Sean Bean a big Sheffield United fan.

Got manu on the left and gel on the right side of my 32 inch pc screen

United need to be careful v Wolves tough side to break down.

Famke really is stunning in GE, I recall seeing her in Star trek The Next Generation before GE.

    Wolves are playing better atm.
    Now i've got 3 windows, manu,ge,gel

That’s interesting. I wonder how that discussion went.

The tank chase. And the music. Noting the first real use of the Bond Theme.

Martin comments he wasn't happy with the music from the composer, Eric Serra. After pursuing 4 other composers starting with John Barry. With Serra, it couldn't be redone due to schedule and budget.

Specific to the tank chase music, Martin relates as sound it was in the same register as the tanks themselves, it disappeared when played with the action. He says Eric suggested lower the effects as the solution--end of conversation according to Martin.

So Martin approached Eric's assistant with the assignment that over the weekend he engage the Bond theme written to key in on brass and percussion with the full Bond sound. And he did.

Martin likes what he got, and he calls it out as disparate from the rest of the soundtrack. Mentioned a couple times he wasn't happy with the film music otherwise.

Martin takes credit for the tie-straightening at tank chase's end.

Martin calls some of the one-liners real clunkers, but says he can defend them as an homage to the previous films.

Famke says they're required for a Bond film, and fun to play.

Martin says in the later films he misses the humor. Famke agrees, greatly enjoys the humor aspect.

Talk of the satellite collapse as a recent event. 1000 feet across. Footage from a drone taken while it collapsed. (?)

Puerto Rico, difficult finding a clean beach. Paid a hundred people to clean it up for filming.

I agree some of the later films do lack humor and are a chore at times. Basically the Mendes films.

Izabella was annoyed she couldn't have a proper love scene. Not in a Bond film, they say.

Model shots of plane flying over the lake, drawn by a filament across it. Two very fine shots of this.

I recall Xenia's stunt woman in this scene was a contestant on the UK version of Gladiators.

Comments on playing the GoldenEye game, being killed so many times by Xenia.

    Famke apologizes.

That's very interesting stuff, thanks. The stuff about it being in a similar register to the sound effects I hadn't thought about.

The only real shot of the antenna dish, where Brosnan and Scorupco run around the side of it. The rest is model work.

To Famke: would you want to be in another Bond film? Pauses, then says yes. Come back as another character like Joe Don Baker? Maybe, but no Muffy tattoo on buttock she says.

Discussion of reordering the existing films to be one character and timeline. Must ignore a bunch, gets silly, but there is some sense to be made of it.

Discussion of GoldenEye game, the scene inspiring the escort portion. The difficulty, how many players got killed.

Did Martin play? No. He doesn't play. Acknowledges the success of it.

Martin comments on how well Brosnan sells the action. Reaction being more important than action many times.

Martin recalls the From Russia With Love fight in the train between 007 and Grant, as inspiring the final fight. And the idea the character beat the hell out of each other. And there's always a trap door in a Bond film he says.

Set was on a 45 degree angle, would have been impossible vertically.

Problem with censors toward the end, censors wouldn't allow headbutts. (Famke protests--why was the head butt to her head then allowed?)

Limits on blood shown for Bean's death, censors.

Leap to the helicopter--Simon Crane missed. Complications with matching sun and other conditions as well.

Joe Don Baker getting the last line, instead of Bond.

Martin comments on the cheesy end song, then says he'll stop commenting on it.
