I just heard on the radio that when Henry Cavill auditioned for Casino Royale, he was told that he was a little fat. Obviously he has ripped up since then. He said that being told this motivated him to do so.

    Baby fat, surely.

Naomie Harris is at it again, trying to sound more important than she probably will be. Like when she was interviewed before SF and branded herself "a new kind of Bond girl":

'In Bond 25 you have four strong, intelligent women who are responsible for driving the plot forward,' the star - who reprises her role of Eve Moneypenny - said. 'They've never had that in Bond before.'

    Eh? Thunderball?

@Zekidk Only two of those really had an effect on the plot tbh, Fiona and Domino. Plus not to mention Domino being flawed in other ways. Fiona is probably one of the strongest female characters of the franchise imo, and that’s not because she’s a villain.

I’m not liking the sound of this at all.

I hope bond seduces Armas , Lynch turns traitor and bond kills her, Madeline meets her demise and Moneypenny stays at her desk or does light field work

Gets me curious. So far have there been any "this time it's personal" quotes from the cast, crew or media?

I've been getting the impression, in spite of Bond coming out of retirement, we may be getting a straight forward mission this time.

Until it’s revealed in the final 30 minutes Safin is the one who killed Bond’s parents and is the real author of all his pain!

...we’ll see. I expect some emotional angles as it is a staple of the era. I don’t mind too much so long as it’s not done as poorly as SP.

From Barbara in the Empire issue:
We always like to have a very personal trial for him emotionally, put him up against something that he finds difficult to deal with emotionally. And we've thrown the book at him in this one.

It seems it may start as a straightforward mission (in terms of Leiter getting Bond to come out of retirement) though...

That spoiler made me laugh. I didn't mind the personal angles in SF. I felt it was much executed in t hat film than SP.

In all great stories in this genre, it’s the villain that drives the plot. It will be his or her plan that has our hero jumping into action. And as both Malek and Barbra Broccoli have stated, the villain really is going to be putting Bond through the ringer. They didn’t say “and he will also being doing the same to the women (since they play just as important a role as Bond)”.

This is still a James Bond film.

So the actresses can push this narrative, but in the end they will be supporting the story (as Felix will be supporting the story, and M and Q). But the story will ultimately be Safin vs Bond.

I’m sure Nomi will have her “trailer-type” moment where she’s kicking serious ass, but this will be no different than the idea of Wai Lin doing the same thing (although I get the sense Nomi will be more fleshed out and her role will be more three dimensional).

Swann will be the emotional centre to Bond and will be important to the story.

But, once again, all of this will be in support of the a story which revolves around James Bond and the latest obstacles in his life.

Craig may be done at the moment. But I don’t think Barbara is done trying to convince him to stay.

Think so as well. She has stated several times., that she does not want to thin about and not to make a Bond movie without DC, which IMHO leaves open two versions.

    1. desperately trying to lure Craig back for B26.
    2. sell the franchise like Lucas sold Lucsafilm to Disney.

Big +1. It’s silly to think Bond won’t be the focus of a Bond film.

Well, that’s how it works. People watch a movie and critique it. If the above happens and people want to vent about it, it’s all good by me. What’s stupid is people like yourself acting like it’s a given based on a sum total of sweet FA. Why allow yourself the anxiety? Chill out.

Why not? We've listened to yours and the complaints of various others for a very long time now, right?

At least after the fact criticisms will actually have some substance to them.

Let's break up all the stupid bickering in here and look at what Steven Moth, aerial coordinator/chopper pilot on NTTD, has posted. Not much info but still.

A whole new wardrobe courtesy of @007! A real privilege to have worked with such a talented team #notimetodie #aerial

I sure hope so. Chomping at the bit! And it’s less than 5 months away from release!
  • The trailer for Black Widow (which will be released three weeks after NTTD in North America) is out December 3 2019.

Then Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey is out December 8 2019.

I think NTTD is coming next week in time for thanksgiving...............just a hunch.

The brief synopsis for this film is certainly the most straightforward one we’ve had in a long while for Bond. With the Mendes films it was usually more thematic like “M’s past comes back to haunt her”, whereas for NTTD we know it’s about a kidnapped scientist and a mysterious villain with new dangerous technology.

I suspect it can become personal as the mission plays out, as it typically did in Fleming where at first it’s just a job but then past the middle Bond wants to settle not strictly for the mission but out of his own personal desire for the utter hell he was put through.

I’m actually fed up of people saying they just want Bond to bed de Armas and Nomi to die. Absolutely ridiculous statements tbh. Do you know how boring it is for characters to just be dealt with in that way? This is another reason why these changes are being made in the first place...

People will quite happily complain that Severine was just slept with and killed, but then would happily wish that on characters they haven’t even witnessed, because they’re scared of a little progressiveness.

I'll say it: this might suggest that your attitudes toward women are a little off-kilter.

It’s exactly the attitude that has meant the franchise has needed serious overhauling in the scriptwriting process. You can call me “woke” or whatever you want but you all know how much of a Bond fan I am, and I think the decision to write better female characters, because of previous characters and ongoing attitudes by audiences, is completely on the nose, and this whole process has just proved it even further in my eyes.

I’m in no way saying that the franchise has never had any strong female characters, but with every Vesper there’s a Solange, and with every Tracy there’s a Fields. Although the sacrificial lambs and the underdeveloped female characters only there for their looks completely outweigh the stronger characters we could mention.

In other news, nice to see that the Black Widow trailer might be released on my birthday. Love me some Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh. Two great actresses :)

And? What do you suggest? Give every female character tripple the screentime? Why even focus on Bond if we can make the films just about the 'strong female characters'.
This is not going to change. Movies have secondary characters, and less important ones than that. That's it (also i thought Solange was a very well written and acted character). Why not complain about all the male characters that get killed after 3 minutes of screentime with next to no memorable line? You will find many more of those.

People are buying into tabloid trash about the franchise being sexist.

James Bond is NOT supposed to be a beacon of moral standards. That would be the most boring thing imaginable.
There is no point in watering the character down and make him save just to appease people who never gave a f about this franchise in the first place.
James Bond is a Killer, he's a drinker, and he's a chauvinist. Thats why we keep watching him, believe it or not. We wanna see him do stuff that isn't necessarily normal by social norms. If i want a moral lesson about perfect, respectful relationships i go and watch my friends. I don't need to pay for a movie Ticket. It's real life and it's boring.
