From The Sunday Times' article: "This is his first big interview in years..." Talk about being pretentious. :-/ Good interview though.

That interview pretty much encapsulates everything that makes me like him so much. He's an intelligent guy he just doesn't stand for the BS and I think the interviewer appreciates this as well.

His honesty, his frankness, he was different type of actor to play Bond but I think his legacy will only go to enrich the series, his portrayal won't be forgotten come the next guy.

I get the vibe like everyone had when they were promoting Skyfall, really proud and just wanted to show it to the world, the difference being that the big moments had already been spoiled by the press.

They are definitely playing damage limitation here what with M's death being leaked and the whole kit and caboodle of SPECTRE out there before the film is even released.

If we have to pay the price of not knowing more about the production is walking into the cinema and seeing something that hasn't been spoiled, the frustration that some feel due to not knowing what they'd like to, will all be worthwhile.

NTTD has the potential to be the one film of this era that is a real surprise for the viewer. The idea of walking into the cinema with some idea about it but still have plenty to unpack is frankly a delicious prospect.

As for Knives Out, I'm chomping at the bit to see this, a number of reasons, first I was bought up on whodunnits, Rian Johnson also seems to have reinvented a genre that many would have thought had been played out.

Johnson and Craig are possibly unleashing a new style of this type of story on the world and running with it. The idea of DC reprising Benoit Blanc is much more exciting than Kenneth Branagh remaking classic Christie Poirot stories that already have more than adequate versions and in the case of Orient Express and outright jewel in the crown of this genre.

Also hearing him say that he is still excited by acting and is striving to be better is also exciting. He already seems to have reminded people he is an actor of some wide range despite his naysayers claiming he is one note.

It does feel like he is done and that this is a definitive full stop for him though from his tone though.

Possibly Danny Boyle , or Christopher Nolan, will join you.

So that he can finally realise his Bondmovie? :-?

Loved that interview. He went a bit deeper into what makes him tick which i appreciated.

Craig has always been a no nonsense - straight shooter, which makes him a great actor but not always the best Promoter of films.

Loved the quote about him not carring whether he's liked. He let's his work speak for itself and you can see his commitment on screen.

And I liked that he called out the Interviewer on trying to start some crap. We need more of that kind of celebrity in the future.

Michaels and Daniels comments on NTTD helped me get more excited for the film. I think they will go all out on the marketing in 2020. This will be something different.

I've seen "Knives Out" at the London Film Festival last month, and I believe people will be suprised in a very positive way by that movie. Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc is like seeing Johnny Depp for the first time as Captain Jack Sparrow in 2003.
I believe this is a perfect role for Craig to play in more movies directed by Johnson. Maybe he will make it to five as he did with Bond.

Really excited about Knives Out (maybe even more so than NTTD). I just love whodunnits.

“Well, I’d like to give you a breakdown of my week, but people would just think I was complaining,” he explains, his voice gruff and loud, a man you could understand perfectly in a packed bar. “But every day has an intensity to it. We’re trying to make the best f****** Bond movie we can. Pulling out all the stops. If we aim for the stars, we might hit the treetops.” He pauses, briefly. “The most interesting thing? Yesterday I was up to my neck in water for 12 hours.”
    ...
“This may be hard to believe,” Craig continues, “but I love the fact I’m Bond. We’re in rare air, making Bond movies. It is one of the most intense, fulfilling things I’ve ever done, but it takes a lot of energy and I’m getting old. I’m getting creaky. And so what I do outside of that has got to be really good.”
    ...
I ask if he is happy to talk about the notoriously secret new Bond. “Yeah, yeah,” he replies. First, forget that daft misreading of an interview Craig did in 2015, in which he apparently said he would rather slash his wrists than make another 007 film. What he actually said was: “Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment.” He was always contracted to make No Time to Die, and all he meant was that he wanted a break. Now he has had one, and so, after Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, we get to see him put on the DJ again.

The big news this time is that Phoebe Waller-Bridge has a writing credit. Was it his idea to get her in? “Yeah.” What will she bring to Bond? “You’ll have to wait and see!” he shouts, before laughing. “But she’s just brilliant. I had my eye on her ever since the first Fleabag [TV series], and then I saw Killing Eve and what she did with that and just wanted her voice. It is so unique — we are very privileged to have her on board.”

When I met Craig in 2014, for Spectre, we talked about misogyny in Bond, and the actor said he was pleased that, by casting Monica Bellucci as 007’s similarly aged lover in the film, a dialogue had been started about sexism, wage disparities and similar issues. Waller-Bridge is only the second woman to have a writing credit during the franchise’s 57-year history, after Johanna Harwood on Dr No and From Russia with Love. A cynic might suggest the new recruit has been chosen to help the film look more representative.

“Well, I think Phoebe coming on...” Craig begins. “She has been asked many times about what she is going to do, and her answer is that we’re not really going to change anything. He’s James Bond. But, of course, it’s a different angle to come at ...”

    He stops and draws breath.

“Look, we’re having a conversation about Phoebe’s gender here, which is f****** ridiculous. She’s a great writer. Why shouldn’t we get Phoebe onto Bond? That’s the answer to that. I know where you’re going, but I don’t actually want to have that conversation. I know what you’re trying to do, but it’s wrong. It’s absolutely wrong. She’s a f****** great writer. One of the best English writers around. I said, ‘Can we get her on the film?’ That’s where I came from.”
    ...
And, finally, before he heads back to work, what will he miss most about Bond? “I’ll miss my friends,” he says, as quiet as he has been all chat. “I’ve worked with many of these people for 15 years now, and that will be a real jar. I’ll see them again, but this is a special atmosphere, on a Bond set.”

    Terrific job! Thanks for posting.

As for what I have bolded: most people, who read that entire interview in 2015, knew exactly what he was getting at. It is really too bad (but not surprising) that he had to keep explaining himself for years.

    Agreed.

Thanks for posting guys. I really appreciated not having to get a copy or something today. The interview was definitely, I guess, more Craig-centric than Bond-centric. But I quite like that. I like that he doesn't mince his words. Even when I (briefly) met him a few years ago he struck me as very old school and he's a very strange blend of introverted-yet-not-shy-yet-confident.

He's definitely not best to promote the movies but he just says what he thinks at the time and he's not exactly Mr. PR soundbites. It's refreshing.

It's one of the reasons he fears interviews. LOL.

I loved the 2012 Rolling Stone interview in which he admitted to seeing a therapist and dealing with his demons.

Don’t worry, since Weinstein’s fall we haven’t heard much from her. I couldn’t even name what she’s done post-Mother!.

Oh, I guess X-Men, but she doesn’t really act in those.

Wasn't Red Sparrow post-Weinstein? Anyway, I just find her insufferable. If she's on a chat show or something, I just turn off.

Really loved some of the quotes from that interview. The vibe around the film is very secretive but very exciting and optimistic too! I definitely get the feeling NTTD is his last. Never say never (again), but it’s looking pretty likely.

Interesting if true. Was looking forward to what he would come up with, but at least it is not a last minute replacement.

Just a rumour? Or do they have a reliable source?
