Did not know that Strong and Craig lived together in 1996, starred together in some BBC-series (both with long hair) and that Craig is the godfather to one of Strong's children.

Yes that series was Our Friends In The North- that was both of theirs big break; certainly the first time I’d heard of either of them. They co-starred with Gina McKee and Christopher Eccleston who had both been around a bit more but it increased their profiles too.
Not just long hair: they aged over several decades!

"Our Friends..." is a domestic series for british viewers, hasn't been shown on foreign networks, at least not in scandinavia. That's why I never heard of it.

I'm from Germany and I love "Our Friends in the North". Have seen it twice.
It's the BBC at its best, and one of the best TV series ever from the UK.

A scene from an uneven film. It's OK, has a young Felicity Jones in it. But it isn't nearly as good when Craig isn't on screen (which is about half the film). This scene is magic.

Yeh a great scene, very memorable.

Flashbacks of a Fool is one of my favourite Craig films and has a fine cast including Strong, Jones, Olivia Williams, and Helen McCrory. A very personal project for many involved, and unfortunately a very under-the-radar film.

Brilliant soundtrack too, with the best use of Roxy Music I have ever seen on film.

Two nuggets of NTTD production info in the latest issue of MI6 Confidential:

Ralph Fiennes chose one of the paintings for M's office:
For M's office in No Time to Die, production designer Mark Tildesley wanted Ralph Fiennes' M to put his own touch on the classic set, so he invited the actor to pick out a piece of artwork that he felt was in line with his character and the story. Fiennes chose 'Nash: Battle Of Germany' (1944), an oil painting by British surrealist painter and war artist Paul Nash. It depicts an abstract view of a German city awaiting aerial bombardment.

Jamaican actor Munair Zacca (San Moniquan hotel receptionist, LALD) chats about NTTD:
Munair learned that the latest 007 epic would feature two actresses of Jamaican background in major roles - Lashana Lynch and Naomie Harris.

"They were also interviewing people in Kingston for small roles. I think they were just looking for people off the streets, extras. They weren't looking for actors. They had one speaking role for a barber. But I don't think I looked like what they wanted. Anyway, I didn't hear anything back."

Though he didn't get the role, Munair was already the veteran of an earlier Bond classic.

Could we see Bond getting a shave at the barber before his trip to Cuba? Or perhaps Felix getting his head shaved before meeting Bond?

I let my subscription lapse. I have to renew.

Does the latest issue solve the mystery of the paintings in Bond's flat in SP?
@TripAces I had a look in the magazine, and sadly, there is no info about the paintings in Bond's flat, only the stolen paintings seen in Blofeld's lair. Notably, the magazine also says that a painting by Jackson Pollock, 'Number 3, 1949: Tiger' is featured in the credits, but not spotted in the release cut - however, I have always believed that painting can be seen when Bond first arrives at the lair. The painting is inside the lobby, rotated 90° on its side.

I'm not sure what it means (if anything), but the hashflags, those emoji's you get when using a certain hashtag on Twitter, have disappeared for NTTD and other related hashtags. Previously, when using #NoTimeToDie, #JamesBond, #Bond25 and even #BondJamesBond, you got either a 007 or a DB5 behind the hashtag.
Last time they were gone, they served as a sort of warning signal that the film would be delayed as the marketing campaign was pulled. Then the marketing came back, and the hashflags as well. Strangely enough, they stayed up even after the movie was delayed again, up until now. Perhaps they're waiting to relaunch them when the marketing campaign kicks off for a third time?

Just out of interest, anyone else getting strong classic Bond vibes from No Time to Die, while also feeling kinda fresh. And I'm not just saying that to compliment it or whatever, it's just a feeling I've had since we saw that first trailer...

I can't put my finger on it exactly but every time I think about No Time to Die it really makes me nostalgic about the Moore era in particular, and in another way, the film feels like a fresh glass of water with a nice breeze haha :D

    ...so far.

You've nailed it mate, that's exactly how I feel about it. I'm getting a really good feeling from it. Fingers crossed it translates to the film

I get what you’re saying! However for me it looks more 60s classic Bond, and less like Moore. Sort of a mix of Dr. No and You Only Live Twice.

I'm just guessing but a nod to past movies and Fleming stories in diff. scenes like props, maybe lines by the actors, music choice/detail, Bond handguns, two vintage cars, what Craig is wearing like a detail, paintings in Ms office, look at Safin's character/lair, etc

Babs & co are pretty good at including the past. Nothing happends by chance so to speak.

It's the same thing with royals. If you see let's say a royal wedding, there are details everywhere as a nod and/or tribute to the past/dead royals

I wonder if this film is going to involve Bond rediscovering his talents and getting back to his best, similar to Skyfall?
Bond was out of action in Skyfall for months and he was rusty to say the least, what's he going to be like after 5 years?

