@CrzChris4 I'm with you on DH4. I quite enjoyed it as well and think they did McClane justice. The broken dynamic with his daughter sort of mirrored the earlier situation with his wife, and his trajectory was believable. The back and forth with the cyber geek Farrell was also interesting to watch and that first setpiece at the kid's home was pure DH quality.

My only complaints are the PG rating (McClane is a lesser man without the swearing and I'd have preferred some 80's style blood and gore), killing off Maggie Q so quickly (unacceptable imho), Tim Olyphant's dull villain and the horrendous CGI thing with the jet fighter.

It was still a worthy sequel imho.

Alan Rickman was great in Die Hard, but I think his best roles were in Perfume: The Story Of a Murderer and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

yes, DH should NEVER be PG. Honestly-- what were they thinking?? That a hard R-rated film series to date, was suddenly going to crowd the cineplexes with kiddies to watch uncle Bruce be cute with a millennial?

DH4 was watchable-- and yes I got the call back that he's an old (vibrant! badd ass!) man living in a New World (he's always been uncomfortable with technology), and his struggle with Lucy is similar to the one he had with Holly (these are all very good points), but the film didn't necessarily feel like a DH and McClane adventure anymore.

It was the first steps to Bruce Willis starring as Bruce Willis (as an asshole) in a film with DIE HARD in its title. They shoulda given him a thinning toupee-- woulda gone a long way, in my opinion...

The next film though, would take the cake.

I wonder if it will ever see the light of day, considering where both Wiseman and Willis are in their careers (they're not exactly lighting the Box Office on fire-- and, in Willis' case, he's half-asleep in his VOD efforts... sad, he did have an old-school tough guy thing about him at one time; now he just comes off as an A-1 asshole).
For Willis, I think Glass will be a hit, but he'll have help: Shyamalan and MacAvoy post-Split, plus Samuel L. Jackson. What I'm curious about is Death Wish. Eli Roth directs, but I think it's mostly up to Willis' drawing power to make the film a hit. I don't know if he'll manage to. Willis hasn't had a really big hit in four years, and a non-Die Hard hit in five (Looper). He used to bounce back from failure quickly, but this has been a long stretch of failure. At any rate, that's mostly by his own choice I think. He just wants to make quick money in VOD, which is a damn shame.

Willis none acting in Die Hard 5 was bad even for him, I remember little about the film.

The face he made when cashing that ridiculously fat paycheck from the film.

It isn't remotely a good installment in the series, but I really did enjoy the car chase throughout Russia. Very well done in most parts.

It's all in the eyes. Willis' eyes used to be very alive. Now they are very narrow and "dead." That's the case even in the Death Wish trailer so I'm not sure he put in much effort. He still seems more alive than in other recent films, though.

He's been phoning it in and raking in the dough for years, sadly. He is on form in a few movies here and there in recent years, but not many.

I love NORTH BY NORTHWEST and don't feel it's in the least bit overrated. That said, I do tend to be in the mood for some of the others more often: SUSPICION, ROPE, TROUBLE WITH HARRY, REAR WINDOW and VERTIGO.

Some popular movies I'm not a big fan of (can be anywhere from neutral to strongly dislike):

-Pulp Fiction (and any other Tarantino film)
    -Lethal Weapon
    -The Sound of Music
    -Frozen
    -The Avengers
    -Titanic
    -Avatar
    -Gravity
    -Moonlight
    -The Hunger Games
-Monty Python and the Holy Grail
    -Elf
    -Home Alone
-Toy Story 2 (not bad, but pretty darn overrated; 1 and 3 are way better)
-Memento (also not bad, but really overhyped)
    -Ratatouille
    -Cars
-Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    -The Wolf of Wall Street
    -Casino

Star Trek V is an underrated film. Yeah it has it's flaws but the good parts of it really outweigh the negatives. It also feels like an episode of TOS. I like Nimbus III and Paradise City. Sybok is an interesting foil. I don't consider him a villain since he didn't do anything heinous but I do think he is charismatic. I wonder what the character would have been like if Sean Connery played him as originally intended.

I agree it’s underrated. Still my least favorite of the original run, but more enjoyable for me than most of the Trek stuff we’ve gotten for a long while. Actually still felt like Star Trek.

I don't know about Rear Window but I agree on North by Northwest and Vertigo. Still all fine movies. The Birds might be my least favourite of his.

