Completely different, yes. They built a new chassis for the film cars, apparently.

Let’s not overreact about the whole “theater experience” with a new Bond movie. Some of our favorite Bond films are actually those we NEVER saw on the big screen. I fell in love with Bond when I saw DR. NO and GOLDFINGER on VHS that I got from the library back in the summer of 2001. Honestly I thought GF was the coolest thing I had ever seen and I was already 20 at the time and had seen my share of action pictures by that point in time. But there was this magic that was undeniable, even viewing it on VHS and not on the big screen. Then when I got to LALD and TSWLM (also on VHS) I was completely floored!!! To this day these 2 remain my favorite Bond films and among my 2 all-time favorite films, right alongside the likes of DIE HARD, GLADIATOR, BEN-HUR, and a few others.

I’ve seen every Bond film in the theater starting with CR and greatly enjoyed both CR and SF. That said, the theater experience did nothing to unseat the sublime VHS experiences that were GF, YOLT, LALD, TSWLM, OP, and others. If a film is great it should be able to stand on its own, no matter what medium you’re using to watch it.

Good point @ringfire211; my first Bond experience was a VHS of GoldenEye with my dad, and it's the reason I'm here twenty or so years later. I've also only seen CR forward in theatres.

Quite a fun game; I'm trying to think which ones I've seen in the cinema. I think I saw FRWL, GF, TB, and YOLT at the NFT on the South Bank in the 90s when they did a Bond season, apart from those I saw TSWLM at the Empire Leicester Square ten years or so ago (with Lewis Gilbert there!), and then after that I think it's probably just GoldenEye onwards which I saw on release.

So ones I really need to see on a big screen would be OHMSS, Moonraker and Daylights, maybe. My dream would be one of those Albert Hall concerts with the orchestra playing the music of either OHMSS or Moonraker! How cool would that be?

I think my favourite to see in a cinema would probably be Goldfinger. There's something about those moments of crackling silence you get with those older movies that are just wonderful in a cinema, do you know what I mean?
Thunderball I still remember as being surprisingly painful! The music in the chase at the junkanoo hits a repeated high whistle note, which when you hear it in a loud cinema is horribly deafening! :D

@mtm very much know what you mean! Come to think of it I have been lucky enough to see some older Bond films in theatres as well, when VanCity Theatre here in Vancouver did a retrospective of the Bond franchise. Can't exactly remember which (should have seen them all, really)... definitely the Dalton films, and GoldenEye.

Seeing OHMSS with a full orchestra would be amazing.

Wouldn't it! I totally understand why they've been doing the Craig films for those concerts as they're the most popular right now, but I'd kill to see a proper Barry score being played; and for my money they're the two best ones (and to think: you could even actually finally get a recording of Moonraker!). But if they ever did a Barry, you know it would just be Goldfinger. Nothing wrong with that of course: it's brilliant, it just wouldn't be my dream choice.

Man the producers 100% made the right call. 2 weeks since they delayed it they are looking real smart to do so.

Yes, they are. Someone saw this coming.

From (I think) OP on I've seen every Bond film in the theater, with the exception of DAD because I was getting annoyed with Brosnan's run and heard it wasn't good. I know for a fact I saw TLD in the theater and loved Dalton so much I was disappointed he only did two films.

I remember TLD coming out and having stickers of the Aston on my lunchbox (from a breakfast cereal?) but I didn't see it, sadly.

EDIT: No, from Trio! :) I definitely had that one of the Aston and the explosion :)

At this rate there wouldn’t any cinemas left open to show it in, anyway.

NTTD was the first film to delay, so it's interesting to see what other films follow.

Ok I know if I posted something like another film delaying a mod would come at me.
  • With all the theatres closing down, most if not all films will be pushed I imagine. It'll either be a jam packed fall, or else into 2021.

I just realized NTTD would have celebrated 2 James Bond days before it's release.

Cool thanks for that: and that's where they shot a bit of Casino Royale so kind of counts as Bond news!

Something a bit weird about all that though.. I get that there's an MI 7 clapperboard in there, but it doesn't look like a real movie sequence to me- there seem to be too many different things going on, and why would any of those be on a runway? And since when does Cruise wear a helmet? Are they sure it's not actually for Top Gear?

This is a must-read. One of my followers wrote: "American Cinematographer" have 13 pages of NTTD tech goodness in their forthcoming april issue, as well as interviews with some DPs from previous Bond films

Maybe he's just practicing some stuntwork.

Yeah that's what I thought, and yet there are cameras... seems a bit weird all in all. Maybe they're practising with the rigs or something but I don't know.
The helicopter which the dumb Mail thinks is part of the sequence I suspect is actually just Cruise's lift to get there! :)

Could be just practice that they filmed to watch back and see where they need to change things up and how it looks on camera. Cruise doesn’t seem to be in character.

Looks like there's a Fiat 500 in their Venice sequence!