The nods to prior Bond films apparently abound. The rope jump off the bridge in Matera is a bit reminiscent of the PTS in GE, the newer Aston in Bond's own possession looks like the one T Dalton drove in TLD, the older Aston, of course, has been used so often it's more difficult to call it an hommage to its first appearances with S Connery in GF and TB. Bond's outfit going in for what seems to be the final battle, with suspenders, is a b-i-t reminiscent of R Moore's invade-the-island outfit in LALD, though that was all black and had a shoulder holster for a larrrrge revolver, rather than suspenders. Safin sure gives off a DN vibe, as does his lair, with the tunnels and the "this is where the evil magic happens" room. After a while, this gets more and more tenuous -- such as the reference I made to the LALD invasion outfit, and the bridge jump -- since, come on, if someone suits up for action they're bound to remind you of an earlier time, for one example. But it's fun to see, even if the whiffs of recall are unintentional and are barely there, if at all.

I think it's a lot to do with what can only call a "special sequence structure" that we seem to be getting. I don't how to explain it, but the Moore-era in particular for me had this special kind of sequence-structure with its action and locations that made it almost feel like a series of vignettes with a narrative throughline, even more so than other Bond films. Skyfall also kinda gave me that feeling.

I think also because we seem to be getting bigger and bolder action sequences, along with this weird description I've given, it feels a lot more classic...

I would also say Spectre actually came close to this, but was completely undone by its visual tone and story.

Again I'm finding it hard to put into words haha, so I hope someone gets me :D

That is a good point, yeah. So much was made of him being 'out of step' in Skyfall it would seem a bit weird for him to be automatically amazing again this time around, but then it would be a bit repetitious to go through all that stuff again. Maybe we can explain it with Bond being a bit depressed/suffering from shock in Skyfall?

Yeah I think that explain it with Bond in Skyfall. I mean he retired after Spectre. In Skyfall he was forced out of action and cheated death. Good thinking mate

I want Bond to be, after five years of retirement in Jamaica, completely bored with civil life and hungry for a new adventure. So when Felix comes knocking, he’s eager to go. Full on Bond mode 😎

Felix: I need a favour brother, you’re the only one I trust for this.
    Bond: Yep. I’m in.
Felix: But you dont know what it is I need your help with.
Bond: Mate I am so bored, there’s only so much Heineken swigging you can do ‘round these parts. Let’s go!

After 5 years though I do wonder if hes abit like jamie lee curtis in the latest "Halloween". Where he might still do target practice and stuff to stay in the game. He is seen sporting that harpoon gun in Jamaica isnt he? And a pistol in one photo?

Yep, recovering from a gunshot wound, massive fall and feeling a bit betrayed is a lot different from retiring from the service to an island paradise.

Yes good point, he seems to be keeping more active in Jamaica than he was in Turkey - he's actually fishing (possibly even spearfishing as Fleming was keen on that) and sailing in Jamaica, as opposed to sitting on his bed drinking cheap beer in Turkey :D

Ah, yes - a good point. This is a bit of a problem with some of the corners they've backed themselves into with the narrative. If Bond is 'out of shape' again, and needs more training to get back into shape, again . . . well it's a bit repetitive, isn't it?

  • This might be completely bonkers and is pure speculation. I have been watching Craigs run of bond films quite a bit as of recent as im sure a few others might have. On one of my more recent watches of “SPECTRE”
I started thinking Mr White, is that a name he is assigned? to protect his real identity. Then as “SPECTRE” carried on bond met Mr White for the final time and he told him where he could find madeline I then started thinking about her name, Madeline Swann. Now im sure this is a long shot but I found it kind of interesting.

Putting both there last names together and what do you get… White Swann, or as I was thinking the play, White Swan. I then started thinking what is the story about…hear is a brief summary.

“It features Prince Siegfried and a lovely swan princess named Odette. Under the spell of a sorcerer, Odette spends her days as a swan swimming on a lake of tears and her nights in her beautiful human form. The couple quickly falls in love.”

Now this got me thinking even further, does Madeline fall in love with safin (like Elektra & renard, ie Stockholm syndrome) back then, and she eventually manages to leave him then going into hiding. Let us not forget when bond catches up with her in “SPECTRE” he actually says “How does one train at Oxford and the sorbonne become a consultant, spend two years with medicines sans frontieres and end up here? Forgive me, but anyone might think you where hiding from something?”

Now firstly it made me think she was hiding out here to get away from safin. & two did she study with safin in these medicines or was his profession different? (This is probably too on the nose, like bond and blofeld being stepbros)

Im sure this is well off base and maybe alittle too in the fantastical. But I thought I would just share my thoughts on here. be interesting to hear what anyone has to say.

wow thats cool & thank you, I've been on here for awhile but usually just read other comments and not post too much. Great site btw "Mi6 community" I guess the anticipation for "NTTD" is slowly building (fingers crossed we get it in October) and has caused me to need to talk just a little about bond.
