I just hope they would get the get gunbarrel right this time. Last BTS footage from Cary gave me some hope that the gunbarrel will be at start, when he said "white dots on the screen".

Yeah, I want a good & stylish Gunbarrel as well. It's strange that CR's Gunbarrel is still his best, and it's not even the traditional Gunbarrel, but then again Craig's Bond is at his best, when his Bond film isn't entirely traditional. But since lots of things would change in this film, it's possible there might be some inventiveness with the Gunbarrel, which would be good, if done properly....but with all these talks of James Bond dying, which I don't like, I would for the first time, really want the Gunbarrel at the film's end, as I feel it would be more symbolic if the dying rumours are true, just to signify that Bond's death was a sort of Hoax.

This is true, i hope the rumors aren't true about bond dying. SP gunbarrel was best for me, still as much as I like SP gunbarrel, they completely ruined it by that tagline "The dead are alive" and it should have opened like this from the skull.

Couldn't agree more. The 'The Dead Are Alive' tagline is completely unnecessary.
If anything it spoils the 'big reveal' that comes later. Although sadly this was already spoiled by the casting of Waltz and the numerous leaks.
Bond should always open with GB, then straight into the movie.

Yeah, that Tagline never sat well with me, especially as nothing was ever at stake throughout the movie, except maybe the pre-title sequence. Coz I've always felt Marco Sciarra and his goons even sound and look more evil than the whole of SPECTRE we later saw in the film, including Hinx and Blofeld himself....would have been a better film if it maintained the serious nature of its pre-title sequence.

But, Yeah....nice usual Bondian Gunbarrel opening from the iris and proper grading starting from the Gunbarrel as well....But well, Sam Mendes knows best.

Speaking personally, I was at the first press screening for SP in London - which was an amazing experience.

I remember being in the cinema, seeing the GB, the opening line and the tracking shot and being in pure heaven. I was ready to stand up and applaud then. Undeniably the apex of the film (sadly, it did go a little down hill after).

I personally really liked the 'Dead Are Alive' mantra and then the cutting to the Day of the Dead festival. In fact, it's probably the greatest 4 minutes to open a Bond film ever...

Also, this shot from the opening is absolutely my favourite from the entirety of SP. So bloody gorgeous.

I miss the iris opening on the first shot. I’d like to see that in No Time to Die.

There's a theory doing the rounds that the film opens in this manner:

    MGM logo:

    GaseousBlueColt-size_restricted.gif

    Safin at the lake:

    67079f89b38eac356eeb47e1863490b0cf429fd3.gifv

    Then the gunbarrel:

    77f4ed99c5cc5450beb638b9e005d27f.gif

    Then Matera for the PTS:

    tenor.gif?itemid=15722831

I'd prefer the gunbarrel then the hovering shot of Safin walking through the woods as we see in the trailer.

I wonder how long the sequence will be with Safin at the lake if it is to be before the gun barrel

Because it seems the pre-titles drama/action is the longest we have ever had (over 20 + mins), this idea might make sense. A short sequence minus Bond to kick-off, then the GB to introduce Bond. It might help balance out the pacing due to the overall length before actual titles appear.

I think it would make more sense for them to open with the gunbarrel, have the iris open on Norway. Maybe the birds-eye shot from the trailer or something, and then Madeleine is our connection to the Matera sequence, through a cool transition of some kind, and then the titles follow the end of the Matera sequence. Then everything after the title sequence is present-day. I don’t think the gunbarrel should split a sequence unless it’s involved in the scene like Casino Royale.

Yeah, it's possible....because the first scene of NTTD is looking to be the most eerie and intense one yet. So doing the Gunbarrel with the ever upbeat Bond theme, then having it segue into what's definitely going to sound like Zimmer giving Safin a fun, memorable, yet Ethereal theme might not work.

Since the film appears to be having the feel of a Dirge, I'll like the Gunbarrel to be at the end....not because I want it there, I like it at the beginning as much as everyone else....but in order to wash out the potential tragic feel, I feel it needs the Gunbarrel at the end genuinely this time and maybe Zimmer can even play a rendition of YKMN after that just to end Craig's era.

    My thoughts too @matt_u

Also I can’t imagine Fukunaga would’ve done that cool description of the opening gunbarrel in that behind the scenes trailer to then not have it open the film.

