It would be ironic at this point if it comes out and it sucks after all of this waiting.

Imagine waiting this long for SPECTRE. Yes, the step brother nonsense destroyed the film for me.

    That’s a shame.

That and Bond blowing up the entire HQ with ONE bullet, a snore inducing car chase, a poor ending to a great train fight, mixed intensions with Bond being attacked on the train but welcomed with open arms on his arrival at Blofeld's........etc. etc. not to mention a miserable title song, award or no award. I just hope NTTD does not suck in the same way after all the waiting.

    "Shit"

    X_X

    Terrible

The original script (yes, I read it, I'm a horrible person) had such a better moment there. Hinx didn't say anything, but immediately after he fell off the train, Bond says, "I thought he'd never shut up."

I had less trouble with the line than the exterior shot of the train that showed it was traveling at about two miles a hour at the time. The Orient Express....it was not. I'm just hoping that the new delay for NTTD does not keep them from postponing forward movement on Bond Twenty Six is all.

I hope they aren't 'boxing themselves in' with this November strategy. The last thing we want right now is another embarrassment/postponement. If they plan to release in 2021 - I would announce the film as 'postponed indefinitely', but be ready to go at short notice should conditions improve. For now there isn't too much direct competition and awareness for the film is high. If you plan to release in 2022 it might be better to set a date (late spring onwards) just so you mark your spot in a more crowded market place.

Deadline Hollywood just posted an article about the to be expected delay, and closed off their piece with the following sentence:

"Those outside of MGM who’ve seen the movie say it’s amazing, and well worth the wait."

So that's at least some good news.

It's not official, they're just citing the Variety/Deadline reports and the article even notes that no official announcement has been made yet.

Will give me some time to save up and buy the lovely RGT Wax Canvas Jacket, as seen in the film, ready for premiere day... or do I go in the N Peal Commando Sweater? Decisions decisions...
  • Maybe its been posted already but a cool little look into Daniel's training for NTTD:

Don’t be too surprised once the official announcement hits. I’ve seen this coming since they delayed it this past Fall. The writing’s on the wall (no pun intended).

Won't be out in November either, not at this rate. Not with the mutating, and the idiotic folks who refuse the vaccine, and if the vaccine even works against the mutated strain, and if theaters can even survive another whole year of no new releases.

At this rate we will get the IOI game in 2022 before this movie sees the light of day.

I agree mostly with the bolded. It isn't going to be like nothing ever happened, as far as theatres are concerned, even when everyone is vaccinated.

I got my special super fan DVD copy of NTTD from Eon today. I think it's great that they thought it was only fair that at least the fans should get a chance to see the film under these circumstances.........................................................................................not.

Agreed, this might not be the last delay. The 2022 60th anniversary is probably too tempting, and if there is another flare up in autumn it's a no brainer. Imagine: 60 years of Bond, 25 films, Craig's last hurrah, one big release to celebrate finally overcoming the virus. It will be triumphant in a way only Skyfall was before.

It was inevitable this would be pushed back again. Covid is rampant now in the UK, and we are into another big lockdown that will drag on an on until the vaccination programme is well through most of the population, which may not be until towards the end of the year.

The big question is whether cinemas will survive this to even show it.

Oh that's fun. I guess they might have needed to make a bit more of him not saying anything before that, maybe not.

I would argue that Covid has been rampant in the UK from the very beginning (if it was up to me I would have closed all airports indefinitely but oh well, doors and bolting horses). I'm only 28 myself so most likely most of my friends and I won't be vaccinated until near the end of the year if that.

That is the big question. It's all well and good waiting for people to be vaccinated and the virus to dissipate somewhat before releasing the film so as to bring in as much money as possible, but it's a huge handicap to that goal if a lot of cinemas have closed for good in the meantime. If it has to be delayed again, I would push it back to August at the latest and see what happens nearer the time.
  • This is probably a stupid question, but I have very little understanding of the business end of films and their distribution, and even less understanding about the mechanics of marketing: Why does a continued delay in release cost the studio so much money? People are saying things like "EON is losing money for every week that goes by without a release." I don't doubt that this is true, but I'm just wondering why. If they have a completed movie, my layperson's mind thinks "Whether it comes out tomorrow or in ten years from now, it makes no difference. Everything has been paid for." Pardon my ignorance but what am I missing?

@PDJamesBond They (MGM) borrowed money to finance the film, with interest. The longer it takes to pay back, the more interest paid. It was reported at an additional $1m per month.

In answer to you question @jetsetwilly... no, I don't think they will survive it. I think it's going to be total carnage in Hollywood.

As I predicted to all those hopeful Bond fans in December thinking they'd finally get to see NTTD this April in the cinemas because Joe Biden would be their new POTUS, looks like my own portents were correct about Bond 25 getting pushed back yet again to another November slot. I hate to crow, but you should've listened to me when I told you all to be prepared for another major disappointment.

I know I'm back much sooner than I orginally said I would be. To jog all your memories, I said I'd be back this February when NTTD would inevitably get pushed back again. Looks like I'll have to revise that statement and say I'll be back this November instead.

    Until then... さよなら (sayonara)!!

November is still very optimistic. I'm looking at next spring as the earliest possible date right now, but as 2020 has taught us, that could easily change. You cannot plan for anything anymore.

I don't disagree with you @jetsetwilly. I think you're pessimistically correct in your evaluation. I'm just giving myself a marker for when I will return for more of this nonsense.

They have a real chance of making history here. People all over are fed up with this virus. So here's an idea:

Have a worldwide event sometime soon, with free streaming in a 24 hour period of NTTD. Imagine that: the world coming together like that. And the publicity!

They can always release it in theatres when they open up in 2022/2023/2024.

This would be a nightmare. Imagine the quality of the stream if that many people are trying to access it in a small 24 hour window... a laggy, buggy stream is absolutely not how I want to watch NTTD.

I suppose it would work if they partnered with an established streaming service with the infrastructure to pull it off, but that continues to feel unlikely.

Oh, this isn't suppose to be a solo effort.

I remember when the (western) World could come together either in times of crisis or joy. Live Aid, fall of the Berlin wall, several global happenings before the days of the internets.

But I guess these days it's all about profit. What happened to altruism?

Imagine Apple, HBO, Netflix etc teaming up for one day. Just one day, where everyone are allowed free access to their content, and NTTD was the kicker in that period of time on all platforms.

Is there no one at all with enough weight to pull the right strings to make this happen?
Not to mention nobody would go see it in theatres afterwards.
I would. Especially if 18 months or so pass between the event and the theatre release.

Okay, almost nobody then - especially if you're talking about hosting it on a streaming platform in high quality and then delaying it for 18 months. Do you really think people will not repeatedly, illegally, watch the film in those 18 months? The theatrical release would effectively be redundant. The majority who would have gone to seen it, will have already seen it and the rest simply won't care.

It's a nice thought, admittedly - but it's just not realistic.

    @CraigMooreOHMSS

I don't believe that the majority of people are into piracy and illegal streaming. And saying that it isn't realistic is a real downer. It's not like we are trying to send a man to Mars or something in three years time. The infrastructure is already there. All it takes is a Yes Man, a modern Bob Geldof, who sees possibilities instead of obstacles.
