.
Oh, hi ring! About time you came, so we have someone to give us the criteria for being a REAL Bond fan. Just don't scare off the older members here, they are not into those IMDb board tropes yet.

Mr Kermode - whom I believe is an ardent Craig hater! - is on https://www.themoviedb.org/

    He's renamed himself 'Potential Kermode':

    A Craig hater ?

He's a bit late after 4 films isn't he with his 'Daniel Craig is not Bond' vision !!

Kermode is not a Craig hater. He's an avid fan of CR, SF, and SP, and had nothing but praise when commenting on Craig's performance in those three films.

We're not speaking of the grand Brit critic, they are referring to an unsavory ex-IMDb commentator that used to cause trouble (and who robbed Dr. Kermode of his name).

Yes, and there seems to be some confusion in this thread between the two. Perhaps that's all part of his plan though?

Fleming knows I've had a damn hard time delineating them for others, and it didn't help that I attempted to make a very esoteric joke about Kermode that confused people even more.

Yes, maybe this was part of his master plan all along. Genius.

Over time, there were scores or even more "Kermode" combination screen names, most likely all made up by the same guy. Just like there were endless sockpuppets containing the "Shatner" name, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Not everything they did was trolling, but it is very likely that those idiots with their multiple personalities were part of what brought the IMDb boards down.

A bunch of fake Shatner commenters, eh? I bet that had you shouting, "COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON," daily.

Hello, everyone. This is ringfire from the ghost town of IMDB over in the next county (or is it parish?). I'm not in possession of rings or cards of any sort, but quite honestly I don't believe this is necessary in my case. I have GOLDFINGER in my top 4 which of course qualifies me as a REAL Bond fan. I believe these credentials speak for themselves. I am confident that fellow IMDBers like pking and shark and jay-dubya pepper and others will vouch for me.

    @ringfire211

Good to have you here. You will probably just remember me as Phil, aka he who loves tournaments.

The IMDB Kermode - not the BBC film critic! - posted Youtube videos saying how much he thought EON had ruined the Bond films. He moaned about the dreary plots and Craig's casting. He was the ultimate anti-Craig Bond fan. Many anti-Craigers compromised and accepted Craig but Kermode was defiant to the end!

My mistake, then. I haven't really been following this thread as of late.

This is our clean break opportunity to be free-and-clear of Kermodes and Shats, but what do we bring up?

Kermodes and Shats. Shats and Kermodes.

Kermode is a nut. He had more sock's than a menswear shop.

He basically spent his entire time on the IMDB board trolling the Craig films.

Now, I have no issue with people sharing their opinion, hell I am not as much of a fan of the Craig era( sans Casino Royale) as most.

He, on the other hand, felt the need to constantly make threads about Craig, and then shoehorn it into other, completely unrelated ones.

I agree with Nackers...if either of them show up on here, report them so the mods can keep an eye on them.

As far as I can tell, it seems like the best of us have made the move. Great to see.

Reminds me of another certain poster who felt the need to bring up another certain film whenever he could.

    I miss him already.

Ha Shark, yeah I miss him too.

In fairness to Bap, he could be funny on occasion and certainly was no Kermode.

If Quantum Of Solace was a person though, Bap would have surely spent every night peeking in through their window.

  • Ah yes, my REAL card is on standby as always. Ready to be whipped out at a moment's notice.

Thank you all for letting me join. I don't know how often I'll be posting here but if I ever need to chime in I'll know exactly where to go. I'm also quite happy that I finally got around to giving myself a proper avatar which I believe best describes by Bondian palette.

In any case nice to see you all here and I'm sure I'll see you around...

And just for old times sake... Connery, Moore, and Brosnan. Accept no substitutes!