It would probably surpass TWINE as the longest PTS if that is the case. But with a rumored 2:43 run time it's just a drop in the ocean.

Yes, kinda works, especially since it would give to the lake scene a dreamy quality, plus the audience would be able to quickly understand who that blonde girl is...

Exactly, plus having everything in “the past” be contained between the gunbarrel and the title sequence makes so much sense.

The Norway sequence in concept alone kinda reminds me of the opening of Rogue One.

Definitely... it has been basically confirmed that this time around the PTS will be 18/20 minutes so yes, a record breaking for the franchise.

I have to say... in their own right, each of Craig's opening sequences has been stunning so far - a glorious collection of mini-films! I kinda enjoy this one-up-manship from CR to QOS to SF to SP and now to NTTD when it comes to the pre-title sequence. Not that all elements of a Bond film need this kind of ballooning in scope, mind you))

This would be from Safins lair, right? But, and I don't know why, the first time I saw this brief scene when he's shooting right at us I thought it would be perfect with that roundish wall as a gun barrel intro to the pre-credits

Cary once said that he is finishing Craig Arc, if there is a scene where bond has to shoot like CR gunbarrel it would be nice nod to CR. But i doubt that's going to happen as we most probably know that bond isn't in that Norway scene.

Yeah @Resurrection you’re right it won’t happen, as cool as it was in Casino Royale, for the very reason you say, but we will get a cool variation on the shot with what @Contraband just posted from the trailer. I guess we’ll finally get to see the person Bond shoots with that technique actually fall haha :)

Exactly, plus having everything in “the past” be contained between the gunbarrel and the title sequence makes so much sense.

The Norway sequence in concept alone kinda reminds me of the opening of Rogue One.

This is precisely what i was thinking...

The problem I have is that the plot will have to jump around a lot. The Norway scenes take place in the 1990s, then Matera is 2015 and the rest in 2020. I think you need to very carefully navigate those changing time periods, otherwise you'd have covered over 20 years in 20 minutes. It's a bit intense.

Hence, why I think the more sombre and moody opening post-MGM logo sets a mood for what is to come. It doesn't have to reveal much. No indication of the setting, the location or characters. It just needs images and score. Essentially, it's a table-setting moment - "We are giving you this morsel now and will explain it later. Just park it for the meanwhile."

Then have a dramatic moment of the young girl stuck under the ice.....cut to black and then go straight into the iconic gunbarrel and the PTS can begin properly.....I like that.

But I've always been a fan of them changing up the GB. I don't really care about it.

@Denbigh that tunnel scene where bond is shooting is most probably in saffin lair not in the opening, even his clothes looks familiar from a tv spot. Cary BTS footage showed Rami was standing in the same tunnel. That shot is most probably from the finale.

Oh I know @Resurrection haha, I just meant we’ll have the traditional gunbarrel, and the nice reference little shot in the lair - so they still got to play around with in some way at least :)

And I can see that thought process @Pierce2Daniel, and it might even happen for sure. I do think the film will leave the Norway sequence as a mystery time-wise, so the audience will only know it’s Madeleine (although they’ll probably guess straight away) when we cut back to Matera, so they don’t really need to telegraph the timeframe in Norway or Matera, and then they can just say five years later after the title sequence - so it shouldn’t feel too complicated in how we’re jumping around in time. It would be too much if they tried to telegraph each time period with a little caption of the year like some modern films tend to do.

And again with Norway and Matera self contained it already covers a lot of ground in terms of narrative structure. I’m intrigued how they’ll use the title sequence to bridge the sequences between Matera and what I’m assuming will be a post-title sequence involving the kidnapping of the scientist and MI6, before we go to Jamaica.

But then again, Cary could very well start with some montage with Bond alone in the tunnel, he turns, shoots at us > Gun barrel.. and then Norway.

There’s so many ways they could do it, even with what we know, and it just makes everything so much more exciting haha :)

Bond is wearing this in two or three scenes which we saw, could be before Norway finale.

The middle picture takes place during the Cuba sequence. Notice the shirt has a collar.

I'd prefer the gunbarrel then the hovering shot of Safin walking through the woods as we see in the trailer.

    +1

I think that that is what we'll get.
