Prime and Netflix are pretty interchangeable for me. I've never really found an original film/show from either streaming service that grabbed me. I recently watched the first episodes of THE BOYS and THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT and I honestly do not understand the hype those shows get. It's like if anything is branded a Netflix/Prime Original they instantly become buzzworthy. Throw a Netflix logo on an actual turd and people will call it a masterpiece.

If you're a big movie lover/fan, Netflix sucks. Amazon Prime is much, much better for the cinephile.

BFI Player and Mubi have a lot of good stuff.

My problem is simply other people telling me I really just must watch a particular film / show / ten-season-series, but I do not have enough time in my life to follow up on every recommendation. So I have never bothered to join up for streaming.

Friends around me IRL sometimes seem annoyed that I’ve never watched a particular show that they love.

They seem to think that I have oodles of unallocated free time, that I spend my days just staring at the crack in the wallpaper for hours on end.

But I have a full time job, and my free time is already allocated, between family time and dvds and books and video games and motorbike trips and the musical instrument I am learning to play, and I already do not have enough time for all these things I love to do.

I'd have gotten rid of Netflix a long time ago if it wasn't for the documentaries. Though most Netflix original films are pretty much written off unless they're from an established name, in fairness.

Definitely not the vibe I've gotten at all, as there are lots of turds and duds that both companies put out, that are despised and trashed by essentially everyone who sees them. Netflix puts out more bad than good at times, I'd say.
  • I've found loads of good films on both Netflix and Prime, including many international films and festival hits. It does take some manual digging though, as the algorithms just spew whatever is trending and based on the user's watching history.

    Get both.

Only true movie fans will get all streaming services. ;)

I'm basically ashamed to admit we have Netflix, Prime, Crave+HBO, Disney+, and AppleTV+. Crave+HBO came with my internet service, though, and AppleTV+ came with my phone. And we've had Prime for awhile. /embarrassed

If I didn't have the free ones, we'd probably get rid of Prime, but that's it. Crave+HBO is great, and I want to keep Disney for future Star Wars content, and Apple for their 1st party content as well.

To make this clear, I don't say Netflix is crap, I just like to watch my movies for the first time on a big movie screen, tzhat's all. And I will wait for NTTD and watch it in the movie theatre. Of course I will purchase the DVD, when it comes out, and will watch it repeatedly. It's just this "first time" thing.. And AVATAR was impressive in 3D in the movie theatre, without 3D it's quite boring. And silly.

That's very reasonable and I agree! I'm the same. The cinema experience gets a bad rap, even on these boards, but it remains undefeated as far as I'm concerned. Even if I had the biggest TV/Projector Screen imaginable, it wouldn't have come close to the atmosphere of my first time watches of Casino Royale or Skyfall with 300-400 other excited people.

The best decision right now would be to wait 2-3 more weeks and then if necessary, delay it to May. Then wait one more month and if necessary, delay it to June. Delaying it another 6 months right away would be completely unnecessary.

    I don't think that's how it works.
  • Warner Bros. essentially did that with Tenet.

Something like that might’ve only been possible in Tenet’s situation, as there was next to no major competition against the movie during that time. I don’t think moving NTTD week by week would be feasible when looking at other slated releases.

They should release it on line in monthly instalments to build to a fascinating
    collectors edition ;)

If NTTD is moving then that will have a knock on effect ( For better or worse ) for other movies.FF9 will probably move if universal are moving Bond as they are distributing both. There are rumours of Black Widow moving to Disney+ as they cannot delay that movie any longer as it ties into events in The falcon and Winter Soldier tv show.

Basically all big budget blockbusters will have to probably depart release dates for the first two thirds of this year at least.

Hypothetically, if WB were the studio to buy MGM, there'd likely be a few excited board members here.

I've been unhappy with MGM for years, but this would be true of almost every studio - all seem fundamentally flawed in some way.

If we look at the way WB are handling the DC franchise (poor) and the fact they didn't talk to filmmakers about moving to streaming before announcing it - "excited" isn't the word I'd use. WB has some serious issues right now! That said - they might be one of the better choices even so - I shudder to think how bland Disney might make the Bond franchise.

Oh, creatively, I'd be worried for sure. I only meant in the sense that NTTD would be with a studio that seemingly has no problem taking a loss on a flagship blockbuster, and one that is also home to Christopher Nolan.

I was just thinking out loud - it's not going to happen. I don't know what is happening at MGM, but with the way things are I'd be very surprised if anyone bought it anytime soon.

Reading a lot of interesting things about the Godzilla vs Kong announcement. It seems that it's a very complicated scenario, considering there's two studios involved in the film's production and the one who invested the most stands to make the least.

MGM is a relic living off its former glories. The sooner the bond franchise goes elsewhere the better

Well, in that case MGM must sell it's shares it has in EON. But please not Disney.

MGM is a problem because they are perpetually cash-poor. That's not the case with Disney, Universal, or WB.

I'd calculate, on balance, that most of the delays in the series have come from MGM, not Eon, starting with the long 1989-1995 stretch.

I wouldn’t worry about WB due to their handling of DC films. EON would still be handling Bond creatively.

WB have had a few misteps, but overall i think they handle their DC movies pretty well.In the last few years they have had great success with Aquaman,Shazam, and Joker.

James Bond Magisnet is reporting no final decision has been made to delay the film. Is this just a last ditch effort to drive the price in hopes a Streamer will pay or are they truly considering what can only be a stunted release in March/April?

Not unexpected. "I’ll see it…when I see it" has been my motto for some time now.

Interestingly, the Chelsea Cinepolis on West 23rd street here in Manhattan (NYC) still has their “Coming Soon” NTTD poster on outside of the theater. January 2020……good times!!
  • Delay was fully expected but at least we now have a new date.
