Yes I think you're right about the editing, and I know you can't read too much into it, but as it has a military symbol on it I guess it could well be Bond's personal watch, as it doesn't really make too much sense for a spy to carry something which marks him out as being in the Navy!
Although Roger does wear a Royal Navy tie in LALD :)
The north shore of Jamaica to Santiago is about 270 km (170 miles). That is at least a 5 hour boat ride. If he is making this trip, it's further evidence that he's a badass.
Q is talking about the “plane” Bond needs as previously saw in that Q message video from December.
That is such a great catch @Contraband and @TripAces. Very badass indeed!
Bond. Only Bond.
@Red_Snow
@TripAces Yes sir, he's a badass alright. And clue was Felix line about Paloma. The sailing scene is Santiago de Cuba. The castle is real - Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca/Castillo del Morro, and the white lighthouse on the left is also real. The green island on the right is real.

1) Spectre event mayhem plays out in Santiago, or,
2) Havana. Paloma and Bond takes the bus, taxi or something to get there
After the mayhem, Felix and Bond makes it to the fishing boat in the harbour, and later with Logan Ash attacking them from above.
That's my guess as well.
The Google Earth version:
So did they shoot in Cuba after all?
Maybe just establishing shots by 2nd Unit/choppercam, seaplane pilot, and someone sailing. Can't imagine they had Craig in the yacht
That's not all that weird in a yacht though, is it?

Beats five days to Alaska in a dodgy looking iceberg boat submarine thing 😉
The companion and alcohol surely ensured that trip was more entertaining than it would've seemed otherwise.
By himself? When he could just take a puddle jumper, like he did in CR? Yeah, it kind of is. But it's also very revealing of Bond at this time: he prefers his solitude, even on a small boat, for five hours, with NOTHING around him. I think it's a nice touch by the writers and CJF.
He sailed around the med in a very similar yacht in CR..? It's not that weird, it's kind of what those boats are for! :)
Where was the toilet though? :D Imagine the stink in there after five days!
@mtm Correct. Spirit yachts company supplied EON with a Spirit 54 in CR, and in NTTD the new yacht is called Spirit 46
The scene portraying Daniel Craig and Eva Green cruising into Venice onboard a Spirit 54 is now world famous. Having been handcrafted by Spirit Yachts’ skilled team of boat-builders in Suffolk, the yacht (a 54 foot design named Spirit) was shipped to the Bahamas. From there, Spirit Yachts sailed her to Puerto Rico and through the British Virgin Islands for filming. After shooting scenes in the Caribbean, the yacht was shipped to Croatia and sailed on to Venice. During filming in Venice, the yacht’s rig was taken in and out a total of 10 times to fit under multiple canal bridges. She was the first sailing yacht to go up the Grand Canal in 300 years.
“We are delighted to have been included in the official trailer for the new James Bond film No Time To Die, which continues our relationship with the Bond franchise. We can confirm a Spirit 46 was used during filming earlier this year but we are unable to provide further details at this stage. No Time To Die will be released in the UK in early April and we look forward to seeing the full length film.”
Sailing along the coastline in the Med is a bit different. That's pleasure boating. You're not far from the coast at any time.
Here, Bond has made a choice to go out into open waters, alone, as if it's a stroll in the park. Notice he's just basically wearing what he'd worn earlier, meeting Felix. He doesn't even have a life jacket on. The Caribbean can be savage. So, yeah, it's pretty badass. LOL
People do it all the time...? Sailors.. as Bond is. He does some extreme stuff sometimes, but sailing a sailing boat in a calm sea for a few hours isn't really high up on the list! :D
What I am saying is, who wants to do that???? "Felix wants me to go to Santiago. OK, I'll just hop in my boat here and head on over." It's an odd decision, considering he is alone, with no communications for most of the trip. He could be there in 30 minutes by plane. But it is a decision that says something important about him. Who would want to do something like that? Well, hell: Bond would.
...so either something in those sequences makes him decide to go, which would explain why he takes the boat? Or they just think it'll be a good idea to arrive separately.
Maybe Bond learns from Nomi that MI6 are also investigating, and she wants him to stay out of her way, so (being Bond he decides to help Felix out.
I'm assuming, due to the fact that Bond talks about Nomi at his boathouse in the day that the events go from him meeting Felix at the nightclub, encountering Nomi, Nomi tailing him back to the boathouse to confront him and then the next day him talking to Felix on the phone and sailing out to the SPECTRE party. On the way, he sees the plane overhead, and he then gets to Jamaica and meets Ana who presents him with the suit before the SPECTRE party. They part ways after the SPECTRE agents are gassed and Bond heads off and encounters Nomi trying to ship Valdo out and failing to - he escapes and is only later reencountered at Safin's lair where Nomi flying kicks him.
Bond and Felix go onto the boat that is then attacked by the same plane he sees flying over him earlier. It is bombed by the same plane Bond sees earlier, and only Bond makes it out alive. After this, he returns to MI6 to seek help to finish off the foe who killed Felix.
Boathouse = lagoon villa/beach house near Port Antonio, Jamaica. Meets Felix and Nomi.
Bond meets Paloma (Ana de Armas) in Santiago de Cuba, not Jamaica. Still unclear though if the Spectre event/mayhem takes place in Santiago or Havana since NTTD's production designer once said in an interview that they had to build the Havana set because the cubans had several demands that EON wouldn't accept. Like changing in the script.
After the mayhem in Cuba, Bond meets Nomi again at MI6
We still don't know if it's Logan Ash (Billy Magnussen) in the seaplane, although most likely him. Agent gone rogue, working for Safin. We do know it's Logan in the Land Rover Defender chasing after Bond in the muddy terrain/forrest, and flipping over, exploding.
After the mayhem in the forrest Bond meets up with Nomi again when she comes driving in the Superleggera. It's only after that Bond and Nomi goes after Safin in his bunker.
Fast cut to the Omega.
Very intelligent!
But he’s still a blond
At the end of CR, Bond finds White at the Villa Gaeta on Lake Como. In the PTS of QoS we start with a car chase along the north-eastern shore of Lake Garda, a good 200 km by car. The chase continues through the marble quarries of Carrara, around 340 km south of the tunnels on Lake Garda in which the chase started and where Bond loses the driver's side door of his Aston. Bond finally arrives in Siena, another 180 km south of Carrara.
All in all, we're talking roughly 800 km, 550 of which he did without a door and about 340 of those being a full-on shooting car chase (and this is assuming the use of motorways, which seems unlikely for a chase...).
And nobody cares, because it's a cool car chase. And this will be the same. He will get into the boat, there will be a few Earth Porn shots of him sailing in calm carribean water and then he's in Cuba. And that's it.
Doesn't change the fact that he's a badass...
Yeah I suspect it's mostly just a pretty cinematic way of him arriving, as well as emphasising his new lifestyle and probably also showing that he's getting there vaguely surreptitiously. It works as a surreptitious arrival because people do sail in boats to places- it wouldn't draw much attention because it's not that weird! :)
There might be an extra reason, like he's transporting something, but that's not usually why you get in touch with Bond.