I really to get some Hitchcock films in my library. I only have TROUBLE WITH HARRY, NORTH BY NORTHWEST and TO CATCH A THIEF. My favorite Hitchcock might actually be ROPE.

In other controversial opinions, I tend to sometimes prefer the Studio final cut of well beloved movies as opposed to the director's cut.
For instance I like the voice over narrated BLADE RUNNER more than the 1992 or whatever version and the Final Cut.

Far more controversial, I actually prefer the Universal Studios cut of TOUCH OF EVIL with the opening credits over the late 1990's restored version. Welle's vision was certainly far ahead of it's time, though as most movies now save their titles until the end.

    Which leads me to this:

I loathe with a passion this current style of not having any titles until the film is over. Most movies follow this trend today and it immediately turns me off. I dread the day Eon will ever see fit to omit the beautiful opening title sequences in the Bonds.
I also find the trend in the current superhero films of having a short end scene after the credits that teases the next entry.
When SKYFALL opened I had someone ask me if there was in fact, a scene after the credits giving us a teaser to the plot of the next film.

    I said "No".

Never cared much for the Mafia/Mob films. They never captured my attention.

The Godfather or any of its sequels. I had never seen any except for bits of the first.

    Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface etc.

I for one really don’t care much for superhero movies.

The only exceptions are Burton’s Batman films and The Rocketeer.

All the others don’t do much for me and I really don’t get why they are praised so much.

@ToTheRight I doubt EoN will drop their famed title sequences. We've had "title credit revolutions" in Bond's lifetime before and the Bond titles have persevered as always. If it changes, it'll be in aesthetic, not in its placement in the films.

This. Can't get excited about new superhero movies. More of the same every time. Nolan's Batman films were a bit of fresh air, but by the last one, even that had become predictable.

Why bother rebooting Spider-Man again, for example?

The title sequence and theme song are set in stone re the Bond movies! EON would never get rid of that part (unless Sam Mendes continues to direct!) "Cant we just have Bond enter the scene with a loud music cue with name of the film above his head?"

You know what, it never occurred to me that something like that could happen, but they did shit all over the gunbarrel for 4 movies do it could possible happen in the next actors tenure. Wow that would be awful no matter what they replaced it with, it would no longer be bond.

With regards to superhero films, I’ve grown up with them so I do enjoy some, but after this year and last year I’m done. Doctor strange, Thor ragnarok, and justice league were just shite. They were boring and silly and just rehashes. I did however enjoy homecoming. I will watch the avengers 3 and another spider man but I’m done for all this aqua man shit and black panther and cyborg and Wonder Woman and all that nonsense

The other possibility is there could still be a classic traditional Binder inspired titles sequence........only placed at the end a'la the DC and Marvel films. Then when we're ranking our favorite PTS in the series, the entire movie would qualify.
Horrifying thought, really, but the tampering with the gunbarrel has left me with a lack of trust in Eon's embracing of tradition.

I have to admit I am getting a little tired of Daniel Kleinmans title sequences! I think less is more should be his inspiration. Loved what he did with CR but both SF and SP are overdone. I actually like what the guys did with QOS, it wasnt as overcomplicated! If Kleinman comes back for Bond 26, he needs to reinvent, up his game!

Yes exactly! I don’t like the weird cgi worlds that they do in Qos, SF, and SP where it’s just bond roaming around in some animated bullshit dark world. CR is fitting for the film and QOS isn’t bad because the colors are good and theirs some ladies but I really like the bond titles with lots of ladies and not much of bond for example by far and away my favorite titles of the whole series are the ones in FRWL, they should do something like that for the next one.

I agree on the SP sequence. It's obviously well made but just so dull and feels too much like the SF title sequence. Always loved the QOS and SF sequences however.
I think Kleinman's best work is in GE and DAD.
I prefer CR! There were parts of SP titles that i love but as i've said, he's overdoing it, and SF was just as guilty.
I wudnt object to guys from QOS having another go for Bond 26.

The QoS titles left a great deal to be desired. Too repetitive and featured some dispponting imagery (the spinning globe and the women in the Egyptian wall painting-like pattern). Kleinman is terrific, even a step up from Binder in several respects (especially late Binder). Yes, by now I think he has to change some things up, things that are beginning to grow a bit stale. He should use Bond less and the women more, and perhaps make his sequences a bit more streamlined and simple-- throw less images at the viewer. But those things aside, he's terrific and inventive.
