Was it necessary to open a new thread for this? :-?

Well, why not have a Ghostbusters thread? We've got ones for SW, GOT, DW, Indy...

Ah but I wouldn't mind a separate thread.

But the trailer was already posted, you see... :-?

I enjoyed the trailer. The film looks like it is, at the very least, a decent one. I don't know how good it's going to turn out to be, but it looks reasonably interesting even without showing us anything of the former leads, and that is good.

I quite like the looks of this! Must be the sentimental connection to the originals.

The new trailer has me intrigued, it certainly looks better than the garish film from a few years ago.

I saw the original Ghostbusters at the cinema at Christmas 1984, I absolutely love that movie I got it in 4K a few years back it looks fantastic.

I'll repurpose this as a Ghostbusters thread, lest it be closed. We have an existing place for trailers.

I love Ghostbusters. It's one of my all time favourite movies. Saw it as a kid and was also really into The Real Ghostbusters animated show and toys.
Ghostbusters II I think is a lame sequel - but it's better than that 2016 remake. I've taken at least one of my kids to the re-releases in 2012, 2014 and 2019.
Means a lot to me and I'm very excited about the new one.

Couldn't agree more. The film gets a lot of criticism, but I think it's nearly as good as the first. Vigo in the painting, Janosz wandering the hallway with glowing eyes, the river of slime, especially as seen in the photos being developed.. creepy stuff.

Some fun moments: Ray's double take at the container of bubbling slime in the courtroom, ghost train in the abandoned tube, shaven pets.

I suppose the second film is inferior to the first one, in the sense that it's too much of a retread, but I prefer it to the original. I like the new supporting characters (Janosz, the judge and Hardemeyer -- I even prefer Janosz to Louis as "weird guy in love with Dana") and I feel there is more interplay between the leads, especially Peter and Dana, which I enjoy. The villain is more intimidating, and has more screentime to become that. I also like the music score. Randy Edelman's music is in a totally different style than Elmer Bernstein's, but it works. I feel Edelman is an undervalued composer in general.

Ghostbusters II is decent though the first film is perfect, not a moment is wasted in the original film, very tough act to follow.

I agree, it’s better than most other comedy movie sequels out there.

Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will now hit November 11th (from June 11th).

    Why, what's the irony?

Some of those feel like they're suffering from I-got-to-see-a-new-film excitement hyperbole. The best of the series? Lots of strangely varying accounts of how much nostalgia is in there too. The second review there sounds a bit more tempered and believable.

Aren't these the kind of reliably whorish reviews we always get from online "geek" "critics" granted early screenings? I'm pretty sure every franchise nerd movie gets these.

Exactly; I’m a bit wary of the slightly OTT reaction to the NTTD clip too.

Ugh, you're right. I want to be optimistic about NTTD, so I didn't consider that. With Ghostbusters Afterlife, I'd already seen a trailer that seemed to aggressively miss the point of Ghostbusters, and that was following the quite bad 2016 film. So to paraphrase Peter, Ray, Egon, and Winston, I was ready not to believe them....!

Man this was a dud. A pity because this has real talent behind it. I really liked Mckenna Grace. But this movie doesn’t work.

They should just let go of this franchise forever.

Ghostbusters Afterlife. Enjoyable, but too slow moving in the first half. One thing I’m getting tired of in comeback movies is when a villain that they already faced, and the younger generation has to beat them because they’re the only ones that can do it. Plot is also a rehash of the first one. Decent acting. If you’re looking for nostalgia, or a decent movie to kill 2 hours, you can do worse.

I saw it the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tone was perfect as were the young actors I really enjoyed the score. Across the board it really worked for me; any quibbles are minor.

Developed by Illfonic. I would temper my expectations drastically. They might have improved since Friday The 13th: The Game. But I would be cautious, and be prepared to see the game take two steps forward, one to the side, two back, one to the side, two forward etc...

If anyone is looking for a good Ghostbusters game, I would point them in the direction of Ghostbusters: The Videogame (2009 originally, remastered in 2019). Featured the voice and likenesses of all four principal actors, plus Annie Potts and William Atherton.
