Literary007.com has a review of the book with pictures. It is a fun to read cultural history of Fleming's Bond. A fun book, highly enjoyable to flip through or to read in its entirety. Because so much has been published on the movies, it has one chapter on how Fleming reflected on the first two films. In fact, the book whets the appetite for picking up a Bond novel again.

I've never read any bond novels and i am not really interested in reading any novels.

I prefer reading or watching documentaries etc about the movies.

The 007 bus line being the inspiration for Ian Fleming has to be a made-up story invented by the PR department of National express. It surfaced in November 2015 on their web page and starts with "It is rumoured that...". No references are given, so one has to suspect this was wishful thinking at best.

Ben Macintyre, a columnist for The Times, wrote back in 2008 that 007 derives from a German WW I document, number 0075, whose code was cracked and which caused the US to enter the war. From then on the 007-prefix stood for the highest British Intelligence achievement. In any case, that idea also seems derived, but it would make sense that "00" has some meaning in intelligence circles.

    (update)
I just rechecked what Henry Chancellor dug out for his book "James Bond - The Man And His World" - highly recommended, by the way - on page190. Fleming said in an interview that the Navy was responsible, since during the war all the top secret signals had the double-0 prefix. 0070 (not 0075) was the secret code of above mentioned Zimmerman Telegram in WW I and founded the prefix habit. Fleming memorized that for future use and it stuck.

That sounds a bit more like it; of course it doesn't really need to have been inspired by anything- it's just three numbers! :)

Quite surprising he would have referenced anything like that, you'd have thought the official secrets act would have been slightly concerning, but I guess it was so disconnected to its real use it didn't really matter.

@mtm. Sad, but expected - especially given the prior damage.

Yes I think they were just waiting for it to happen really. Looks like the tops of the towers have even sheared off- must've been quite spectacular.

Alec Trevelyan was quoted as saying he was "crushed" when he heard the news.

Hey everyone! I'm surprised, unless I missed something, that no one is talking about this:

GoldenEye watch along with Martin Campbell and Famke Janssen.

A few points I found interesting:
-Campbell is not a fan of Serra's score. Said they got turned down by four composers including Barry. He went with Serra because of The Professional. He pushed for the Bond theme during the tank chase even though Serra was initially opposed.
-You can tell Campbell is not a fan of the "it's what keeps me aliiive" scene either. He thinks it's OTT. The scenery, the lines, etc.
-They had a 58 million budget.
-Both Campbell and Famke say there was a lot of pressure on the movie after the six year hiatus.
-Campbell says Xenia is one of the best Bond women.
-Famke's stuntman crashed the Ferrari and it cost the studio 80K.
-Famke had the idea to use the cigar as a prop during Casino scene.
-Famke got a broken rib from the sauna fight with Pierce.
-Every costume Xenia wore was created specifically for Famke's fit.
-Some were asking about a rumor that Xenia was originally going to survive the film and producers didn't allow it, but Campbell says it's rubbish, even though it would've been nice for her to come back.

Did MC happen to either confirm or deny that he is the lead cyclist who falls over during the opening car chase?

He's definitely not though, because he has a different face! :)

Definitely not the lead cyclist. I believe it's Campbell to the right in the white beanie and white top, and then when they fall over, he is left standing in the middle with his hand in the air, but now he's wearing a black baseball cap (though with the same white top as earlier).

Famed Arecibo Observatory suffers more damage as 900-ton platform falls

    https://www.cnet.com/news/famed-arecibo-observatory-suffers-more-damage-as-900-ton-platform-falls/

How come no one has talked about this here? They even caught some footage of the destruction.

The destruction of the dish is in the thread title. This exact video was posted half a page up, in December 2020.
