Could a continuation novelist take on that era for a series of books? Or since it wasn't a time of literary Bond that would be out?

You are right there are a fair number of stories that could occur between QOS and SF.

That’d be cool. It is a shame we didn’t get that middle film between younger and older Bond for Craig.
    Or three films. ;)

I'm not sure. If we've had novelizations in the past I don't see why not. But maybe graphic novels would be more accessible.

Yes, I consider Bloodstone and Goldeneye Reloaded as two adventures that happened between the two movies.

Here’s my controversial opinion of the day:
I think that now that Daniel Craig is done, and since all his movies connect, they should write them into one big novel. They could write it Moonraker style, with each movie being the day of week, in style to MR. An author that could write it would be Bruce Feirstein. He’s had success with writing Bond movies and video games, why not give him a big book to try? He could even put in Bloodstone, as that’s his work as well.

Guy Haines was quickly forgotten amidst speculation on what could be made of Craig Bond missions after QOS but before SF.

This is the UK and Guy Haines went to Eton with the Home Secretary, so he was allowed to retire quietly after spilling (most of) what he knew. After a couple of years grace, a Spectre assassin infiltrated the protection detail. Goodnight, Mr. Haines.

Guy Haines ended up scrunched up in the wastepaper basket along with plenty of other undeveloped characters in Bond film history.

I always wondered why Guy Haines has the same name as the protagonist of Patricia Highsmith's excellent novel Strangers on a Train (Haines is played by Farley Granger in the Hitchcock film adaptation).

There's no connection between the two works. My guess is Paul Haggis (or Purvis & Wade) had just read or seen Strangers and liked the name.

Yes, I remember you (or perhaps someone else?) mentioning that before but I imagine it's a kind of knowing reference not unlike Mr White/The Pale King reference in Spectre, which was the title of an unfinished novel by David Foster Wallace. It seems that the modern screenwriters sometimes get their inspiration from sources other than the original Fleming Bond novels and short stories.

The question of what happened to Guy Haines is by extension in my mind what happened to the rest of Quantum after QOS. Mr. White is the only remaining link after that movie, with the Quantum organization only briefly mentioned and leaving it up to the audience to imagine exactly what happened. I like to think in between QOS and SF Bond went on some missions that resulted in the dismantling of Quantum more and more, which could include Haines being killed or arrested. Bond and MI6 just never learn Quantum is part of Spectre until the SP movie, but at that point, Quantum is so weakened they are an afterthought.
It does make me think that it would've been more fitting if instead of Mr. White dropping out of the organisation because he didn't like Blofeld's methods, if it was that he became a target after Quantum's dismantling with all members of that organisation being wiped out by SPECTRE. Kills two birds with one stone, as opposed to making White somehow sympathetic.

Such a good movie. I hadn't realized the two characters shared a name.

Love how many are being creative and fun often at the same time. One does wonder if they had kept the Mr. White kills Haines, Bond kills White ending. That would have bollocked up SP and then into NTTD has Madeline would need to be worked in a different way.

Has there ever been a deleted scene that had such an impact on two future movies?

In a confusing and unnecessary backstory Quantum had actually created multiple double duplicate doppelgänger physical and namesake versions of Guy Haines.

With Bond entering the picture, Quantum reconsidered and started killing off the lot of them. At times instructing them to kill each other.

Brilliant! Love this one and feel we got some top drawer responses.

Lets move on to another film, we will look at Skyfall!

This gentleman was responsible for putting double-o-7 through his mental paces. He was the guy who uttered the word Skyfall to Bond. This caused our man to say ":done" and leave the room and the word association test.

Yes I am asking whatever happened to Doctor Hall from SF?

A few hours after Bond called M a bitch and abruptly left the word association test, Doctor Hall was summoned to M's office. This conversation ensued:

M: I'd like to start with some simple word associations. Just tell me the first word that pops into your head. For example, if I say "you are", you might say...
    Doctor Hall: Fired.
M: You're good at this. Clear your desk by the end of the day.

Dr. Hall. A failure at psychoanalysis.

What better path than to lean on his teaching credentials, and return to psychology professorship full time? Ea quae non possunt.

After all, he had great success with one promising young student in the past.

About an hour after Bond called M a bitch and abruptly left the word association test, Doctor Hall was sitting in the meal room going over paperwork when Moneypenny walked in. This conversation ensued:

Moneypenny: Excuse me, doctor, I'm looking for Bond. Have you seen him?
    Doctor Hall: John.
Moneypenny: Ah, he's in the toilet? Thanks.
Doctor Hall: No, no, I mean you can call me 'John'.
Moneypenny: Oh, okay, John. So, you haven't seen him around then? It's quite urgent.
Doctor Hall: Yes, he's in the toilet.
    Moneypenny: Goddamn it.

By simply shaving his beard and losing the glasses, Dr. Hall continued his presence at MI6 for an additional 5 weeks before M got wise to him.

Luckily Doctor Hall was able to fall back on the lucrative family business.

    So no financial hardship felt.

Doctor Hall went to Gloucester in a shower of rain. He stepped in a puddle right up to his middle and never went there again.

At least I think that was Doctor Hall...

He found no solace with his American cousins.

The Hall family winery did not drown his sorrows, and just served as a reminder of his failures.

Maybe use of some of the unread books he had on the shelf could have avoided his misfortunes.

Lets move on to another character that didn't have much screen time but he was a part of a car chase. I am talking about "man driving Fiat" from SP.

A lover of Opera the man was seen taking a leisurely drive through Rome at night. His only fault was not letting our man pass him in the alley. The man enjoyed singing to the opera in his car, giving the bird to double-o-7! Last seen having his Fiat deploy it's air bag despite the car hitting a pole at a very slow rate of speed.

I have to ask "whatever happened to man driving a Fiat" from SP?

Man with the Fiat tried to go back to his normal life but almost nobody believed his story of what had happened. The only person who did believe him was his alcoholic neighbor -- who always told fantastic tales of what he had seen on his vacations, like a car driving out of the ocean onto the beach or a gondola driving through St. Mark's Square.
